Season 4 weirdness aside, she's alright. Her and Steven have a lot of cute moments especially in season 1 but her character got kind of boring once she finished her training.

She started out as a kind of fun "girl used to being shut in learning how to have fun" character but gradually became more bland as the show went on. I don't hate her like so many people seem to, but she's pretty boring now. They should have developed her adventurous side more slowly and kept more of her nervousness and apprehension as a lasting trait, instead of basically dumping that whole angle to her character by season 2. She got progressively cuter as the show went on at least.

The difference is that Marco's only connected to the main story through Star.
His time with Hekapoo is barely brought up, his monster arm is forgotten in like 2 episodes. He fucking used the wand and it's never mentioned again.
Compared to Connie who is more of an equal to Steven in terms of story hierarchy. The only problem with Connie is that her role is unclear. She's the human anchor for Steven, but also part of Stevonnie, and also has her own sword and has training. The result is that we have a character who feels a bit out of place in all of these contexts.

Worldbuilding was integrated into even the townie adventure episodes and gem stuff still had an air of mysticism to it. After Jasper showed up it took a stronger turn towards sci-fi and a lot of the wonder was lost. The gem stuff also became more distant from what was going on in the town, so townie episodes became increasingly mundane, and corrupted gem hunting was pretty much abandoned

As bad as Star Vs. got it did this archtype way better.

Marco knew how to pull his weight from day one and he developed in his own direction without Star. He took his rudimentary fighting skills and put dimension stuff on top of the and got his own scissors. He has his own relationship with the extended cast. When the time comes to throw down the fact that there's a low level fighter he can be above without dominating with the big guns means he has his niche.

Connie had to start from 0 on a show that insisted characters fought at a MUCH higher level with nothing below it. By the time Connie picked up a sword we were already on fate of the world stuff. There's also no generic henchman level for either side so she can't just punch out mooks.

Don't care for her much, one of the weaker aspects of the show. They trained her to be something Steven doesn't need, a human friend who can fight and be violent. Issue is, she's not strong enough to contribute anything in comparison to the power of a Gem and she's not useful to Steven because his goal isn't to kill. The fact that this consumed and over shadowed all the episodes about her marked the end of her usefulness in the show. She was no longer Steven's human friend but now someone part of the super natural life, and they keep having to find little pointless things for her to do to excuse her being there.

Honestly? Just kinda meh, she isn't terrible, nor does she stand out, like said, she works well with Steven, but as a standalone character she doesn't really have much of anything, she's just there to provide emotional support for Steven or to mirror his issues.
