I read all of Renew Your Vows years ago. It was decent, but nothing I haven't read before. I am specifically referring to the current ASM run, Life Story, and this Abrams series. I'll be honest, I'm kind of burned out on the Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson love story and OTP narrative. She's just not an interesting character individually and doesn't have much to offer in terms of new storytelling and plot lines.

Then Alex Ross (or rather, whoever ran the Alex Ross social media accounts) posted an image Ross did of Spider-Man and Mary Jane from one of the movies that had the hashtag #spider-man4 or #spiderman4 or whatever, and then quickly deleted it. THAT was what got a lot of people to think the countdown was for an adaptation of Raimi's Spider-Man 4.

It's a real problem when either of those options made the news of JJ Abrams (and his son) doing Spider-Man look like a big disappointment. Then again, anyone who is a Spider-Man fan and a longtime Trek/Wars fan that didn't like Abrams' takes on the franchises, would've been disappointed in the news anyway.

Not unless they were collaborating with Sony. And up to that point, people were thinking Disney and Sony were willing to play along for a while, not knowing about how negotiations broke down.
