That's it for today! Tomorrow we finish Guys.

Nobody feels engaged, don't worry. At this point Dave is writing purely for himself.

Thanks, OP.

Well I actually liked this quite a bit.

After what everyone was saying I expected this arc to be shit.

It’s more positive than I expected too. Cerebus actually seems to have succeeded at getting a friend group. He’s actually learned a lesson and it stuck. That’s pretty huge for him.

Also, this is the funniest the comic has been in a pretty long while.

It’s not the grandiose epic stuff we had before but honestly I dont get the hate. Im surprised people here aren’t engaged with this arc when most seemed pretty positive towards Melmoth. This is way more relevant than anything in that was.

It's hard to separate Guys from Rick's Story. They sort of meld together. And Rick's Story is the gospel of WOMEN BAD.

Just noticed he had the Veitch character using the Doctor Blasphemy suit from Brat Pack.
I'm usually bad at getting all these little details Dave Sim throws in, so it's nice to get the reference for once.

It's a bore.

bump

Just read through all this.
To be honest, this whole thing felt like filler. Not the interesting filler that takes time to explore world or build character even if it's not progressing the story, but the boring sort of filler that just pads and drags things out and wastes time. These ten issues could've been condensed into half as much and would've been better off for it, a lot of the stuff that happens here is just pointless faffing about. It's not interesting or engaging, it's just there.
These issues were also not really funny. I had read that the humor returns, but there were maybe a handful of jokes that got a few chuckles and only one that had me outright laughing (in the last issue, which also happens to be the one I enjoyed the most.) High Society and Church and State had at least one great joke in every issue. All that wit has now been replaced with crude and crass jokes that only work in the bars they came from.
The artwork is still top-tier for the most part but Sim's work is starting to become, in a way, disorganized. There are parts that are hard to follow, usually involving the speech, and some of the caricatures are so exaggerated they become grotesque. Gerhard's work remains astonishing.
I'm disappointed. It's not shit, but it's a noticable step down from the previous arcs. As far as I know, it's all downhill from here.
>when most seemed pretty positive towards Melmoth.
Melmoth was engaging. It was a beautifully illustrated and touching recount of a man's final days and the turmoil of those who cared for him. Between that story, we had the main plot of Cerebus getting out of his funk and more on the situation of the world around him.
Guys isn't engaging. It's not touching. It's boring, padded out, mostly aimless filler that could've said everything it needed to say in half the length.

>There are parts that are hard to follow, usually involving the speech
Agree with this point a lot. Some parts I wondered if it was intentional like when they’re REALLY drunk. But some of these I had to look at them too long to understand, or in some cases even gave up on trying to.

Guys is my favorite part of Cerebus. Wish I had friends.

Bump

Said it last thread, but Rick's Story is even worse about this. It's beautiful artistry that's entirely ineffective with a few exceptions. You can't make every page a gimmick, otherwise your gimmicks lose impact.
>As far as I know, it's all downhill from here.
There's actually an upswing in Going Home, but that's it. Latter Days is horrible, the last good thing you'll see is Cerebus's (very long) death.

>There's actually an upswing in Going Home, but that's it. Latter Days is horrible
The biggest upswing is in Latter Days... but it only lasts 2 issues.

Depends on what you enjoy more I guess.
282 is legendarily shitty, though.

>There's actually an upswing in Going Home, but that's it. Latter Days is horrible, the last good thing you'll see is Cerebus's (very long) death.
I promised myself that I'll finally finish Cerebus this time but this is hardly encouraging. I'll do it because I want to be able to say I finished one of my favorite comics, but seeing something you loved so much fall so far is sad.

Most of Latter Days is pure text as Dave rambles about theology.
Have fun. It's a loooooong read.

That's not entirely correct. The first half is still more comic than ramble and covers other stuff too.
