Genuinely hope the season opens with the Gelfling's Front of Thra or whatever storming the Castle of the Crystal. They make it across the bridge and through the gates and make it all the way to the Crystal Chamber without any sign of the Skeksis. For a moment they wonder if the Skeksis gave up and fled rather than fight them.
Then they hear scuttling from the dark and the Garthim emerge from all sides and proceed to just absolutely wipe them the fuck out and force the survivors to retreat.

there doesn't seem to be anywhere unique the story could go once the crystal is healed. Only idea I could come up with is the skeksis and mystics who never made it to the great conjunction need to be reunited, but that's just a retread of the first plot.

I /think/ Jen and Kira used the crystal to go to the UrSkeks homeworld in Power but I never read that for myself.
What would these Gelflings do on another world? I don't fuckin know. But it at least avoids undoing the newfound peace of the clans, relying on UrSkeks (Assuming they visited a world other than theirs), and most importantly avoids dumb fireling bullshit.
We could also meet other sentient dominant species that aren't Gelflings and meet another planet-avatar like Aughra, both with their own quirks, personalities, and abilities like dreamfasting that set them apart from others.
I know it's shit and it kinda defeats the point of how quaint Thra is as a planet and contained setting, but that's the route I'd take.

Do we know that much about Urskek society? Maybe some hostile Urskeks showing up would be an idea. Maybe they're bounty hunters looking for the ones who cracked the crystal, because their society wants to purge them for being impure, or maybe they heard about the crystal from the movie Urskeks after they left and want to take it back to their home planet to experiment on it (which naturally would be harmful to the crystal's home planet.)
We know the movie Urskeks were banished for being impure, but we don't know what exactly this mean, maybe Urskek society leans more skeksis and the movie Urskeks were banished for leaning too mystic.

They might be more of a magically advanced society than a technologically advanced. I don't think the Urskeks traveled to Thra in a UFO, they can just magically fly through the ether of space, right?
I think if they were technologically advanced, the scientist would have known how to make plasma guns and planes and stuff. Medieval-level technology is probably about as much as the Urskeks know, which is why the gelflings are currently at that level of technology themselves. Assuming the skeksis taught them to be more modern, do we know what gelflings were like before they allied with the skeksis?
