Pink Diamond: >Left her jester in a garden, not telling her to maintain it but just telling her to stand still >Bitched and moaned about getting a colony and annoyed the other diamonds >Got a colony and noticed there was organic life on it and that gems were killing all organic life to expand >decided to fake her death and start a thousand year long war that included humans and gems alike, shattering and killing millions >Was responsible for an entire race of gem (Quartz) being shattered/bubbled for no reason by creating a false flag >Hid the fact she was a diamond from everyone to facilitate a war

no one forgave them. They're worth enough power that giving up their role as leaders in HW and halting invasive colonization of inhabited planets is enough recompense, for the time being.
You know, kind of like how extremely wealthy families can be found guilty for a hundred billion dollars worth of damages and get away with it by filing one of their companies for bankruptcy and retreating to their offshore accounts and simply waiting out the next couple of news cycles for the outrage to blow over. The wealthy have perfected the current justice system and nothing is being done.
Or if we want to talk about war crimes, just look at how the US handled Japan's human experimentation in China and the south pacific islands. Top scientists granted official pardons in exchange for their research documents on human torture.

Remember when everyone interpreted this as RQ = PD? They were right, but for all the wrong reasons. Also holy hell the early seasons had great art.
The whole show had pretty great background art up until the homeworld. They're very good at nature and magical Earth nature and these Earth inspired buildings but lost much idea of what to do with a completely alien planet.

the problem with the diamonds is that they wanted to have the Gems fight against REALLY BAD EVIL PEOPLE so they made sure the diamonds did a lot of awful shit, but when the actual moral of SU kicks in, all of that "let's talk it out" stuff REALLY DOESN'T DO MUCH.

The diamonds acted no better than most humans. Take the resources you need to keep going, even lives (animals). Fight opposing ideas (though in this case it'd be like like war with vegans until we realize cows can commoonicate), and punishing what we view as strange or new weirdos in instances of misunderstanding. They're antagonists for plot but not outright moustache twirling evil villains. Their actions were through a passed-down-the-ranks stupidity where certain actions and emotions weren't considered, the most vile probably being the clusters. It's not an outright pat on the back "hey it's alright" forgiveness, but a constructive sort of "now that your aware of your actions and the consequences to your choices, make better ones" sorta thing. Realistically poofing/shattering an evil super diamond would've been a worse shot at peace than reasoning with the enemy, and you can't exactly manage another war when your army's in the single digits, fruit not included.
That kind of sucks. That's like owing your life to Joseph Stalin.

They're a foreign massive society who a lot of them don't even have the concept of empathy. Their structure is literally based on power and the diamond's status as each individually unchallengable gods among the common gems. Steven doesn't have the power to properly fight them, but as long as they're immortal, he can use his power to change them for the better.
You're trying too hard to apply human justice to inhuman situations. Not everything is a direct allegory, the situation is beyond a human comparison.

Considering Season 6 is all but guaranteed YET hasn't even been announced officially by Cartoon Network, I would not be surprised if Sugar planed for the story to be longer, but they weren't given the greenlight for Season 6 so they took the chance to rush and wrap the story up as best as possible with their remaining time slots.
