The problem is that the reasoning behind the costume change is perfectly valid, but said reason also makes the costume change awful from a character perspective, as we're basically watching a woman have a mid-life crisis because she feels ugly and unwanted in her marriage. It's only "sexy" if you completely divorce it of context, otherwise it's just sad.

Personally I think it looks like shit from an aesthetic perspective too.
