I mean, Wilson literally pointed this out in a tie-in issue with Civil War II in which Ms. Marvel finally pulls off a Mr. Fantastic-like move for the very first time. Kamala herself points out in that moment that she's getting better with her powers.

Feel like it's deliberate and if not, then I like it regardless since it gives Kamala another sense of progression as a character.
