Based Crumb.

Ha, this is kinda true. There are some insightful Crumb comics though. But stuff like Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers is pretty dumb storywise, only significant for its subject matter.

It rings somewhat true but it's also a gross oversimplification
I know it's just a simple joke. But these people love throwing Crumb under the bus

What made underground comix so appealing was their honesty.

You open up other comics of the time period and you'll find nervous-eyed men and women who clearly want to fuck but awkwardly insist that they don't want to fuck.

It's called normal human courting and behaviour, do you think crumb actually got to randomly grope and fuck Amazon women on the regular? No, he was just a pervy autist who got lucky one in a blue moon, then got money and got more lucky.

I wanna fuck

Underground Comix weren't revolutionary because of their "2 Deep4U" or "mature" stories. Oh sure, they're there, but it's the freedom that makes them special. To be able to draw what you want without having to worry about what the Comic Codes Authority has to say about it. The freedom to make something as deep or as dumb as you want.

Tell that to the author of OP comic and the other mongoloids who don't understand the context and just cry sexism/racism or whatever else

I already sent an email to the comic's author, and he apologized for ever making such an offensive comic. You're welcome.

You're a good lad. That'll teach em

Fpbp

Are we going to enter in a new age of underground comix what with how comics are these days?

>pretty dumb storywise
So were Cheech and Chong movies, but they're still fun.

Attached: 4463684384_40065dd4ed_z.jpg (524x640, 209K)

>do you think crumb actually got to randomly grope and fuck Amazon women on the regular
I mean, his wife was large enough to give him piggyback rides, so yes.

>having a waifu big enough to piggyback ride on
Based Crumb, living the dream

I don't thin it's a coincidence that the so called "new generation of comic book fans" of today sound a lot like the old fogeys that decried underground comix back in the day when they were new.

Funny how things seem to loop around like that

He forgot to put all of the furries.

The 70s were a trash decade honestly. Like every other piece of 70s media is just "HAHAHA YOU BET I DON'T HAVE THE BALLS TO SAY NIGGER POOPDICK? WELL GUESS WHAT, NIGGER POOPDICK! FUCK YOU FOR MAKING ME GO TO CHURCH MOM AND DAD!!!"

And unlike the 60s the music wasn't even good.

looks like, he can't relate.

And in a few year you will be able to make exactly the same strip but with webcomics.

>do you think crumb actually got to randomly grope and fuck Amazon women on the regular?
there is literal video record of it

My parents were In the underground comics scene in the 70s, all of their old stuff is exactly like this.

why did they raise such a beta then lmao

prove it

You mean that hasn't happened already?

My parents think I’m cool fuck you
I’ll make a storytime thread the next time I visit them

Link it

I pray the woke culture comics of today are seen just as silly in the future.

im glad we've most past that and cartoonists never insert their fetishes into their work anymore

>Tell that to the author of OP comic who just cry sexism/racism
wat

Underground comix like what Crumb has done is considered highly offensive and racist these days. They would rather just bury the entire history despite how impactful it was on the comics industry I swear.

Can't wait for them to discover what Alternative comedy is.

I only read webcommics that are exclusively fetish fuel

It was back in the day too, but then again, that was the point of underground comix.

Alt rooms are the fucking worst.

When are we gonna post thirsty Crumb comics
EXTRA THICC

>elevated the medium
Never trust anyone who says this

Attached: Dork-003-pg10.jpg (1200x1545, 953K)

If you re-read underground comix from the 70s you will instantly see what made them famous.
Sex, with the soccer mom mentality back than
Grotesque art
Drug preaching and drug art
Anarchy
Wall of text to try to philosophic, like you do on drugs
But their substance was like drugs, no lasting effects, fastfood comics which can be reduced to sex and weirdness.
Only thing they spawned is more sexcomics.
But noone will say, "you remember this undergroundcomic?". They are all forgotten. You will have people who will remember old comic series randomly, but no 70s underground comics. I still think their "impact" is not existence.
The ones saying they were important, are mostly intelactual wannabes and stoners, to verify their habits and opinions.

