Well, I didn't remember the exact terms to be honest, but I guess I remembered right.

The vampire part at least, yeah. Funny how many early heroes were in a way or another related to Jim Hammond.

He was the first real superhero in Atlas Comics (because Namor didn't have heroic traits, unlike Jim); so I guess it makes sense.

Invaders #7. Tony took him to his workshop and welded him into a new suit. The decapitation happened in #5 during the fight against Namor... Things got a little heated.
