If ever there was a major gripe to be had with this show. The biggest problem with the show is that it is good at building up things but terrible at delivering or keeping up with the promised stuff.
We hear about an intergalactic empire but don't see numbers as humongous as such an effort would require.
We hear Yellow Diamond, with disgust in her voice, say 'organic life', clearly pointing to that organic life exists outside of Earth, and she apparently promised to Steven to not refer to other life forms as lesser, but the only fucking organic aliens we got to see were the worm things. And if there were more, they were so forgettable and didn't have an influence on the plot that they might as well have not existed even harder than the Squats.
The enemies are built up as credible threats and the fact that they're from an intergalactic, presumably monstrous in size empire capable of dealing with outside threats, but we never see Homeworld send a whole army against Earth, only an occassional pack of retards. Not a fleet to glass the fucking planet. Not a few ships filled with hundreds of disposables like the Rubies to just overwhelm the enemy, get the Cluster and reign supreme forevermore.
No humans ever notice or care about alien life, alien structures, alien ruins or alien weapons, nothing, nada fucking happens.

Have the Homeworld be preoccupied with a bigger conflict with some alien race.
Have Steven or maybe Lars run into a resistance of a rag-tag group of alien fighters, maybe Steven realizes that an endless war won't get this shit any closer to completion.
Have Homeworld's serious bulk thus be limited from attacking and whatever does arrive is kept away from Earth with old planetary defence systems Steven and co. activate. Hell, you could sprinkle in foreshadowing for Rose being important in the Homeworld hierarchy before she rebelled by the systems recognizing Steven's gem as valuable.

The better question is why did they waste one of their final episodes on Escapism. Likely the early stuff with Connie and maybe even Reunion were made before they entered panic-wrap-up-mode (although now that I think about it the non-resolution given to Lapis, especially in regards to what she did to Peridot, tips Reunion more into being made under the crunch time), but Escapism managed to be a townie episode stuffed into the middle of what could have been the big conclusive arc to the show. That's 11 minutes that could have been better spent developing White, explaining what the fuck happened to Pink Pearl, or at least giving us a glimpse of every day Homeworld. Cause with the empire dismantled with the time skip it seems like we're never going to see what Homeworld was like for an average gem. The pacing would have been fucked regardless but at least we could have tied up some ends, built up the main fucking villain just a teensy bit more, or actually explored the world that they built over the course of 5 seasons rather than suffer through a pointless episode about Watermelon Racism.

When Rebecca and the crew ask us to take the show and its plot seriously, I think its only fair that we ask they do the same with the art. The way Rebecca talks about how important the themes and messages are, as well as how she talks about wanting to explore all the depth and facets of her characters like she does here 110096037.
More significantly it's how the show attempts to have its overarching narrative. Those are typically more associated with action shows, which are typically taken more seriously than 11 minute comedies. Adventure Time's occasional philosophical episodes are nice but they aren't the norm and you don't see the writers talking about how important they are. And as I previously mentioned Adventure Time doesn't embrace it's continuous narrative the way that StU does. StU at least has more than just the season premiere and the season finale dedicated to it.

It's quite annoying that they were just like "we turned these duders (or not, as for Jasper), now we just use them for comic relief and make problems" use them like gems? Hellooo? Use their expertise, use them to make the townie episodes more interesting than "hurr-durr ronaldo is a conspiracist thats actually right" and "most townies are just there for comic relief". Use them for history and lore on things, knowledge about homeworld. ANYTHING. Big mad.

I don't see how Homeworld being a tech-center contradicts the aesthetic the Diamonds have on other planets.
Earth was Pink's colony and Blue seemed very invested in Earth as well, so it stands to reason that their combined aesthetics are what makes Earth's ruins so different. Just look at Blue Diamond's bathing chamber. Crafted from stone and very artistic (for Homeworld standards anyway).
But Homeworld is the galactic capital of gems. It should very well be a sci-fi metropolis.

Blue went to Earth with members of her court to investigate rumors of a rebellion. This is not something I feel Yellow would do. Blue has a soft spot for Pink and she likely tried her best to assist Pink.
But if Pink never had a colony before, it would make sense that Yellow and Blue teach her a thing or two first.