Attached: image.jpg (523x700, 167K)

Their appeal was, it was stoned in comics form. Just like drugs pretending to be clever but hollow as fuck. Only a handfull of them can be seen as subversive or insightfull.

Fuck anyone and everyone who hates robert crumb

And most importantly fuck modern feminism for demonizing him

Referring more to Rik Mayal and Ade Edmondson but go off.

Surprised nobody has called you incels yet
I happen to agree with you lads. I'm just honestly surprised nobody started shitposting.

Pretty accurate. A lot of those old "Comix" were visually interesting and inventive in the form of their storytelling, but they were pure id in their actual content.

I don't know. The whole underground comics scene never really interested me. I think the most interesting time for comics was when graphic novels started becoming more common and mainstream, because their purpose was something other than to shock or push boundaries.

I suppose the closest modern equivalent the the old Comix is Megg Mogg and Owl, in that Hansellman is a modern form of the kind of degenerate that made those old underground comics.

What's so bad about saving women?

There was other sides to the 70s than that. Technology and space was still in people's minds, people looked forward to the future. Communications, cloning, computers, speed records, all were taken seriously and not for granted. Some time in the 90s that all stopped and people are now inward and backward looking.

>modern form of the kind of degenerate that made those old underground comics
Being open about whatever your kinks were was a necessary thing then, but it descended into artists and writers just doing their growing up in public.
At least it paved the way for graphic novels, i think they can be pretty damn good. MM&O is kind of a throwback to the early 90s "all my friends are cunts and i'm a directionless bitch". Too much of that and you start to see through it.

>make the creator apologize for his art
Okay, feminist.

>And unlike the 60s the music wasn't even good.

Man that's a lot of wrongness to pack into one post, user.

Ha ha, take THAT, Eisenhower!

He's right you know. I appreciate what underground comics stood for but Sturgeon's Law strongly applies.

Women don't need your saving.

Oh, they were actually called Underground comix.

Think it's mostly shitting on the damsel cliche being part of the boring and predictable common superhero premise of that time. Ironically, nowadays you probably would have to make a stronk independent womyn who need no man and announcing it to the world -reference to do the same joke.

No. Because we are already in this age. Its not because of the big 2, but because distribution is easier with the internet.
They are called Web-Comics.

In the future?

Thats really good. Not that i agree 100%, but that are all good points.
Who made this?

Going by the file name and art style I'd guess it's Dork by Evan Dorkin.

>Megg Mogg and Owl
Still its the typical stoner comics or teen comedy of the 90s-00s of randomness and stoner humor slice of life with a hint of social commentary.

It like said. Its the common trope of action that good vs evil rescueing his love interrest.
She could also stand in for any victim, bystander or oppressed person.
But dont take it too literal, i think its meant easy black vs white thing.

Almost like... a horse-shoe.

>keep on wantin' to fuck!

This
MMO is just garbage
half the time its so fake with it's forced drama and sentimentality
the other half of the humor is just drunk, high and violent people doing stupid and violent things
all of the sake of being edgy and indie

where crumb was exploring subject matters in a medium where it just didn't exist in the public eye, MMO is just doing a shitty job at portraying a reality anyone can see by flipping on oxygen, MTV, or any other reality station

You mean as silly as the Underground Comix?

Word up.

>furries existed in the 1970s

That's the real story here. Furries and trekkies.

FYI, weebs and furries have shared ancestry. It's pretty interesting.

youtube.com/watch?v=8aF2GxWi7Ag

Attached: vootie zero.jpg (476x600, 97K)

They did start a movement. They shook it up. They were against the censorship

Bear in mind this is Old School Furries, who actually were all about the 'anthropomorphic animals as a device in fiction', rather than the modern era Fursuits, Fursonas and Fetishes Fandom.

>And unlike the 60s the music wasn't even good.

What genres do you like? Most of the genres I like started in the '70s.

>Black Sabbath

>Suicide
>Throbbing Gristle
>Crass
>This Heat
>The Clash

>Sex Pistols
>The Cure
>Ramones
>Public Image Ltd.
>Siouxsie and the Banshees
>Germs

Well, according to the documentary the creeps got pretty fast into the fandom, which sparked a backlash. Think the 'fandom' is still to this day more divided than lot of people like to think. I personally think there isn't even a fandom, just people who are into animal characters for varied reasons and a bunch of autistic retards who try to hide their anxiety by grouping up and labeling themselves + the psychos who try to cultivate some sort of an icon status for themselves within said groups.

