Growing up...

>Growing up, I didn’t have a super hero that looked like me and it’s really exciting to give a new generation something I did not have. I couldn’t be more excited.
Do you have a super hero that looks like you, Yea Forums?

How about you go fuck yourself?

Fuck off dickhead

My mom did say I would’ve made a good Peter Parker. I thought that was a weird thing to say ‘cuz I was 14 at the time, but I took the compliment all the same.

... have they decided on which words that sheng-chi is now? Because the original words are pretty dumb.

Narcissism

Asians are so fuckin spolied they had all those Kung fo movies

Literally every Chinese martial artist is a copy of Bruce Lee.

>movie has an Asian kung-fu master as the main character.
Yes, really breaking boundaries and stereotypes there....

>Do you have a super hero that looks like you, reddit?
no, apologize right now kr*KKKa

>Growing up, I didn’t have a super hero that looked like me
He was born in 1978. Weren't Ultraman, Speed Racer, and Spectreman still airing on American TV in the 80s?

But I am convinced this is an American thing. I just liked superheroes because they were cool.

I never understood that 'I did/nt have a superhero that looked like me'. Yeah, pretty sure no superhero looks like random 9 y/o child anywhere. It's a dictional adult with unreal abilities, of course you cant identify with one,

I have never identified with any fictional character because either I liked for stupid reasons like what they did or their color scheme or because I knew they werent real.

Do people really go "Oh wow, this disney princess has my same hair color. I'm SO like her!"?

Outrage-bait fail

I meant Yea Forums, obviously

Identity politics is, unfortunately, quite the burgeoning American tradition.

No you fucking didn't, you don't accidentally type Yea Forums when you meant Yea Forums unless you're completely fucking retarded, but I shouldn't expect too much from Yea Forumsermins.

Yeah, pre-serum Cap.

>no hero that looks like him
Someone doesn’t know his own history then, but then american Asians have always been retarded

>breaking stereotypes
>Asian only kung fu mans
So groundbreaking and brave

>Cretton
You’re not Asian, and you don’t speak for me or my people

t. real Asian with real Asian name to prove it

He’s irish, Slovak, and Japanese American who was born in Hawaii
Dumb fuck had 6 cultures of heroes to choose from and he couldn’t even be bothered to find one.

The pain is real.

>Dumb fuck had 6 cultures of heroes to choose from and he couldn’t even be bothered to find one
I find that mindset retarded, why does it matter what race or culture a hero comes from?
It's not like that's what makes them relatable or good characters.

What about Bruce Lee and all those kung fu flicks released on local theaters? Also, he was a teenager when Jackie Chan and Jet Li's movies hit the videostores. I guess the most important thing is to be grateful to massa Disney

I liked Superman growing up and I’m a tan brown eyed manlet with 15-20% body fat. I look nothing like this fictional character, but you don’t see me complaining.

I didn't give a shit

>be me
>become an orphan at 18 months old
>get taken in by my aunt Faye
>grow up in poverty, but happy
>discover Spider-Man
>ThatsMyHero.jpeg
>followed ASM ever since
>lost my Aunt Faye last month to cancer
>read today’s ASM
Man i need a hug, think I’m going to go and play with my dog or cat

Its what multiculturalism leads to

Sjw arent smart enough to grasp this concept
They lack the imagination required and can only look at the appearance of a hero

>that looked like me
Every fucking time.

That’s true a hero is remembered for the extraordinary things he did, deeds that reverberate across cultures that’s why they’re called heroes
But he’s the idiot who tries to make it about race and culture, and he literally had 6 different distinct types of heroes to choose from. If he couldn’t even find one that’s on him no one else.

Identity politics isn't exclusively an American development. Its popping up in every western nation in its own way.

Specifically the ones with ties to isreal

Not really many other countries are melting pots without being so annoying or prude. Don't try to shift blame.

Growing up, I watched Asian action films (and Horror films as well) and Anime on Cartoon Network's Toonami and SciFi's Saturday Anime or whatever Anime marathon they would have, all that in addition to whatever Marvel, DC and other Western animated shows. Let's also not forget that in the late 90's and early 2000's, there were Asian action films produced by Western companies or being brought over from Asia to America, like those Jet Li and Jackie Chan movies, or even Tony Jaa's films like Ong Bak. The problem is when Hollywood tries to adapt Anime and they whitewash it. Although I'll admit, I still thought those Guyver movies were cool growing up, I just didn't know it was based on a Japanese Manga.

