OHG is for discussion of classic, old-school, and "golden age" hip-hop. In other words, real rap music that's focused on lyrics and bars without any autotune "singing."

I was already convinced from the first track! Downloading both F.U. and Nervous Breakdown from rutracker right now.
May have missed the golden age by a few years, but the oldschool was still going strong in the early '00s, and when I first got deep into hip hop this may very well have been my favorite group:

Any of you been around early enough to have an opinion on the Dilated Peoples?
Any Hispanic rap lovers? Fun fact that song was feature in Friday with Ice Cube

One of the best hip hop albums ever (especially jazzy hip hop) was recorded by InI and produced by Pete Rock in 1995, completely shelved by the label over disagreements regarding the musical direction, became one of the most bootlegged albums ever in the meantime and only saw an official release in 2003.
Can't say I've deliberately spent any time on it, but the Delinquent Habits were a name in my music library back when I was most actively into hip hop. Can't even say whether this is a particularly good song of theirs, I don't remember anything standing out to me.
agreed. this album needs more recognition today

>To all the white folks, I'd like to say Howdy!
Recommend me good rap albums from the 90s. I think it's the decade I know the least about hip-hop from (excluding the obvious like Kanye and MF DOOM).
chill song indeed
I'm a dumbass, I meant 2000s.
Unseen - Lord Quas
God's son - Nas
Vaudeville Villain - Viktor Vaughn
Take me to your Leader - King Geedorah
Speakerboxxx/The Love Below - Outlast

Why didn't Canibus never make it big? He had bars back then

shit beats
lyrics too cerebral
mentally unstable
hateboner for Eminem
He's responsible however for the most ambitious project ever attempted in hip-hop

BUCK THAT DEVIL
I wouldn't call them Hispanic rap. That's Kid Frost and all the horrible cringe "cholo rap" he spawned.
Them, Cypress, Fat Joe, Pun, and The Beatnuts were always adamant that they weren't "Hispanic rappers"
They always wanted to be seen (and were seen) as rappers who happened to be Hispanic.
The Next Step by People Under the Stairs (1998)
Question in the Form of an Answer by People Under the Stairs (2000)
O.S.T. by People Under the Stairs (2002)
...Or Stay Tuned by People Under the Stairs (2003)
Stepfather by People Under the Stairs (2006)
FUN DMC by People Under the Stairs (2008)
Because canibus is a chump man. He literally had to rely on bigger and better mc's to even keep his name afloat (em and LL). This might be a little before your time I'm guessing..but he's one of those name droping type dudes, piggybacking off of supposed beef with others..
Like a proto The Game?

Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein
Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030

Does anyone know what happened to "The Almighty Arrogant?" He was some underground artist who dropped a tape around 94-96 if i remember and it was pretty solid, but we never heard about him ever again. He literally Disappeared. He was featured in an article, and that's pretty much it. very few pics of him as well:

This was always my least favorite on 36 Chambers. The W is what is truly underrated
Anyone remember a pretty popular song that started the instrumental only chorus trend? I'm about to break down searching for it.
this quality Dilla joint doesn't get out of my head lately youtube.com
Qtip went full retard on The Love Movement. It's not a Tribe album. It's like some fucked up proto-solo Qtip + only a bit of the gang.
>Still the best sounding Hip Hop album of all time
How the FUCK did he do it?
No social media.. no records.. the man's a ghost!!!
Not rap but a fantastic beat nonetheless

Something about record labels and jews???? It does sound incredibly clean though. Love Stranded on Death Row, what a track!
Best uk rap album ever released
For me, it's Asylum Speakers by Foreign Beggars.

The cover is wack too
I remember listening to this album causally for the first time.
I liked it, but it didn’t leave too much of an impact on me besides this song.
I fucking love this song, might give the album another full listen soon.
>classic, old-school, and "golden age" hip-hop
so can i post tpab here
More of a /prod/ question.
When it wasn’t sampled drums. What kind of drum kits were they using back in the days?
I love the sound of the drums on The Infamous and Ready to die. Was it just default sounds on the machine or did they create them uniquely?
Any /prod/ anons around? I've been producing on a laptop for some years now and would like to get into proper hardware. What's the difference between an Akai MPC 1000 and a 2000XL? Are old school MPC's good for a first piece of gear or should I stick to the MPC One?
I liked tpab better when Ice Cube did it
Where do you guys find underground shit at (both new and old)?
I've just been relying on hiphopgoldenage and productoillicito, they usually have decent enough taste.
I just recently subscribed to this channel. They have some good Memphis tapes.

Discovery is tough, YouTube algo is good. Having friends (lol) who also like hip hop helps. Looking up associated acts or features you like helps.
Rutracker.org has basically everything in mp3 or flac once you find it.
You have to admit, for a song just using beat boxing and rapping, it’s pretty fuckin dope.