>you probably would have to make a stronk independent womyn who need no man and announcing it to the world -reference to do the same joke.
BUT she would have to look like a bland teenager with the imposing appereance of a beach amoeba so male teenagers don't feel emasculated and internet feminist don't feel inadecuate, or so told me hollywood.

you are an asshat

You're right about the latter part of the 70s specifically regarding pop music, but the first half of the 70s was fucking great, and even during the disco era the underground scene was incredible.

To be fair church is fucking boring and gay fuck you mom and dad

Eh, Up In Smoke is the only decent one.

and you're as bad as anyone who freaks out when people like things that they personally don't like
are all underground comix fans babies like you or is it just you?

Wanting to fuck is disgusting but universally relatable. That’s part of what was groundbreaking- the dissolution of taboo.

They're just the most recent ZOG generation. Every generation raised in ZOG is made stupider than the last.

Thanks. I didnt saw it, i feel dumb now.

Thast a good point. I dont like Crumb to be portreat as this big influence and herald of undeground comics, but i agree with your points.
Especially that this could be somewhere on MTV today.

The joke is that despite being touted as classics in some circles Crumb's stuff isn't smart or particularly funny. Both of these things are true. Not sure why you guys are screaming 'muh SJWs' about this.

LBJ, not Ike.

I think scoob posting sucks!

Great attention to detail on the number of fingers in each salute. They really could draw.

that's not even the shit you get mad at crumb for!! he's got all the weird sex and race stuff and you get at him for making comics about being horny??

Daily reminder

any negative or indifferent reaction to mentions of sex means your a SJW who wants to kill men

The culture war has gotten so bad anybody saying something isn't funy outside of it's context is automatically assumed to be saying that cause their some SJW puritan as opposed to just being critical of old media.

>>furries existed in the 1970s

Yeah they did, BUT the Fabulous Furry Freak brothers had nothing to do with furries.

Attached: 2219.jpg (520x721, 165K)

>I personally think there isn't even a fandom

I tend to agree with this. I think there WAS a fandom in the 90s/early 2000s, but the main fandom was utterly overrun by perverts, and nowadays I think there are just the pornographers and people who are into the sexual side of things, and people who like to use anthropomorphic animals in their work, just as artists have been doing for thousands of years, and have nothing in particular in common with what people think of as furries.

I mean, even back in the day, I used to wonder why furries were considered "a fandom", since there's no unifying element in their interests, and no central work of fiction or art for them to coagulate around.

But man was it annoying if you liked to draw anthro stuff in the early 2000s. All the normies would try to categorize you, or if they hung out on Somethingawful, mock you. Nowadays nobody cares anymore.

You say that, but truteal is kind of known for posting old ass comic strips. That's kind of his thing?

basically everything good you could say about MMO, you could also say about reality TV like Jersey Shore

maybe, just maybe, you'd have a point about the art being good if the author treated the medium well or in an interesting way
but even the most "art heavy" moments are just cheesy in hindsight

These are the same retards who think citizen cane is beloved for its plot and character writing

>Wanting to fuck is disgusting but universally relatable. That’s part of what was groundbreaking- the dissolution of taboo.

Looking back on "Indie Comix" which I liked at the time, it eventually does become very boring just reading about how much some ugly loser wants to have sex. It's extremely rare that anything entertaining, novel, or interesting comes of it anymore.

I can find a million lifetimes' worth of the freakiest most hardcore porn imaginable in mere second right now by typing a word or two or just stumbling on it. Sex is in everything because it makes money in a lazy way with no overhead costs. That's great, but if I'm horny, I'll find millions of years worth of totally free porn even if porn ceased production this second, there's more than enough. Everyone talks about sex sex sex, schools force education about sex sex sex. That's not bad, it's actually good, but all novelty and taboo around sex is gone forever and everything has been done, There's a permanent porn and sex glut forever now. It's boring as fuck to read about. The older you get, the more boring it is to read about how a fat loser female or male or "whatever" wants to fuck. Big fucking whup. It's like watching a YouTube video of a fat old woman breathing now. I mean, good for her, but I don't give a shit.