Ultraman is still running

I’ll give you annoying but prude? That’s an outright lie ever other country is equally if not more so.

Please name one successful melting pot. You must know of many other coutnries that do the concept justice without being prudes or annoying.
Its not like your just defending a failed concept or something

I could effort post on about how Social Justice is the natural result of Liberalism running out of actual inequalities to fight in the name of profit for the financial class and as such needs to make fictious ones, but that's more effort than I care about for this shitty thread, so I'm just going to say:

Yes. People with double digit IQs literally do just that (identify with fictional characters who have the same hair/skin color as them). Remember, most of the human population has an IQ below 90.

I don't know, I think it's just retarded american identity problems

Also people turning these "opressed people" into politocal groups who allow others to make their political desicions for them

Some people are just that pitiful, nothing you can do but laugh at em.

>sjw are only an american thing
Having fun with all those muslims in the EU?

Ancient Rome, but then it got destroyed by the German barbarians. There was also Persia, but they got defeated by the Roman/Greeks and then conquered by Islam.

I forgot, Hollywood even whitewashes the characters if the source material was made by people who grew up in the West but the characters are Asians or people of color, like Avatar: The Last Airbender or Starship Troopers.

> that looked like me
Chinkz tranny here we go

I mean, I do now, but back as a kid I didn't have Kamala Khan and just assumed the West didn't know about my country. Turns out they fucking hate it and get triggered by it's existence.

>got destroyed thanks to massive amounts of immigration
So it failed because of multiculturalism

>successful melting pot
>Rome
>a country that was destroyed because the Germans didn’t want to assimilate and destroyed it instead
user what the fuck?
>Persia
>being destroyed by Rome
>when it was the Islam the religious cultural group that refused to assimilate that destroyed and genocided people into compliance
Seriously what the fuck?

Tell me your country and I’ll explain why I’m triggered

But Asians conversely only cast asians in their adaptations, and Indians only Indians, etc. America is the only place expected to take the whole world into account. The American anime isn't bad because not casting the "right" race. It's the movie makers trying to bend anime plots to American sensibilities. And the same can be said for comics characters to movies in a way, but we've been primed to accept AUs are a thing and how shitty they adapt a character is ok because Earth - #. People should start calling American live action Animes American AUs like thy have HS au shit over there I know that.

I have no problem with a Shang-chi movie though. They have to start hitting other characters sometime. Maybe they can work it into a new Iron Fist line that doesn't suck because I want Iron Fist and Power Man bros.

Oh shit, let me be more clear. The Western half of the Roman Empire got invaded by German barbarians and got destroyed while the Eastern half of the Roman Empire survived and got into a series of wars with the Persian Empire, the Zoroastrians. The Persians were defeated, but both the Eastern Roman/Greeks and the Persian empires were both exhausted. Then the armies of Islam went forth and defeated and conquered Persia and almost defeated the Eastern Roman Empire, but only was able to conquer much Roman territory instead.

I think those German Barbarians wanted to be Romans, but the Eastern Roman Empire sent a bunch of armies to try and take back the Western half of the Roman Empire from the barbarians. Also, the Romans, the real Romans didn't like the barbarians.

Pretty fucking much. It'll ruin the film.

Yeah I know thats what happened but this only shows that the melting pot isn’t effective when the a specific group of people want you dead instead.

>Growing up, I didn’t have a super hero that looked like me
Lie

Attached: japanese-spiderman-1120120.jpg (640x336, 38K)

But, he's racialised as "Asian" in America.

Why not cast Asian-Americans in the roles of Asian characters? Also, some Asian films actually cast Western actors like in The Host (it had a White American soldier try to help kill the monster as well as some villainous white guy telling an Asian to dump formaldehyde into the sink/drain) or the Godzilla vs. MechaGhidorah movie. Oh crap, I was wrong, it was the Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah film, I got the title wrong, anyway, it had a cyborg or android who was a white guy.

