It’s a kid’s cartoon, it’s not anything unexpected in that sense. There’s lots of cartoony feeling episodes where characters have these tiny problems, and that’s a little slice of lifey, but rarely too serious. From what I’ve seen so far there seem to be a lot of episodes that deal with an individual kid’s relatable problem that is not at all far fetched, and it’s got a mature, keeping it real tone that’s refreshing because it’s so absent from a lot of modern day cartoons, Loud House comes to mind.
It’s not one for my favorites list but it’s good, if that’s your taste.

It's a mixture. There are a lot of pretty standard kiddy slice of life episodes, which deal with kids being kids. Then just occasionally there are episodes that evoke a strangely surreal, jazzy late night vibe that brings to mind a lost 20th century urban vision that has long since vanished. Mothers hanging out washing, kids playing in the streets, burst water pumps and stoops, urban escapades and legends. Episodes that dwell particularly on characters like Helga and Arnold tend to have a surprising grit to them. Their problems and issues are relatively grounded, and Helga particularly is probably one of the most three dimensional of characters in a kid's cartoon. Things are greatly assisted by a brilliant and underrated soundtrack and art direction.
Quite honestly, it's one of the few cartoon series that it is possible to start watching from scratch as an adult and still have quite a good time, especially if you avoid more filler episodes. To put it bluntly, it encapsulates a mood which is rather unique and nostalgic - representing a zeitgeist for a 20th century America that may never have existed at all.
