Actually been meaning to get into more Yea Forums artbooks.
I own the OTGW one. It’s amazing
Hands down. Unbeaten
I used to buy the marvel movie books, got phase 1. Thor is the most impressive in just the slip case.
I don't know about my favorite, but my least favorite is Inside Out's art book.
youtube.com
It's terribly wasteful about how it's using its pages, and several times it fills an entire page for a single rough doodle. Plus there's very little written content about the making of the movie.
Zootopia is fascinating, there's barely any stuff used in the final movie.
They worked really hard to make shock collars work, and it didn't.
Theres no art to a souless rehash
I saw this at Barnes and Noble. I fell in love with the way they painted building and real world places to fit a video game. Of of those things looking back I should have bought it.
In defence of that user's shit taste, Force Awaken's artbook shows the art and concept for the original script, before the movie was raped.
Marvelocity easily
I have the Tron Legacy art book
>awesome production art
>no proper art book available for purchase

I know it's the hip thing to do among you youngins, but acting like the movie didn't have some great art direction make you sound like an idiot.
The absolute state of zoomers. Go do a long Fortnite dance off a short pier.
Httyd 3 artbook. Which has a yuki.la link around here somewhere.
man I wish I could get my hands on the pdf of that book.
Why? Spiderverse is overrated, ugly, trash shit.
i've heard venture bros has some good ones
Too bad there's few scans for artbooks.
There are some floating around.
probably Power Girl, sometimes Harley Quinn
oh wait art books, never mind, misread
Got this on sale for £10. More than worth it, really gives a good insight in how to develop a cartoon when you yourself lack fidelity. It even includes the original pitch bible and I'm amazed it got through by how shoddy it looks
Most artbooks in my collection are from Japanese anime and games, I also have some niche limited shit that even people from my country wouln't care much for.
I can't choose my absolute favourite one but pic related comes very close, I love sketches and concept - I am also planning to get more Ross' books soon, but this one was the most important. I also like the Usagi Yojimbo one, the ones from Witcher 3, Gwent, Vaiana, the thin ones by Junichi Hayama and the massive Masayoshi Tanaka one.
Any links?
The book is depressing because it shows these amazing concepts that are slowly stripped away of anything unique or interesting.
You are right, but a lot of these only look appealing because they are self contained to some concept art.
If the antagonist of episode 7 actually ended up being some sith twilek lady the internet would go ballistic. Well I mean, they would go ballistic no matter what episode 7 was like, but that in particular would cause a shit storm
This was a good read
Really wish AC wasn't so retconned to hell and back.
I still remember finding the Alice Madness Returns artbook in a college library and immediately falling in love with it and reinvigorating my fondness for historical fiction and fashion. The game it was based on was lackluster with much of the soul ripped out by EA but everything else was much appreciated.
This but for Ant-Man and the Wasp
This one, easily. Stuffed to the brim with fantastic concept art, but I might be biased since Nico Marlet is one of my favorite artists.
>Don't have the one of the first movie
>Goes for like $100+ nowadays
>tfw
its how the only thing that's worth getting from steven universe is it's background art and some of the music. steven sugar is an absolute chad and knows his shit.
seeing all the unused concepts hurts and shows how much potential there was.
seeing how what made it in evolved was also cool and the art is downright gorgeous
It didn't. Except a few scenes it looked terrible, most of it was like a tv movie on bad sets.
Less for its art and more for being a companion book to the Zootopia Documentary that detailed the original outline and world for Zootopia before they got rid of the whole predator shock collar thing.
Looking at the first two "gameplay" trailers hurts just as much
fuck man i wanted big open skies to rail around, and reading some developer interviews about the choice you could have made in that demo alone and the choices they would have hurts my soul
Would be really interesting if Infinite played a bit like the Metro 2033 series, but unfortunately it played to the hands of the AAA first person trends of before (single gimmicks, 2 weapons, murrica) and Kevin Levine's 2deep4rapture writing.
Very happy that I managed to get a copy before it went OoP and then shot up in value on eBay thanks to Netflix and $mash bandwagoners.
What's this all about?
It's mainly her Castlevania stuff, but also a bit of her Samurai Warriors stuff that KT commissioned and fanart of various films and anime off her old blog.
Ah, Castlevania. Thought it was some obscure cult-following animation I missed out on.
thanks for the rec, ordered
>Those tiny foxes in bikinis
Good buy, you won't be disappointed.
My second favorite is probably Rango. Lots of very beautiful concept art, but more than that it's super interesting to read how they even made the movie in the first place, since for most people working on it this was their first time making a fully animated feature film rather than doing CG for a live action movie. Also highly recommended.
Damn, this is gonna end up in my list.
I can second that
Oh fuck I didn't even realize there was one. I need this one
Bump
Probably District 9's concept art, but that's more Yea Forums than Yea Forums.
I picked this up when I went to Disneyland.
And I don't regret a fucking thing. Damn some of this stuff was great.
Batman TAS.
Any Alex Ross art book is great. "The Dynamite Art of Alex Ross" is a overlooked gem I highly recommend.
The HL2 one is a classic
Same, that book is really good and I hope that they get to use things from there in the future.
Frank Cho book of Outrage
I didn't think that Ant-Man and Wasp was short on inventive action scenes or using the shrinky powers in fun ways.
It was short on like- a good screenplay.
The Venture Brothers artbook has a breakdown for every episode from season 1-6. Interviews for each. It's great.
I do like the Hellboy artbooks. Would be cool to have more commentary and insight though.
I also own that book and there's actually not THAT much Castlevania stuff in there. At least compared to how much Castlevania art she has produced. I wish we could get a Kojima artbook with ALL her Castlevania art since it would be enough for a nice big book.
My absolute favorite. I hope they do a smaller one for the remaining seasons when the show ends.
I really like the artbook for Avatar TLA. Good look into the development of the show.
holy shit that's fucking awful
I remember getting the VB artbook for my friend because it came out around her bday but I should’ve gotten myself a copy. I’ll get around to eventually.
The Groundworks of Evangelion series of books is my absolute favorite. I still need to complete the set, but they're pricey. In general, any artbook that includes sketches and concept art I absolutely love. I like being able to see the process. Collections of finalized works are pretty, but don't give me much value. Sketchbooks and concept art books let me see what they were thinking. It's also nice to see what the style was before it was converted into a final product so it can be mass produce.
Non-weeb favorite art books? Art of Zootopia is a quality book.
These look great but they are so fucking much money.
bump
This. I even got mine signed by Pat. It's a good companion piece to the show also, as it wraps up a few loose ends.
Got any more of this? This is really interesting.
How many art books do you own? I've got the books for the Lion King, Hotel Transylvania, Rio, and I decided to order the Spider-Verse one just now. I've also got a bunch of other kinds of art books (such as Valve's Raising the Bar, Rien Poortvliet's book about dogs or Ken Marschall's Titanic paintings), but those ones aren't Yea Forums-related.
I'm super jealous of that Parka Blogs guy who does videos and reviews of these books. Wish I could have access to that many art books.
>that one page that is completely blank except for the title of the picture on the other page
holy shit that is awful. There is zero text or written content on the characters in there. Even the art book acknowledges everyone's blandness
is it rare to have the version with concrete in it
I have over the garden wall, steven universe, kubo and the two strings, isle of dogs, and i got the spiderverse art book for my ex so I can read it whenever I want. I really wish i had gotten the book of life art book, oh well.
My girl just got me this yesterday and it's insanely funny. I've only thumbed through a few pages, but I'm about to start a rewatch and this is the perfect thing to accompany it.
I'm willing to wait another 9 years for a slightly smaller version.
Emoji Movie put their art book on to a neat website, you can check it out here: sites.sonypictures.com
The movie sucks, but I think it's pretty cool they did this.
A few. Spider-Verse, Alice Madness, Zootopia, My Little Pony + Movie, Fate 1-3, Breath of the Wild
Currently only like 2. I really want to get into connecting them though. It's a pretty fairly priced hobby and the size and weight of most of the books makes them feel like they have a lot of value
Nah that's the entire first run of it, maybe more.
Give it a decade