*Hugs*

Lost my Nan to cancer. Shit sucks.

I wanted to read about batman and spiderman, not about me.

Then he’s got one culture group that has a shit ton of heroes. Without googling I can name 5. That’s how culturally important his heroes are.

The melting pots of Ancient Rome and Persian and Medieval Constantinople and Ctesiphon worked. They lasted hundreds of years, but eventually the Empires got defeated.

Are they Asian-American, though?

>a super hero
>that looked like
Because isn't full of shonen shit with superheroes

I kinda look like Jaime Reyes but that’s about it.

i had mucha lucha

Honestly if there were more positive queer characters when I was a kid I’d probably have realized I’m gay a lot earlier, probably woulda helped with all the catholic guilt I felt too

I'm east asian, so yeah.

>America is the only place expected to take the whole world into account
By w*sternized am*ricans of X heritage. Which begs the question, why are people talking about multiculturalism here? Theres nothing multicultural about any of this, its just muh heritage from some kinda yellow burger

>Do you have a super hero that looks like you, Yea Forums?
this

Attached: 2011-02-17 - Superlopez_thumb[1].jpg (339x484, 94K)

No he'll have to settle for one of the dozens of black heroes

I had Jake Long
He was funny at first but as I grew older the whole higger tendencies made me cringe

Its a common tactic to blame all of america for sjw and their political agendas

>Catholic guilt
>Catholic
You're gay by default son

Yes because you can only add so much to the melting pot before it gets full and cracks under its own weight. It takes damn near 100 years to successfully assimilate a group and that’s hoping it goes without a hitch.
But when you try to add more than you can handle you destroy your own country, rendering all your successes moot just like the Romans and Persians. Everything in moderation.

Don't blame everyone else for your problems nigga

Germanics actually flipped against the empire after being considered second class citizens and used as paws without promised pay.

The fuck does that matter a hero is supposed to surpass cultural differences. If a man saves 100 lives with nothing but a Swiss Army knife you’re not thinking
>oh boy I hope it’s a white man
You’re thinking
>that’s pretty badass

> >oh boy I hope it’s a white man
Sounds like CNN when they here about a terrorist attack

I want my representation.
Non-offending pedophile superhero when?
>Growing up, I didn’t have a super hero that looked like me
What about the guy you are making a fucking movie about?

white guys
>who cares if hollywood portrays your race?

also white guys
>WHAT THE FUCK WHY IS HOLLYWOOD ERASING WHITE GUYS???

Attached: sunny.jpg (264x240, 14K)

It reminds me of businessmen who put idiotic kids among adult characters, thinking kids would love them. Fucking hated that shit.

They flipped because like every other cultural rebellion in existence once they were past the walls and borders they realized how easy it was to conquer everything instead. Seriously it’s not just Rome, Persia and China all went through this shit.
You think the Romans didn’t treat their own people like shit by withholding pay? Hell Caesar was famous for it, fucker had enough iou’s to bankrupt a bank several times over and consistently didn’t pay his own soldiers.

> I demand that white people put my people in their movies instead of their own kind
>only white people have to do it though, I want my Black Panther movie to remain diverse and fully black after all

why do you care

Ah yes, because as we all know white guys are just actually one person and not a group of millions with varying opinions and thoughts.
It's also not like there could be other races saying that it doesn't matter what race a hero is, it's all just white people.

why do they ? .......

>be treated unfairly
>lol why do you care?

Does this fucker know of Tokusatsu? It's was always big in China and Korea. Is he an American Asian dude? Then why didn't he seek out his culture? It has been properly subbed for years.

Attached: reply.jpg (407x324, 19K)

Not anymore they keep race bending all the gingers and I'm a skinny nerd with glasses anyways

Why does a white person care about replacing white people in things white people create?
Maybe if the other races practiced what they preach I wouldnt be annoyed

why do you care white people show up less in hollywood, it shouldn't matter right?

Wow what a loser there were great martial arts movies, super sentai and kamen rider and anime

>treated unfairly
unfairly? it shouldn't matter. Caring about Hollywood representation is a liberal thing.

Why do you care?

When did I say it doesnt matter?
Nigga why are you trying to strawman

ok so Hollywood representation DOES matter, is this what you are stating? Otherwise, please elaborate.

