why do people think hes such a great guitarist?
Sure he has fast fingers and is very technical but everything sounds boring..
Why do people think hes such a great guitarist?
bro you just described 95% of acclaimed guitarists
His Instagram lives are more interesting than his actual music
youtu.be
He's like Clapton when he isn't making a blues album: a great guitarist making boring music.
He's better than you
that doesn't answer OPs question
There's literally no one in the world better at guitar at the moment.
kinoa

sounds like someone who thinks technical skill is the only measure of a guitarist
exhibit A: soul vs souless

BB needs to work on his sweeps
that's my point, BB is notoriously limited, he can't even play chords
but he still captures the listener way better than john playing circles around him..
Why not do both?
idk, because stevie and jimi are dead?
Bonamassa?
Oh god
>he has fast fingers and is very technical
you answered your own question
I can dig this stuff.
youtu.be
>he has fast fingers and is very technical
he is a blues guitarrist
I too play PRS
yeh all his music is like adult contemporary soft rock..
wow nice, what is this genre called
soundtrack for cowboy movie?
>desgustang PRS
John Mayer's a perfectly good blues doodler, but its because he lucked out and got guys like Pino and Jordan backing him up that he graduated from being anything but a pretty-boy singer-songwriter. Dude wrote some half decent pop songs about fuckin bitches, then switched to straight blues before he had a chance to write any absolute cringe.
afaik he still hasn't written a career ending stinker, but that doesn't make him a messiah he's just a good musician
He's an above average blues guitarist. Boomers and fedoras will suck your dick for this alone.
>he can't even play chords
kek what?
i like him because he's pretty /fa/
White people playing the blues is literally the most boring shit in the world to me, jesus christ. When will all the boomers finally die?
Than John fucking Mayer? Are you kidding? Worst take I’ve ever seen on Yea Forums
Is he actually good at guitar? I have never listened to him before and always assumed he's just another cowboy chord player doing pentatonic leads
He's about as good as the one guy at your high school that was really good at guitar.
He’s a good player. He’s not a good artist. He’s like the giga chad level of some fag in guitar center wanking blues scales. But yeah he’s very good at that
Does he play 3 note per string stuff or just pentatonics?
There is nothing more boring than hearing the same blooze pentatonic licks for the hundredth time. That shit started to get old back in the 70s. Can't imagine listening to someone do it in 2022
black tshirts and a sleeve is what goes for effay these days?
guys like BB King, Muddy Waters and Howlin Howl weren't kings for their guitar playing
they were band leaders who wrote the songs that filled the theaters and dance halls, and they never needed to know more than five notes to make it work for them
the guitar became part of the icon because gibson and fender wanted to sell more guitars
This, the fetishization of the instrument and formation of orthodox guitar culture is so fucking annoying.
Top kek. Mayer went to Berkeley and dropped out precisely because he realized he couldn’t hang as a guitarist.
would have we ever gotten hendrix without this tho? music is way worse now that guitars are dying
Listen to the damn links
>blues
You wouldn't know what blues is even if it farted in your face
user pls
sure occasionally he seems to call up taylor the creators' stylist but for the most part he looks pretty dull
Trucks. He is sick. Def has his own voice. Even when he covers Coltrane. His band makes great music.
>two drummers
lmao turned it off there
this
>im a retard
fuck off you stupid cunt.
damn, that'd be a nice post if two people made it
You would be less of an idiot if you werent a retard.
nice tautology, bro
Nice cope, bro
im not really interested in the genre so thats a win i guess?
Bamp? Can he play real scales?
somebody played that note already reeeeee
right...only the most obscure scales and modes for you bro- amiright!
>"Someone asked me the other day, 'What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?" Mayer said. "And by the way, it's sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a nigger pass. Why are you pulling a punch and calling it a hood pass if you really have a hood pass? But I said, 'I can't have a hood pass. I've never walked into a restaurant, asked for a table and been told, 'We're full.'"
>When asked whether Black women "throw themselves" at him, Mayer replied, "I don't think I open myself to it. My dick is sort of like a white supremacist."
I thought he was just a slide player but thats pretty good. no pick even.
Derek Trucks should have been asked to join Dead & Company instead of John Mayer.
>Boomermasa
Cringe
Pentatonics is just boring
youtube.com
The pentatonic scale is just a tool. It's as interesting or as boring as you make it.
Based
he still manages to be one of the greats in spite of that
When I think of a John Mayer fan, I think of an Asian Guy in Cargo shorts, didn't want to become a doctor like his parents wanted. No, he was going to walk his own path. He was going to be a musician. So he went to Berklee, subscribed to Tomo Fujita and Rick Beato's Youtube Channels. Bought a shiny new Paul Reed Smith guitar with a gorgeous flamed maple top. His music business courses taught him the correct way to be a successful musician. When he saw guys like John Mayer and Jacob Collier, those were guys that were doing it right. They were masters of industry. That's who he wanted to be. After school, he ended up as a real estate agent. No one ever wanted to listen to his music, but he never lost his taste for that perfectly polished corporate rock he learned to love in school. Hey John Mayer's in town, looks like he'll have to get front row tickets for him and the wifey.
>Berkeley
kek you fucking retard.
The Micheal Buble of guitar.
