The series was a nice comfortable watch and I can't wait for season 2.
They met a marra at her house once and she had a normal mom. Seems like they are either a separate species or cursed or something.
She only had a few lines but she is a witch who is clearly trying to downplay that aspect of herself for whatever reason. She is helpful but also slightly smug and aloof. She is fun.

Marras in the Hilda world are probably just the equivalent of novice witches. "Marra-ing" is probably just be like grabbing cigs and beer to enjoy with other teens in the woods. If this was an edgier cartoon, it might have been a date way to more severe magical practices like sacrificing animals or outright hurting kids to get a stronger "hit" of negative magic the same way some druggie kids upgrade to harder drugs.
Only in two episodes, gets little screentime. However, she is confirmed to reappear in season 2 and I think her episode in the next season is called "The Witch's Tower" so that should be cool.

It's pretty great, has great atmosphere. I wish the writing had a bit more edge to it than it does (David and Frida are pretty lame characters). I liked when Hilda and Frida got into a fight though. That was cathartic as hell.

That's because people and the magic creatures themselves try to stay as away as possible since they can't coexist: Trolls are a menace to people so they kill them so they did with the giants. There's a dicotomy between the creatures world and the human civilization that feels so natural in the Hildaverse. Hilda is between those two worlds and that makes her an interesting chartacter.