My guess is the book was trying to look really artsy by focusing on the art and making the pages so minimalist. Either way, I was pretty disappointed to discover that there was so little information about the development process of the movie. There were things I was curious about, but the book didn't talk about them at all.
>dead space
I goth the special addition box which came with a few art books. Wish I would have not use the water bottle, fucking thing kept falling over and breaking.

Looking through this thread I want to get the Over the Garden Wall and Steven Universe ones too. I was gonna get the Detective Pikachu one too, but jesus christ why is it like 70 bucks?
How much did you pay for Naughty and Nice? Just curious, because it seems to be one of the more expensive art books.
Also, does the cover on your book have a sitting brunette or a redhead standing behind a curtain? I've seen pictures of those two versions and I've understood there are some more differences between them than just the cover, but I'm not sure about the details.
Notice the collars that make their lives hell.
The fuck? The direction was fucking awful. I totally love the art-book though, but that's only because it's in a different direction.
Can you show us,the stuff?
>The Force Awakens
One of the most depressing books I've ever seen. Imagine how much time and effort was wasted on that shitty and uncreative movie. So much amazing shit thrown in the fucking trash.
Venture Bro's, mostly because I've been waiting for it to come out for at least 2 years after the preorder.
But they don't have any collars in that drawing.
It kinda looks like the foxes and the polar bear have the same kinds of ear tags as people put on cattle, though. I never noticed that before and I don't think I've seen those kinds of tags in any other Zootopia concept art piece.
Not that guy, but some user scanned the book partially, and there's a link to his scans somewhere on Yea Forums archives. The pitch bible is simple enough to google, and this video flips through the full book:
youtube.com
You can get some kind of glimpse at the book's content that way. If you want more, there's no full scan of the book so you're probably gonna have to buy it.
So what was different? I haven't played in a while.
Any sources for this? I'd like to grab some

