CEREBUS STORYTIME: Part 20

Why?

The lettering and visuals are amazing in a vacuum.
The actual story itself is choked by the presentation. Simple ideas and story beats are so drawn out and adorned with complex imagery and beautiful rendering and chaotic lettering to the point that it fails to be as effective as just telling the story in a simple fashion. I'm not keen on a big chunk of Cerebus because of things like this, but Rick's Story is really awful about it.

I also just don't care for the story itself and Dave's strange condemnation of every single character but Rick in the final issue.

These pages here are among some of the best art work you will ever see in comics. Just everything about it hits the right notes.

Nothing wrong with making shit up as you go along, as long as it doesn't retcon, and make worse, what came before.

Didn't Sim once say that Rick was the only genuinely "good" character in the story?

Yeah, and it's pretty dumb.