Also every shonen anime ever.

Yea Forums, minus ponies of course

Because woke people are some of the worst kinds of people for assuming the world revolves around America. Moon language doesn't count.

Representation isnt tje issue, the issue is changing the race of characters for political reasons.
People who do this dont actually care about represention, its a political move.
But please tell us how people are unable to empathize with people who look different from themselves

It's all BS they just want to pander to China to make billions

I'm black, nearly autistic, with a twink build. If I do get any reprensentation I won't wanna watch it because it's feel too close to home.

We care because they care

Ya hear that buddy? He thinks white people are oppressed because there are brown superheroes sometimes!

Attached: johnny2x4.png (540x407, 401K)

What political goals is Disney hoping to achieve by doing things like making Nick Fury black?

I meant the 1966 series.

I guess static shock works for you in that regard?

The new Blue Ranger would rep you, I guess.

Don’t forget stuff like Johnny Sokko, Space Giants, Astro Boy, and Starblazers. USA got some good Toku and early anime stuff imported in the 70s and 80s.

>Do you have a super hero that looks like you, Yea Forums?
Yes

Attached: 1399416-bueno[1].jpg (904x573, 244K)

It most likely is. I'm Filipino and I fucking love Cyclops. I didn't give a shit that he "didn't look like me". What kind of insane criteria is that?

>breaking stereotypes
>asian superhero who does martial arts and wears trafitional chinese inspired outfits

hmmm

This.

That Asian can...what ?

Imagine being only able to relate to someone if they only share a similar outward appearance towards you. I'd only be able to relate to Shrek

Asian males are not a protected class. You are not black, or brown, or anything that would entitle you to claim a POC experience in America. Your own women despise and belittle you even as they prance around flaunting progressive credentials and claiming minority status while basking in attention from thirsty weeaboo virgins. They openly exhibit this preference in front of you.

No one likes you or is going to stick up for you. Not even Progressives will take up your cause. You are nothing but an effeminate joke to them at worst, at best you are invisible. Only the Asian American female experience is of any relevance.

Attached: 1557434055324.jpg (818x1280, 160K)

I'm black and although i admit that having someone be similar to me does get the clicks, i could careless about the race of a character. of they well written it's fine by me which is why this form of logic is so fucking dumb.

Gook here. Did anyone give a shit about the skin color of there self insert when they were younger?

>Asian
>crying about lack of representation

Since fucking when

>There were never any Asian superheroes, says man adapting an Asian superhero that has existed since 1973

>media filled with nothing but white skinnedrepresentation
>hurr why does it matter if someone in media looks like you

t.literally every white person in this thread

Attached: 1541734716968.png (912x580, 292K)

>hurr why does it matter if someone in media looks like you
Well, why does it? Being white never stopped me from enjoying the Static Shock cartoon or literally anything with a non-white lead.

I'm actually struggling to think of Hispanic Marvel and DC heroes other than Jaime Reyes before the 2010s.

>I didn’t have a super hero that looked like mystery meat
Checks out

since he was given a speech prepared by the marvel studios PR department

But seriously, what Asian superhero movies did people have in the mainstream? Or Asian protags in general? I can't remember any in particular.

Everything Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li worked on.

If everyone just magdumped these people in Minecraft it would all be okay.

>Well, why does it?
Because it has actually been shown that yes, seeing people that look like you does help with a child's self esteem. The logic behind it being that, while children don't externally express their differences, they do notice that if they live in a minority or majority population, they do notice any differences that they have to everyone else, because everyone is an insecure little shit on the inside. It is not as bad as what happens with the gays, but it is a thing.

That being said, I still find what he said to be dumb. It is part of a narrative that people are trying to push where rather than being about how "I want more people that look like me" the narrative is being pushed as "there were never people that looked like me" to make every fucking character a revolutionary take

None of these dudes are super heroes, and the fact that you can only name martial art dudes is a big giveaway that Cretton is right about representation in cape media

Cretton isn’t even Asian and has no right to be speaking for Asians.

Well, there is Keanu Reeves who is half Asian, however, he passes as white and plays characters usually as white Americans. Has he done any indie films where he plays a biracial character, like a character who is Asian-American who happens to be a hapa?

