Can we have a thread to discuss non-cape comics? What are you reading now? What's your favorite genre? I'm into epic fantasy and space opera
Can we have a thread to discuss non-cape comics? What are you reading now? What's your favorite genre...
I liked Bone.
What's in your pic OP?
Currently reading Goon, waiting for Powell to get back into Hillbilly
I started Saga recently. I like the art, but the only character I really like so far is the Robot Prince.
>non-cape comics
Heh, enjoy your swift archival...
No just kidding, I've been reading the following:
>Snotgirl
>Outpost Zero
>StarCraft Survivors (I don't think it counts)
>Die
>Analog
And recently bought the Saga compendium just to see what the fuss was all about.
Cover art from Sandman Universe #1
>Saga
This is an unedited page by the way.
Also forgot to answer your question: my favorite genre is science fiction, specially if it's hard/grounded/realistic. Not much of a cyberpunk fan, most comics miss the point about it.
Recently I finished Infinite Dark by Ryan Cady, which I enjoyed though I would've liked to last longer. Before that it was Relay, which had a solid start but the art became progressively worse given the artist's issues, so it had sort of an abrupt ending. And before that, it was Stellar, by Blevins and Keatinge.
That's silly but I don't see a problem with it.
>non-cape
>Sandman
Also been reading Middle-west. Lot of people complain that whole setting doesn't make up it's mind in the fantasy setting. But I like it.
Read the first two volumes of this. It's pretty depressing. It being autobiographical doesn't help either.
How is Die? I love Hans' work.
The art is excellent, and I really enjoy the premise. Be warned that it's grouchy adults begrudgingly tossed into the fantasy world they created when they were kids so the tone reflects that, but if you don't mind it, I'm sure you will enjoy the story.
I like it because I'm very into D&D and Gillen went full nerd with it, so yeah.
>What are you collecting in trade now?
American Vampire
Jupiter's Legacy
Mignolaverse (Hellboy and the spin-offs)
Resident Alien
The Metabaron
>What's your favorite genre?
Srs bsns capeshit. Incognito, Miracleman, Planetary, Watchmen, Zenith
Sandman has literally none of the tropes associated with Cape comics. Its epic fantasy
Oh you're one of those
One day, ONE DAY I'll read Miracleman.
What are you reading now?
Going through Savage Sword of Conan right now, I always thought it was boring macho stuff but is actually really good, all the artists are fantastic
What's your favorite genre?
Horror especially golden age comics but I also like some SoL and Sci-fi, fantasy is not really my thing.
why are all sandman autists like this.
It's true. Compare a Sandman story to a Cape hero like Batman and to any mythic fiction book and its easy to see which is more similar
Literally tell me how it's capeshit other than
>hurr durr it's published by DC and canon to the DC universe.
It's true. You might as well call Conan, Dr Who and Star Wars Cape comics since Marvel published all of them.
I'm reading Monstress, does it count?
I'm enjoying it so far, especially the art
Yeah, of course it counts. The art is pretty good although I haven't sat down to read it yet.
Just do it
I read the first volume ages ago and don't really remember the story, but I loved all the art and character design.
I'm reading some Alberto Breccia.
I'm in the middle of a few Euro comics, but they are of the type that are best read in their highest quality, so I don't feel like continuing.
I'm also in the middle of Love and Rockets, which is amazing.
I recently read Morrison's Bible John. Not a worthwhile read; Morrison's been disappointing me a lot with his early stuff.
Is this book any good?
Meant to ask if this book was good.
Sandman is one of the coolest fucking characters
Die is sooo much fun man!
>Srs bsns capeshit. Incognito, Miracleman, Planetary, Watchmen, Zenith
Capeshit would be great if it were all like this, but it isn't.
It's a one shot, read it and find out. Personally, I liked it quite a bit.
I'm really into this book called Port of Earth.
It's a bald faced analogy for neocolonialism -- Aliens come to earth and open up a trade deal and it turns sour.
It's great.
Does anyone on this board read newspaper cartoons?
>"canon to the DC universe"
That's the answer.
I've had the Berlin trilogy for like 3 months and still have only read the first book
Conan is in the Marvel Universe. Is he a superhero now? It's still fantasy even if it is in the Marvel or DC universe.
I didn't.
I dont like Powell works where he doesnt also do the art. Not looking forward to. Goon being predominantly turned over to others.
I'm going through Usagi Yojimbo while taking a bit of a break from Cerebus.
I caught up on two months of 2000 AD proud and two Megazines and it was an utter mistake because now I'm back to counting the days until the next prog.
>Jaegir is back
YES
>Sinister Dexter is back
Okay.
>Indigo Prime is back
NO
>Deadworld STILL ISN'T BACK
GOD DAMMIT
I read old ones like Pogo.
Can anyone recommend a space adventure comic , besides Saga that I can check out? I like Sci-Fi epics.
The Metabarons is cool.
Aama is interesting.
Is it sadder than Persepolis?
Is it me, or was Persepolis kinda shit?
same fag
That is a good one too, but can't we reference stuff like Luann or is there another board where that sort of thing actually gets discussed?
>its another "graphic memoir"
So tired of this genre. I know artists are vain and full of themselves but literally every other non cape comic is this bullshit. And its always some shitty no effort art style
What about Fangbone?
The Canadian animated series produced by Radical Sheep Productions and Pipeline Studios in association with DHX Media?
I'm not familiar.
There are sad moments but it's mostly filled with more "shock" value. It made me question if it was true or if the artist was stretching the truth to make it seem more dramatic. But I have to read the other volumes and learn more about the artist to be sure.
The same.
What are some moody comics that deal with romance ? Any genre really. Just something with expressive art that makes me feel
Snotgirl. But it's also very quirky and comedic, so beware!
Thanks. Is there anything from a male perspective?
Breakfast After Noon is nice
Recently read In The Pines by Erik Kriek which I really liked, but then again I'm also on a bit of a murder ballad binge.
Also recently read a book of which I forgot the name about a hidden hedonistic (french?) coast town that dealt with corruption, fame and the ultra-rich. I don't remember the name, but the cover was of some woman elegantly jumping of a building and the book was heavily stylized. Anybody know what I'm talking about?
What do you guys think of my reading list? I like space operas so it's weighed towards that. I picked up some of them on sale digitally.
>literary
>Lemire
>Remender
>What do you guys think of my reading list?
I get what you're going for, but it's neither smart nor funny enough. Start over from scratch
