Thanks OP.

Thanks, OP.

This deserves more attention. Thanks for sticking to it OP.

>tfw she knows exactly what you meant, but won't ever acknowledge it

Bumping because I appreciate it OP
I'm putting good money on the Reads thread being a clusterfuck when OP gets to it.

Not going to lie, these pages of text in Jaka's story are fucking boring and then it gets even worse when the story turns into an autobiography of Oscar Wilde's death for 10 issues.

I have a hard time believing anyone passing by in the catalogue is going to stop by and read dozens of pages of text, as evidenced by

I already have read these issues, and the big text pages of Jaka's story are a massive waste of time outside of a handful of pages. The Oscar Wilde stuff is entirely a massive waste of time and has nothing to do with the rest of the story.

The Reads thread are going to be even more dead than now as the reads themselves are packed like brick walls and have nothing to do with the main story. Jaka's backstory I at least found interesting, especially once best girl Astoria got involved.
I also agree with in that anything to do with Oscar Wilde in Melmoth had no business of being in the main series and should have been relegated to a side-story, spinoff, or seperate work. Same with most of Reads.
I'm convinced that Dave's sudden obsession with Oscar is an early manifestation of his later problems and a need to somehow fill 300 issues.

>Same with most of Reads.
I'm actually up to that part right now. Can I skip all those Victor bits without missing anything important to the Cerebus storyline?

Yes. There are maybe a few bits about Astoria (and Cerebus, I think, it's been a while since I read them) that have anything to do with the main story but they're completely inconsequential.

If Rick didn't mention Victor being a friend or acquaintance of his later on, they would have no connection to he story at all.

Agreed on Melmoth however I do genuinely think that if Sim had just stopped on Cerebus for a while and had made Melmoth its own book it might be considered a masterpiece. I think it's brilliant on its own merits - it just shouldn't have been in Cerebus.
Yes. But if you skip them it might take you by surprise when Dave Sim losses the plot and the comic itself starts going to shit. Sim's essays (rants?) are essential to figuring out Sim's mental state and how he ended up bonkers by the end of the comic.

Oscar Wilde? More like Oscar Mild.

>I think it's brilliant on its own merits - it just shouldn't have been in Cerebus.
This. I enjoyed reading Melmoth as well, it's touching and beautiful. But it made no sense being alongside the Cerebus bits. I've read that that the two together could be interpreted as the end of one life and the restart of another, but there's some reaching involved there and it's mostly an obvious, if masterfully crafted, love letter from a fan.

Exactly. It's great meditation on death. I get what Dave was going for but it just shouldn't be in Cerebus, at least at that point.
