Also I can't help but wonder what could make 186 infamous considering where this comic has already gone. Genre shift after genre shift, physical-narrative breakdowns, political and religious criticisms, hell even a sort of MEDIA shift with all the text pages, and in this last issue we find out the main character is a hermaphrodite.

It's because the main story is pretty much drawing to a close. Beyond #200 is more or less a 100 issue epilogue. Most of the characters we've seen up until this point are never going to show up again.

I'm sorry I thought this was a comic book, not a novel.

As someone who finished reading Cerebus yesterday, there's nothing that crazy about what Sim says in the next few issues, if you're not a newfag then you've seen most of what he says repeated on this very website. The only way you could find what he says soon batshit crazy is if you're a tumblrite that can't handle anything resembling misogyny. Although I guess for the time this was written it was probably a lot more provocative.

The part where Sim really lost me is in Latter Days when he starts going off the deep end about religion and the comic just turns completely into a commentary on the Torah.

Consider also the Cerebus had a lot of feminist themes, actually strong and complex female characters, and a large female audience.
And it's not even that that sealed Cerebus' fate, it's the continued dismantling of everything people liked about the comic and Sim doubled down on the changes and actively pushed people out of his life. Gerhard terminated his relationship with Sim because he became that hard to deal with.

I never felt he did, Jaka was the reasonable party in her relationship with Cerebus and was willing to put up with a ton of shit from him just for his sake.

How? All the groundwork is there when she actually get some fleshing out in Jaka's story. Before that we (and Cerebus) know fuck all about her personality outside being one of the few people who actually likes Cerebus.
