How are you supposed to care about the characters from the New 52 when they've lost decades of history, and some of them, like Batman, have become caricatures of themselves?
How are you supposed to care about the characters from the New 52 when they've lost decades of history...
Doesn't matter, most of that was undone.
What with all this new 52 bitching today? New 52 universe don't even exist anymore, basically all post crisis events are canon now.
Same way you are supposed to care about the characters from the Post-Crisis, when they've lost decades of history, and some of them, like Batman, have become caricatures of themselves. And it doesn't matter, because of most that was undone.
>Most of that was undone
Convergence didn't really do anything. What did you think undid a complete reboot? Wally doesn't even have his kids.
>All post-crisis events are canon
Right, but that's not the issue. Some characters just straight up don't exist anymore.
>Convergence didn't really do anything. What did you think undid a complete reboot? Wally doesn't even have his kids.
I said "most" and that's what I mean. You're just hung up on something that happened in the past. So you're not complaining about New 52 but specific characters being different from before 2011. So just spit it out and stop being a bitch.
Don't you mean for Batman has become a cuck?
Yikes, I never realised Didio managed to get on Yea Forums. Don't we have measures in place for that? Entire stories just don't exist anymore.
>You're just hung up on something that happened in the past.
I'm complaining that rebooting an entire Universe so you can get some short sales to absolute brainlets who think comics are icky was a bad idea. I know you felt special being targeted, but even the higher-ups thought it was a mistake, and they've tried to soothe the steaming shit that the New 52 was.
He HAS become a cuck, user.
The universe being rewritten is part of the ongoing overarching story, nothing was lost.
How can anyone defend this?
what are you attacking? seems fine to me
>Every Batman story ever takes place within six years.
>A new Robin every year
>Frank Millers Year One isn't canon anymore due to Snyder doing his own nuCanon.
Good God.
You don't. The floppies aimed for new readers at the expense of old readers like you. Ignore the new stuff, fill out your back catalogue and move on.
don't read stories for continuity
writers and editors gave up on respecting what's been previously established
It's annoying because the best stories are just those that were already happening pre-reboot like Aquaman, Batman Inc, Batman and Robin, Batwoman, etc. Like Damian got some great development, but it could've just continued on from V1 where Tomasi was writing him already.
>caring about the big 2 anymore
>caring about DC specifically
That is because they were compatible with the continuity you grew attached to, creating an illusion of progression. As said, current shit doesn't give a damn about continuity, especially after Bendis came.
I actually like what the Nu52 did with Lucius Fox’s family, but the time fuckery wasn’t worth it.
But they DO give a fuck about continuity, which is why they've been pushing it over the past few years with weird shit like Convergence.
They give a damn about editorially mandated status quo. A few care about continuity enough to justify changes and contradictions with reality
warping events and retcons but most of the current writers just see continuity as a weight around their necks to be ignored and handwaved whenever they feel like.
>he cares about continuity in comics
>fill out your back catalogue
My doctor strongly advised I stop doing that. Because of the bleeding
is this the Cassiopeia Quinn artist? he does a bunch of bondage rubber suit stuff as well, right?
>What with all this new 52 bitching today?
>today
There has been constant Nu52 bitching since Flashpoint. And there should be, this new shitty universe is inferior to the one they tossed in the trash.
>How are you supposed to care about the characters from the New 52 when they've lost decades of history, and some of them, like Batman, have become caricatures of themselves?
You can't really. Well I sure as fuck can't. It used to be in the start that I could tell myself "they'll fix him, they'll fix her, they'll fix everyone" but the more shit went wrong the less I believed that. Rebirth hype revived my faith for a little while, but then Rebirth got shot down too so really there's just nothing left. The whole Nu52 universe is a travesty and I've written all DC comics off until they do the next massive reboot.
It's not even about continuity as such, not in the strict chronological sense anyway. Rather, I just don't want the new comics to directly contradict what I know about these characters from the past. I don't want the comic to tell me that my mental model of them, grown over decades, is false now.
The irony is that like half of the things Didio/Harras team does have that same motivation, but they just come from a different generation so from my perspective they're destroying everything I loved while trying to make things more like THEY remember them.
What pisses me off the most is that they are aware that whatever the New 52 set out to create wasn't as good or as popular as what came before, so they always try to make allusions or straight up reference the past iconic comics or character incarnations, despite having no intent of returning any of what. They lean back on what works, but refuse to actually truly bring it back. It's just so irritating.
Reminder that THE NEW 52 ruined:
>The DCEU movies with their attempts to implement the things from the rebooted comics
>The Warner Bros animation department with their attempt to build a shared animated universe by adapting the rebooted comics
>The comics themselves since the reboot was a failure
So pretty much everything.
It was a shit job, rushed and half-assed. It's clear in retrospect they had no plan and just pressed a panic button because some Warner higher-up chewed them out and told them to raise their sales or switch jobs. They should have used the Rebirth as the excuse to return to the original universe, maybe keeping one or two most popular things from Nu52 (whatever they are) at most. But they let that chance pass by and now I'm not sure what they can do other than just blow it all up again.
Their little attempt to "REBIRTH" the DC Animated Movie Universe by trying to adapt the classic comic story-lines like 'The Death and Return of Superman', 'Hush', 'Judas Contract', and so on, as well bringing back some of the classic costumes is so laughable to me. Specially because they try to keep the same shared animated universe as a setting and constantly make references to the past movies, despite knowing the whole thing ended up being a failure otherwise they wouldn't be doing this. It's like... what are they trying to do here? Save the shitty animated universe by mangling the iconic story-lines for the setting? Such a half-assed attempt.
>Reintroduce a Batman Beyond comic after Future's End
>Have Tim Drake hijack the story and steal Terry's place
>People hate the semi-not-not-really post apocalyptic atmosphere and Tim Drake so they retcon those aspects out several issues later
>They don't even have the balls to commit to the bit of having Tim as the lead protagonist and have him get Thanos snapped out of the timeline
I don't know what to believe, that DC wanted people to hate Tim Drake or was delusional enough to think retooling Batman Beyond as a Tim Drake-centric setting was a good idea
>Jason Todd becomes Robin but is quickly benched
Why even mention him then
I was baffled by the whole thing as well. People got slightly excited because it meant seeing Batman Beyond happening in the mainline comics, which means Terry. Nobody wants to see another character in the goddamn role. What the fuck were they thinking? And they turn the future setting into some technologic post-apocalyptic nightmare instead of something more close to the cartoon setting. So it is Batman Beyond, but not. Who wants that? Seriously, what were they thinking?
Why is it exclusively retards who get to take cracks at beyond?
Who the hell would actually rank the nu52 above post-crisis and rebirth?
>Fuck we forgot about Damian
>Uhhh... accelerated cloning... Sure why not.
Holy compressed timeline Batman!