People who have a problem with those kinds of comics are the reason the comic industry sucks so much nowadays.

Even the "indie" scene has it's own cliches.

Your post reeks of Yea Forums

Nah
The comedy & the tragedy are the two sides of the same arrested development loserdom that's the core of the comic. It rises above "reality television" in the way it unflinchingly treats the depressing & inevitable consequences of their irresponsible lifestyle.

That isnt goofy

Not the other poster, but there's a scene in the Crumb documentary where like 10 different chicks talk shit about him as a lover, so he was probably getting it in. I'd link you, but I'm on mobile on a night train.

>r-reddit
nope
>Yea Forums yeah that's it you're from Yea Forums
now I'm waiting for you to say I'm from gaia

>It rises above "reality television" in the way it unflinchingly treats the depressing & inevitable consequences of their irresponsible lifestyle.
literally the only thing that has happened is werewolf jones died
there's been no development, no real change to anyone, maybe some breakups and fights, but those aren't consequences to actions

And the reason I split up the comedy and tragedy is because unlike Arrested Development, Simon has no clue how to blend the two
it's supposed to be funny until Megg takes a look at herself in the mirror and says "man, it sure was rough growing up" and then a single tear falls and that's how you know the jokes are over
You could potentially argue that Owl's tragedy is everyone else's comedy, but at the same time--where are those consequences for everyone else treating him poorly?

Okay so you don't like it. That's fine. Your opinion isn't Word of God you raging autist.

Reminds me of a line from an episode of Psyche.
>You want heroes, look to Police and Firemen. They're heroes. Those guys wearing their underwear on the outside punching through walls, they're on angel dust.

>implying I said it was
I gave a criticism of it (pic related is my opinion)
you got mad
can we end this "conversation"?

Attached: hqdefault (1).jpg (480x360, 13K)

I remember that. His brothers were even weirder that he was. There's a scene where either an ex gf or current one said his shlong is as big as he draws it in his comics.

>No black flag
>No dead Kennedy’s
Missing some important shit there user.

I'm a different user than the user you first responded to. I just found your bickering annoying. Now go away Mr. Sherman. I'm sure you have actual reviews to get to

The consequences happen all the time, you see the fruits of their horrible lifestyle over and over again. Simon makes it clear that, despite all the hijinks, they're on a one-way road to nowhere and they're profoundly discomforted by that fact, the hijinks themselves are something they do to keep from facing that.
Also, I wasn't referring to Arrested Development, the show, I was using the term that show is named after i.e. their stunted maturity. As far as the humorous & dramatic elements "not being blended" I don't really have a clue what you mean. There are some strips with uniform tones of either depressing or silly, MMO runs like hundreds of pages, but most of the longer sagas are a mix of the two.

The OP comic isn't crying racism or sexism though. It's more of a contrast between the authors expectations based on the way people talk about this stuff versus the reality. Personally I agree with that the freedom from the CCA is what makes these classic comix appealing even though they're mostly written poorly.

In panels 7 and 8 the black-hat's hat becomes pure white. Is that a commentary on how we can become what we hate and how this eventually destroys us?

>tfw no woman will ever save me
it's sad that overwhelmingly women complain that too many men want their attention, being completely unaware of how common the polar opposite is

A lot of modern furries seem utterly uninterested in furry media too. Sure you might occasionally get something that catches on with them in a big way like Zootopia but it's not the focus of the fandom the way anime is for weebs. Maybe it's just my outside observer status but I don't see a lot of "you damn kids need to read Usagi Yojimbo and Erma Felna EDF and learn what good taste is" the same the anime fandom does with Gundam or LoGH.

it's because they're perverts, not fans. they'd only read usagi to masturbate to him

It was his wife that said his has a big penis

Weebs are massive perverts but they still argue about taste and actually watch/read shit. Idk why furries can use that as an excuse.
