It's a pie laced with paralytics. Though this story was kinda bullshit since Joker used his plot armor to somehow take on Diana, Poison Ivy, Cheshire, and Dr. Cyber. What a bunch of wank.

90s DC was actually pretty great. But I really do think 90s Marvel is every bit as awful as the memes make it seem.

I remember the issue where they retell Diana's origin in this run, they had her wear a magical mask that transformed her into a big boobed slutty blonde amazon so she could compete without Hippolyta recognizing her.

I beat off to that page so many times, imagining other ways it could have gone.

I loved the art but hated the costume.

The Contest is one of my favourite stories. Been reading Volume 2 from start to finish and I'm loving it. Just bought the Jimenez Omnibus and its incredible too.

The reason it's called "Comics Kayfabe" is that they're upholding the fake legend that 90s comics were great. They are fully aware the comics are terrible, but the podcast is essentially them LARPing as a pair of 90s Marvel fanboys.

I have some love for Mesner-Loebs run. He wasn trying to write Marvel comics, both with this and Wally West's Flash. It was grounded, there was a large cast of friends and enemies and he had a sense of humor.
Don't get me wrong, not a Great. He's been forgotten as an average, superficial writer-for-hire and rightly so. But it's very readable.
Byrne was both better in the sense that he has actual talent, and worse in how he has OPINIONS and it gets a bit annoying. Also he used by then really outdated narrative tricks like characters giving lengthy exposition out of nowhere.
Is 90's WW some sort of unmissable masterpiece? No. But it's enjoyable fun.