Since Iron Fist

How about Danyael from The Prophecy 2? Does he count? He's an angel fighting against evil angels and he gets a human woman pregnant who gives birth to a Nephilim.

>How about Danyael from The Prophecy 2?
What the fuck is that Olympic level pull right there?

>mainstream Asian protags
Japanese and Asian media in general

>be ginger
>have loads of heroes like me
>literal minority
>less gingers than any other races
>2% of the worlds population
>asians make up 60% of the world's population
>constantly have non gingers cast as gingers
>constantly erase people of coloured hair from movies

He isn't half-Asian.
He just has a little Asian ancestry on his dad's side.

They're better than superheroes, they're real life people young Asian kids can aspire to be, and actually succeed. Also, Shang-Chi's also a martial arts dude too so the world refuses to change.

If they actually knew about and cared as much as they say they do about ethnic Asian culture then it wouldn’t matter if they had that suffix -American added onto the end or not, thus proving they’re really just larpers in constant confusion and butthurt over their own identity, the same thing as Chicanos more or less.
t. slav german mutt
If anything they would be a much better example of representation as they’re actually fucking real instead of just another piece of capeshit.

I really didn't have a problem with superheroes not being the same race as me because most of the time their race had nothing to do with their fights, struggles, or accomplishments.

>Growing up, I didn’t have a super hero that looked like me
You fucks had ALL of manga / anime, how the hell could you think there is not a single asian super-hero growing up?

Anime and manga characters look white most of the time.

Well, The Prophecy movies are more like horror movies, but they do have some fights between the angels trying to kill each other with their short swords slashing at each other to weaken them and then rip out their hearts which is the only way to kill the angel. The angels also have supernatural abilities like putting people to sleep or setting them on fire.

Also, how about Mark Dacascos in Double Dragon. Like half of that medallion thing gives people superpowers.

I think he is talking about Asian superheroes in American media.

Oh.

why does it matter what a person looks like? aren't we all equal?

>I need a superhero that looks like me
Why is this a thing now? I watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Gargoyles and Darkwing Duck and I didn't need anyone to look like me.

Attached: 1546486826607[1].gif (181x165, 24K)

Don't forget shows like Thomas the Tank engine. I didn't grow up demanding humans ride the rails with the fat controller inside of them.

The turtle, gargoyle, and duck audience begs to differ.

I don't know, Thomas sorta made me wish I was a train when I was little.

it's a sales gimmick

Well, fuck them. They probably watched Batman, Bobby's World, and Rugrats, the damn hypocrites.

>Eastern half of the Roman Empire
You mean the part that got destroyed by muslims to the point the balkans are still a shithole to this day?

This. My identifying with a character depends on that character's ideals, struggles, and attitude. It has nothing to do with the characters skin color or gender. A lot of the time I even find the robots, fantasy creatures, or aliens in a story to be more relatable than the humans.

Only a complete narcissist needs to have a character be visually similar to them to feel represented.

Who do you identify with?

can you Yea Forums niggers just stick to your own fucking board

When I create characters that look white like me because I too want characters that are like me, pieces of shit like this dude whine and cry NAZI! WHITE SUPREMACIST! RACIIIIIIIIISM!!

Hypocrite pieces of shit.

How white will his love interest be?

>Only a complete narcissist needs to have a character be visually similar to them to feel represented.
Or, you know, a child.
Remember, children? The primary audience of superheroes? The ones who usually tell the black kid, "You can't play Superman, you have to play the boring Green Lantern"?
Fucking ideals and struggles, jesus, kids don't even have the fucking cognitive capacity to think that deep and you're talking about abstractions like they just fall out your ass, christ.

You grew up in a single mother household, she wanted your ass out there working to pay her bills

I am a blond guy with blue eyes from Austria. They wouldnt dare to make on in my case.

>"You can't play Superman, you have to play the boring Green Lantern"?
Kids don't say this. Maybe you were bullied as a kid.

If you think kids need someone of the same race to humanise with, then basically you're saying that everything should be reduced to skin colour.

>hey kids, you can only connect with someone if they are your race!

>The ones who usually tell the black kid, "You can't play Superman, you have to play the boring Green Lantern"?
Are you fucking retarded?