Matrix isn't particularly Yea Forums-related, but its art book feels like it comes kinda close. Most of the book is spent on the movie's storyboards, and they're drawn and printed in such a fashion that it feels very much like reading a comicbook. There's an unusual amount of effort in the art, too. Usually storyboards just need to convey a rough idea and they don't need to be all that detailed, but Matrix storyboards resemble the art in some published comicbooks.
youtube.com
Basically the first trailers were scripted "gameplay" footage but it showed a lot of interesting stuff, plus a couple others that was cut, changed, deleted, etc.
It was impressive how often the phrase "but we didn't have time to implement it" came up in that book
Good taste.
I think sadpanda has them.
Bump
the Captain Underpants movie artbook is great
I loved the books as a kid but didn't really care for the movie. Will I still get milage out of the art book?
it's a real loss we couldnt see the previous movie
Terry Pratchett's Discworld Imaginarium
Futurelog + Prismtone Range Murata
The Art of MLP:Movie
The Art of MGS
Disappointingly the 2 massive MGS art books don't have anything about the Haven troops, FROGS.
Surprisingly for me, even as a horsefucker, MLP:Movie art book is my favored of them all. Like with nuStar Wars, the movie was heavily cut and all the cut content is in the art book. The concept artists were allowed to draft their ideas in their own unique styles, which results couple of the pages looking like they're concept art for DnD or MtG
Is this the longest Yea Forums-related making-of -artbook? All the ones I've seen tend to have a standard format of about 160-170 pages, and some individual anomalies have about 200 pages, but the Venture Bros book seems to have around 370 pages. "Art of Ooo" is the only other artbook I've heard of that's longer than 300 pages.
The Bioshock one is incredible
Underrated
Bought it when it first released at retail price, so 50 bucks. The cover features the redhead behind the curtain. I wasn't aware there are different versions, maybe the other one is a later reprint or something?
Well given that EA was behind it, as well as all the stuff that we never got(youtube.com
Does it explain the turtles?
I had received all three of the original Art of Star Wars books from a deceased uncle, and they've all gone loose from their old glue binding and I've since lost half of the Return of the Jedi pages. Those were my favorite art books.
Gravity Rush Artbook
Digimon 20th vpet and Pendulum artbook
Digimon Our War Game Storyboard book
Vifam artbook.
Sorry I'm a weeb. I really need more western stuff
These photos are a bit old (gotten a couple more since) and not really Yea Forums-focused, but what the hell.
1/3
The unmarked white one is the Japanese pre-order book for Soul Sacrifice Delta and the old one is the one from the CE of the Zone of the Enders remasters on the PS3/360.

And 3/3 is just other odds and sods.

Nice. I loved this game's art direction. Did Moebius ever get an artbook with his work? GD was inspired by it and I love his art anyways so they'd be great together.
bunch of Disney artbooks plus pic related as the odd one out
The only one I have right now. Definitely recommend.
League of Legend's artbook is very solid.

Friendly reminder that Udon are doing the Lord's work and reissuing the Darkstalkers artbook in hardcover next month.
got a link about it?
I bought their Samurai Pizza Cat book.
>Oh the old movie would've been soo much better!
You guys realize the animators and board arists were just bitching about being non-white and gay right? Somebody literally had to come in and ask them wtf the movie was going for and they didn't even know.

