I want to read Powers of X/House of X, but I haven't read X Men in a long time. How did Professor Xavier come back to life, I thought he was dead?
What do I need to know to go into those runs?

You don't need to know anything and can jump in. It's actually better this way than listening to bits and pieces of the last several years that might only confuse you.
It's at least partially inspired by Morrison, Bendis, Carey, and Giant Size, as well as Inferno and Asgardian Wars if you want to do deep background dive. But really the past couple to few years does not matter at all.
>How did Professor Xavier come back to life
Long contrived arc involving the Shadow King. The details don't really matter.
>What do I need to know to go into those runs?
Nothing. It's meant to be a jumping on point for new/returning readers, starts in media res, and takes place after a timeskip between this and the last run to further distance this from what came before.
As long as you know who the major players are like Xavier, Magneto, Apocalypse, Moira MacTaggert and most of the big-name X-Men, you don't really need to know anything.
Just start with HoX/PoX. Fuck everything else from the previous decade. Shit worth reading is few and far between. This is the setup for a little era so just start there.
Why is his body language so femme? He looks like David Bowie
Casandra nova is in there.
He has Fantomex body (assuming it's X), pretending to be French I guess
Don't see why he wouldn't have transferred to his own body by now. We already know they've got a warehouse full of Xavier bodies since that's what Proteus is using as his host bodies.
That's a good point, when is frenchie coming back? He's not going to be in the current X-Force line up sadly.
Makerxavier is creeping me out.
Whenever I see this panel I feel like Charles is about to break into dance.
>body language
He's not trying to communicate something with his body. He's constantly copying over new versions of every mutant's mind through Cerebro so he can help bring everyone back to life whenever they die. His hands and head are engaged in some virtual console where he's doing this work.
100% intentional to fuck with you, the entire series is creepy as fuck IMO
So the mutants are exact copies, right? Not the original, who stays dead?
Does that mean they could "clone" a mutant and generate, say, ten identical cyclops who all exist at once?
They could, but they don't want duplicates running around and have rules in place to prevent it.
I mean "don't want" is not the same as "can't", as far as future plot points go.
So, x-men version clone saga is possible without a multiverse collapse.
he may have already for all we know
This. There are scenes that are very unnerving and that's the point. I'm digging that sort of thing that makes you feel weird about them.
If someone replaced the genes of a bunch of dead mutants with a single ones it would be possible for a clone outbreak to sneak into their system.
There's also the plot thread for different minds being put on the wrong clone bodies.
Why is Cyke such a doormat in this? Where is his fire, his zeal? You'd think he'd be into taking a more active role in Xavier's magical realm kool aid gangbang, but it seems he is stuck in some permanent tranquil daze.
Phantom X is keeping him in a psychic daze so he doesn't start fights over the ethics of what X is doing
Did you miss the scene with the Fantastic Four?
He’s not leader of a nation anymore. Hickman’s just writing him as he thinks he should be written, which is the biggest believer in Xavier’s dream.
when a powerful psychic dies, they tend to stay in the astral plane as ghosts for a very long time
boss shadow found Xavier's ghost and was tormenting him by making him play a rigged game with the x-men as the pieces, taking turns to subtly manipulate people in a covert proxy war.
but the second lord umbra got distracted enough, proffex escaped and posessed the body of fantomex
How are Scott and Jean doing? I heard both were back, but I hadn't heard if they, uh, ever talked about that whole "how many times have either of us been dead or had timetraveller alternatives" talk.
he's presenting his dick to the naked Jean who just crawled up to him
Nor am I saying he should be acting like a leader of a nation. However the lack of any initiative whatsoever is not like him. He passively goes from event to event and shows basically zero emotion. Even Emma is showing more individuality here.
Again, he was definitely not passive in that scene with the F4. Nor when he swore to Xavier they'd get the mission done.
Cyclops acting super-reserved and seeming almost emotionless is how he was written for years.