Kids have much more of an imagination than you think.

As a non-white i always find it funny when people here get mad about black or whatever color characters saying "ITS GONNA FAIL CAUSE I CAN'T IDENTIFY WITH THE CHARACTER" when people like me and millions other have been identifying with white characters for years now

How many kids of a different race did you grow up with?

Have you really? I don't think you have. You hate white people.

I am mixed race. And grew up with a lot of kids of a different race.

think whatever helps you justify this being part of a stupid culture war I don't really give a shit

I always fi d these kinds of posts hilarious when fir the last decade it's been beaten into my head that the characters need to be made black or whatever so that all those nonwhites can finally identify with them.

>>Growing up, I didn’t have a super hero that looked like me

And neither did I, yet it never stopped me from enjoying, or sympathizing with, Superman, Batman, Spider-Man and all other popular, white American superheroes. Fuck that patronizing “you can only enjoy them if they look just like you” modern philosophy.

You're completely misrepresenting what people are saying.

The issue has always been that non-white people are saying they can't connect with white characters and need more representation despite the fact that they live in white majority populations.

Typically I tend to identify with the grumpy/stern but gentle archetypes like The Ancient One from Doctor Strange, Doctor McCoy from Star Trek, Shepard Book from Firefly, or Ratchet from Transformers Prime.

I live in London. So A LOT.

Diversity for the sake of diversity is stupid I agree. While I would love for more Colombian Heroes I'm not gonna get upset about it if it doesn't happen. From personal experience the only people that care enough to fight for this kinda stuff seems to be rich white kids with too much time on there hands

>Growing up, I didn’t have a super hero that looked like me
How about Shang-Fucking-Chi? How old does he think this IP is?

Y'know. It's funny. Growing up I always identified with non white characters despite being white myself. Winston, BA Baracus, Sub Zero. But now I'm inundated with bullshit like this, and it's being perpetuated by the same people working to lessen "white male representation" in media to pretty much just villain roles, which makes it seem like it says something about how important they view representation and what they want people who look like me to represent.

Bullshit. More than half of the media aimed at kids is based some sort of anthropomorphic animal/object/monster and kids have no problem relating to any of those characters.

Nobody looks like a giant fucking turtle, but tons of kids had no problem relating to Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Leonardo, and the vast majority related to them over the human characters.

asians should go back to where they came from

Reminder that it doesn't even matter if you ignore bait threads as the /pol/ tards come in twos or threes ready to send false flag replies as the otherside in order to feint an argument just to wait for someone else to join in

>it is all /pol/
It really isn't. People like you flame as much as they do. If not more.

It is though everything I don't like REALLY is /pol/

Says a lot about white people, doesn't it?

Fuck superficial looks or other irrelevant factors like what they like in their bedroom. I say, where's the left handed heroes?

Not really more that no matter what side your on people will bitch about the stupidest shitb

Let's up real. Who the FUCK amongst the general populous knew let a lone cared about Shang-Chi??! The reason why AAs went apeshit over Danny, is because Shang is a 'Literal Who?' to them.

Shhh, they have to lazily market the movie somehow.

So we should just let him be smug about having been ignorant?

Those are cool properties. But, I'm certain he's referring to characters that are ethnically Asian, but culturally American or at least Western. Which is what Shang-Chi now is.

Hopefully now AAs will bat for him, and leave Danny the fuck alone. But, doubt.jpg

No one, but he existed. For him to act like this is a new hero, or to act like anyone will care now when they haven't for like four decades is kind of dumb.
He shouldn't just get to halfway claim he's coming out with a revolutionary story, halfway sort of bitch about how that he had no representation when the vehicle he's using has been around for THAT long. The character is older than he is by a couple of years FFS.

I guess that's your parents fault for removing your culture in favor of integration. My Taiwanese friend watches a shitload of chinese based drama and media. And also a lot of LNs so I guess his tastes are shit but at least he's not blaming american culture on this shit.

What a load. As a suburban white kid, my heroes were Sub-Zero and Apollo Creed.

Also what the fuck is he even talking about? He grew up in the '80s back when ninja were extremely fashionable.