>that asian mom teaching her kids that they aren't white and so they aren't good enough in society
insane liberals go so far left they come full circle into their own warped things they complain about.
It's on Amazon etc.
My favorite one is the Steven Universe book not because of the show which is a disappointing trainwreck, but because it speaks a lot about the production of the show and Rebecca's history of animation work (though nothing about her Yea Forums years or Invader Zim fanart) and not just fun facts like "oh Ralph was a bulldozer for a week"
'The Art of Brave' is my favourite. 'Art of Zootopia' is a very close 2nd and 'Art of Hotel Transylvania' is 3rd.
>Art of Grasshopper Manufacture
Might have to snag one up. Do you revommend it to an on and off who uses its art as wallpaper once in a while?
I don't mind what we got. If anything I was interested in the near-official AU that was version 0. Dystopianly interesting but the production for it was a mess.
Nah I wouldn't have like it, I don't like movies that only spread despair and propaganda.
Yeah for sure. Even a passive fan could get a lot of milage out of it
How much reading does it have about the animation industry?
It's nice that some of those ideas are coming back for Rise of Skywalker though. Particularly the piece of the Death Star in the ocean.
Hopefully some of those other ideas came into play for the movie.
I'm in the camp that the Sequel Trilogy is great, but damn it I hope some of those ideas are used in Rian's or D&D's trilogies. Or even a Disney+ show.
There isnt a ton of reflection on it as far as I remember, but it does go in deapth in terms of design philosophy, the hiring process for new storyborders, the teams writing process, stuff like that. It really is a very good read. I learned a surprising lot from it
The Dofus movie artbook. Not very informative imo but it's eye candy if you like the art.
Damn, Sniper cleans up well.
Thanks for the recommendation. Sounds interesting, and I never would have thought to look for that one.
>hey're drawn and printed in such a fashion that it feels very much like reading a comicbook
Steve Skroce was actually a Marvel artist during the mid to late 90's. He mostly did X-Men spinoffs like Gambit and X-Man
>all the creepy turn-of-the-century automatons
>workers fused with their machines in posthuman factories
>people horrifically combined with their alternate-dimension selves
They clearly had such fun coming up with different concepts, such a shame they had to throw them out.
It is rare to find ourside of online shops. I was actually lucky to find the last remaining copy in my country four years ago. Worth the hunt though!
The Megamind artbook is pretty awesome. It shows a ton of different iterations and concepts for the major characters, lots of guys who were cut as well, and great stuff for the sets, gadgets etc. It's seriously a ton of fun.
I also heartily recommend the Rango book. Showcases all the design work you'd like to see, and the commentaries are thorough and engaging.
On the Wakfu front, there's an artbook for the special "Noximilien the Clockmaker." It's relatively small but seriously cool and full of great design work.
Ah yes, the ol' "you're beautiful if you just take off those dorky glasses" trope.
Anybody know where I can see the art book for red shoes and the 7 dwarfs? I highly doubt it’s online anywhere but I can’t even find a way to buy it
I recall there being a Batman Beyond artbook somewhere that was really great as I borrowed it from a public library once.
What about being beautiful with dorky glasses?
It's like three different artbooks smashed into one
I just got off downloading artbooks from e-hentai, you're full of shit
>weebshit
this is Yea Forums m8
Hot hentai collection over there. Would make art students cum / 10
There's a lot of Yea Forums artbooks on that site too
I usually find following the social media of artists that worked on it to be a good way to find that stuff.
Found a few art books internationally that way.
then why not actually show some?
He already has Peanuts and MLaaTR for Yea Forums on that list and looking for under a minute on sanpanda shows multiple Yea Forums artbooks are on there. Apply yourself.
i share something if you share some stuff
What's the book's name? I thought Batman Beyond only got a tiny booklet that was bundled with some DVD release (pic related). Are you mixing things up and thinking of BTAS and this book? From what I've seen, that book looks pretty interesting and I'd love to get a chance to read it.
Thanks man lot of good shit on there once you hit the right tags
Sounds interesting. Does it talk about the previous versions of the movie before they changed directors and changed the entire movie? I hated Brave as a movie but loved the character and environment designs.
please...
Not so much about the original storyline or even why the director change. I got the impression the book danced around that topic because it was sensitive. It focussed mostly on the character designs & their evolution, and the trips to the Scottish Highlands the artists did for research purposes & inspiration. Unfortunately my books are in storage as i'm between homes so I can't refer to them atm.
I think there is a brief mention that they wanted to show how the early kingdom was split, the rise of Mordu, and the witch when she was much younger. But it was all scrapped during storyboarding & didn't go any further from there. Irc it was due to time constraints. The movie was in production for something like 7 years & they didn't want to drag it out any longer. I think it's still Pixars longest production to date.
It was while watching the blu-ray with the directors commentary on (something I don't normally like to do) that I learned it was supposed to take place in the winter with lots of snow scenes. And it was the rendering of the snow that gave them issues. The director mentions that 95% of the movie was rendered before being entirely scrapped. He even commented that copy "resides somewhere in Disneys vaults" & joke that maybe Disney will release it 50 years from now as a special. I find that very intriguing & would kill to see the original.
Back on-topic about art books, I also have the Art of Frozen. But i'd like to find 'The Art of Tangled' & 'The Art of Wall-E'.
Anyone else got this pre-ordered? He may have been a terrible editor, but he's a pretty great artist.
