Hey shillbros.
I started GRINDING producing in fl the last two three weeks after my interest returned and I've decided I want to try doing vocals and put some of my stuff up.
How do you guys approach writing lyrics? Maybe this isn't the right thread for this, but I figured I'd just ask here first before making a thread on it.
Josiah James
Do you guys actually play guitar, bass, drums etc or do you program in in some of those instruments in your DAW of choice? If so, how do you do that to make it sound 'authentic'?

I'm not sure that I've heard this one before. guitars sound great here, but I'm not too into the midi drum sound. I had initially started off with similar drums for my first album before I switched them to the TR78 emulator. maybe it doesn't bother you, but trying out some drum machines might be worthwhile if you're not going to use a live drummer. I'm always happy to check out your work.
normally I'm not into super thin sounding guitars, but I kinda like it here. kinda reminds me of some of the guitars you'd hear on a Dean Blunt record.
wow. I really like track 5 and I've saved the rest of the album for later. I love incorporating weird/harsh noises in the background of otherwise poppy music and you've done it extremely well here. good stuff.
Austin Baker
really like the visuals of "Fly1n9 L0n9in9", took me a while to recognize the dancing/moving person. main percussion that plays for the whole tracks sounds really dope too. i think the track could use tension from time to time, maybe try to add dissonant chords? too much harmony i guess...

This was great, how'd you manage such a clean guitar tone? Was it clean DI recorded and then amps+effects added ITB? The solo was great, and overall I'm a fan. My only gripes are having the Cowardly Lion as your lead singer and the drum cymbals sound like they're shattering.

Thanks for the feedback!
The guitars are clean DI recorded, then layered with amps and eq and multi band compression. I compressed some of the middle low end, and focused my eq to first get rid of noise with very small bands and then to pump the high mid and low mid frequencies. And yeah the vocalist grew a pair since then, my other tracks are more aggressive, vocals too haha.
Yeah, I have switched to SSD drums n it's so much better.
I appreciate it a ton, thanks!
Also subscribed, I dig your style and looking forward for more stuff, I enjoyed reckoning, good writing and sound, just could be tighter, and no wonder since it's your 2.5 tries haha.

Nice. I dig the funky rhythm in the intro. Very cool. Personally I feel like reckoning could benefit from another guitar track to kind of fill it out more, but that might just my preference. It works the way it is.

Dope instruments. I think layered vocals would suit it a little more. You have a cool voice though.
Personally, I'd boost the volume on the vocals a bit, but I love the cathedral effect.
I listened to "fat fucking pig" and it reminds me of The Voidz a bit, which is great because I can't find anything that reminds me of them. Now I can listen to you!
Wow, you jump right into the action. I'm sorry that Roy D. Katt hurt you.
It's pretty. I'd add a nice, general genre tag like "indie rock."

relaxing synths, not a fan of that muddy 808, but I guess that comes with the genre? Old school Aphex twin 808 drum kit play could really work on those synths.

well produced, the bass sounds really nice, it's recorded right? Kinda hard to express this, but (imo) stylistically, the main synth sounds too happy and does not match the mood.
Austin Baker
> What kind of equipment do you use?
I am constantly changing my setup. On this EP I use a Roland TR8S, Roland TB3, Waldorf Streichfett, Korg NTS-1 (really fun little thing), Strymon Volante and the Modal Skulpt. I also used a Pioneer DJM 350 mixer (really nice fx) and a Arthuria Keystep to control and play the synths live.
> Do you perform regularilly?
I do from time to time but you would need to travel to Tenerife in the Canary Islands to see me. (West of Northern Africa)

This is absolutely gorgeous. Liked, subscripd, looking forward to what you do next.
really need to work on your mixing, vocals are overpowering all the instrumentation to the point they feel detached from it, like they're not part of the song they're over it. I'd say try first removing some of the low end on the vocals cause they're very boomy, that tends to help get them sitting better in the mix, get them at a reasonable volume and also work on your delivery. music sounds good, from what I can hear
it's a cool song, feels a little loaded to the left mixing wise, also could use maybe some more high end on the instruments, don't know if the sort of muffled sound is what you were going for since it's like space music
Justin Lopez
