I wanna think that MKUltra Purple doesn't have a clue to what he's doing. He knows he has to follow suspected Tallers but when the time comes to actually do the covert ops, Purple's handlers give him a code phrase and he does what needs to be done and goes back to being himself, once he wakes back up in the Black ops headquarters.
He can be friendly, and he can legit disarm someone by being total bros with them(which is how he gets into certain circles in the first place) and how no one suspects he's anything but some tall, cool guy who loves doughnuts.
Purple really has no clue to what he's actually doing. He works for Miyuki as an assistant, but to his knowledge, that's really all he knows.

Well, I can speak for myself seeing IZ airing in early teens (when you first start having sexual feelings), and it was one of the shows around that was "darker" or had xeno/kidnapping/restraints/ideas of torture etc. That family of kinks explains the sadism. Y'know I had a relatively large art blog for years but I never actually figured out what "tumblr-style" means when referring to art, because I just did my own thing. I've heard like, darkening skin colour, reddening noses, but those are just changing the character design so I wouldn't call that a style. I want to discuss the morality of Original Show Dib. Obviously comics and movie Dib is a lot more moral of a person and closer to the typical hero. However original Dib could be pretty cruel at times and seemed to put his “research” before others. He almost sacrificed himself to send his classmates to another dimension for bullying him and had no problem going after supernatural creatures that weren’t malicious like Zim.

i was there when it sprung up. basically, people from DeviantArt were posting stuff about how to make your art "better". one of the ways was to use a lot of really weird choices for coloring skin like a lot of red for the center of the face (which later on became the tumblr nose syndrome when it merged with how some homestuck artists would color in noses for visibility of the character i think?). after that, there was a lot of artist redraws of anime so then the tumblr face probably sprung from there (i didn't watch anime so i'm less familiar on this one) but basically people saw anime as having too unreal expectations and would do these certain and distinguishable habits that became the "tumblr face" which was: shortening the forehead for some reason, drawing everyone the wrong skin color, making noses huge to contrast the small anime noses, rounding the pointy manga-styled faces, fattening characters, for whatever reason not making the eyes a normal size so they still have large anime eyes, and then occasionally thickening the eyebrows, adding mustaches to females, vitiligo, etc.
