Why do Batman and Superman's rogues galleries have so many parallels? Joker = Green Goblin Man-Bat = Lizard Catwoman = Black Cat Clayface = Chameleon, Sandman Two-Face = Mr. Negative Riddler = Mysterio
Is this just sheer coincidence? I know some things are probably deliberate, especially between DC and Marvel, but many of these don't really feel like they were on purpose. Is it just that when two vigilante superhero comics go on long enough, shit like this is just gonna be plain inevitable?
I don't give a fuck, batman so mehhhhh. Mister perfect best detective of the world is not for me.. Plus Norman's a fucking nightmare..
Leo Watson
Because their comparisons are very superficial and those vague archetypes are found in many rogues galleries. Joker and Goblin only have the fact they're crazy assholes in common but of completely different cloths. Man-bat and Lizard are your typical animal man hybrids which are EVERYWHERE, he's not even the only one in either's rogues Cat burglar is literally older than either character. Two-face and Mr. Negative have nothing in common unless you reach to say Mr. Negative's negativity powers are binary which Two-face is obsessed with. Mysterio and Riddler are just tricky fucks but not really close.

Someone finally said it.
Lucas Collins
Parallels can be hugely tangential and I think that's the case here.
The only tough case is Black Cat and Catwoman. I think the main difference is that Catwoman is very mature and Black Cat is still growing.
Asher Johnson
>Joker and Goblin only have the fact they're crazy assholes in common but of completely different cloths. They are far more similar than that, specially before he was shown to be Norman
Oliver Anderson
Green Goblin is nothing like the Joker. For one, he has a secret identity. And a family. And goals outside of "ruin peter parker's life and do shit for the lulz". And he's competent.
Catwoman is the ripoff of Black Cat. The original Catwoman was cheesy as fuck, and it wasn't until Black Cat showed up that they put her into a bodysuit.
All of these are just huge reaches and arbitrary. It's not a coincidence. It's you seeing a pattern where without realizing that "superheroes and supervillains share some tropes".
Catwoman was already famous for wearing a bodysuit at Adam West series before Black Cat cameo.
So yeah, Black Cat is still a Catwoman rip off.
Austin Rivera
Holy fuck I hate this comic so much, it retcon the only good DBZ movie.
Anthony Howard
The worst part is that the comic wasn't even necessary. Toriyama just made it to retcon everything he himself set up in his manga and then doubled down on it in the Broly movie.
Grayson Richardson
Man-bat came after Lizard. Clayface came after Chameleon and Sandman. Riddler has nothing to do with Mysterio. Black Cat is a shameless copy. Joker x Green Goblin is debatable.
Robert Hall
>and it wasn't until Black Cat showed up that they put her into a bodysuit. She was in a bodysuit right after the Adam West series, although it was green for some reason.
Andrew Ramirez
Indeed. I hope he fired his editor for this blunder.

anyone else hate how the Super movie turned out? it somehow made Broly overpowered and underwhelming at the same time. OG Broly is weaker but he wrecked the saiyans and piccolo without even breaking a sweat. Super Broly is stronger but never really put a beatdown on goku, vegeta and frieza (comedy doesn't count).
Luis Ortiz
The part where he couldn't even touch the angel guy took away any tension from the movie.

It seems that they won't be using Broly for a while and expect him to get nerfed when he does make a return. You can't just make someone as strong as a fusion character that gets stronger at an extremely fast rate. That's like making Jiren a regular cast member. As for the movie I think it's overrated. It's not bad or amazing, just another Dragon Ball movie.
Jackson Torres
This.
I am surprised new comic characters are still being introduced for this reason.
>first Captain Marvel was going to be Marvel's answer to Wonder Woman >now she's just a knockoff Superman God, what a shit character.
Alexander Williams
It's even better when you realize it was a preemptive retcon to the character for the movie when the movie didn't even go in that direction for her origin. It's the Rhodey death all over again.
Liam Mitchell
Well don't we all remember when Superman went one-on-one with Black Cat?
Parker Jones
>it was a preemptive retcon to the character for the movie when the movie didn't even go in that direction for her origin Didn't they have to change her original origin in the movie so that it was a total Green Lantern ripoff?
She doesn't look like Selina. She has little in common with Selina except that they're both cat burglars, and they would both eventually dress like Emma Peel.
Gohan doesn't find Goku as a baby anymore, but rather as a child. I cant recall if that was in the manga or was just in a boat load of material outside the manga.
Levi Cox
Someone finally said it. Thank fuck
Benjamin Powell
This actually is kind of original. The parallels to Superman are probably more incidental than on purpose, since the name was inspired by Mar-Vell.
Or maybe they just wanted to give Steve Carell a shoutout, that’s possible too.
Cameron Murphy
>vegeta is no longer stashed on frieza's ship with just nappa and raditz somewhere else >goku is a little bit older and not immediately savage and has armor with him that's never seen again >bardock's whole character is rewritten and the saiyans are shown as more intelligent and normal as opposed to their more brutish and violent past versions shown in the manga and anime Toriyama napalmed the very foundation of the saiyan race and the start of Dragonball. Kid Raditz is fucking cute.