He doesn't come across that way for me, and as I'm aware wasn't apart of the drama. He's glad he gets to tell an Asian-American story on the big screen, with a multiple million dollar budget and as a superhero no less. What's the big deal. Let Asians have their 'Black Panther'.

Shang Chi wasn't an asian-american and if actual chinese actually cared about an american property they would hate this. Asian-americans who can't speak their native language are basically foreigners.

Let asian-americans be happy then

>Let Asians have their 'Black Panther'.
If they let me keep Snake Eyes, sure. But at this point, fuck 'em.

user, this won't make them happy. They basically decided to either reject their native culture or their parents decided they didn't need it. Either way, they're in a miserable position where a movie won't change their lack of identity. The ones who are comfortable with being asian american don't care about a stupid pointless movie.

yeah that makes sense, because heroes are random losers who work for disney

that's what people come to tales of adventure for

Like when they put humans in Transformer movies when people just want to see giant robots fight other giant robots and have giant robots drama with each other.

Shang-Chi the character has been around from the 70's as a half Chinese hapa with the ultimate 'Yellow Peril' villain as his father.
In Hollywood there's been two mainstream feature films that centred on Asian-American characters and their experiences, one that appeared within this decade .The last twenty five years ago. This is why making Shang a full-blooded Chinese-American is a big deal to a lot of people, especially Asian-American men. Not wanting to understand this context is being very tone death.

Well, by casting a Canadian. He is now.

Which, probably explains why the Chinese now have it out for him...

I'm basically Jewish Jason Bateman, so no not really. Maybe spider-man if you really stretch but I'm way too stocky.

Not like that ever really bothered me. I don't need someone to look like me to empathize with them

A character that I could identify with would never be interesting in a comic.

I fear backlash the size of AAIronFist is something producers now want to be weary of. If they didn't want him white, to keep why Stormshadow hates him why couldn't he be Native, Latino, Black, Polynesian? I guess they'll just have to explain it another way.

Even if the race thing was an issue, an American kid of Japanese background growing up in the 1980s would've had no problem finding cool heroes.

Attached: Ninja The Sho Kosugi Story.png (414x579, 350K)

No, I'm from a Latin American country that's not Mexico or Brazil, so I never will.
And it doesn't matter, because I'm not a sociopath. I can empathize with character traits, personality and situations, and look beyond superficial similarities and labels.

Peru?

>Do people really go "Oh wow, this disney princess has my same hair color. I'm SO like her!"?

Holy shit you have no idea. If people didnt' do this then disney princesses would barely have any staying power.

You can’t be a hapa if your father is Chinese. If your father is Chinese, you are Chinese.

>listening to racial politics on social media is something valuable, i'm telling you! i didn't waste my time!

Bruh, as an Iron Fist fan. It's something I'm been forced to deal with for nearly five years. Even though half of the reason they hate him and wanted Danny Asian are false, it got me to see why Asian-Americans were so angry. And, it comes down to lack of rep. If Shang-Chi and other Asian (male) rep was already available in American media, I wouldn't have the need to defend Danny.

But, surely if you are half Chinese and half something else, it means you're /not/ full Chinese?

To be fair, Sho Kosugi often played villains or second fiddle to white heroes. He made some movies as the lead though. The cool Asian heroes were on Asian flicks and they were available on burgerland but massa Disney is rewriting history, again

What this guy said.

Revenge of the Ninja and Ninja 3 he was the hero, despite lack of screentime in 3. And then all the movies he went on to produce himself.

*/Fistbump*/

Being a Danny fan is suffering.

Yeah. And like you said, it's because they choose to ignore the characters that actually fit what they want. It's the same with Snake Eyes. Everyone would rather portray Storm Shadow as a villain and change Snake than keep him the same and portray Storm Shadow as a fellow bad ass

I didn't say that Kosugi was never the hero though

You guys chimp out whenever there's a nonwhite anything so I dunno man.

I guesss, it's because it seems like a played out narrative of the white outsider=good, Asian Native= bad. (People like to bring up Danny/Davos, but I think that can be done in a not so obviously offensive way.) And, that's what rubs people the wrong way. Once again, they could have just SE any other race than white, if it really bothered them. Now, it just seems like because of the backlash around Danny white martial artists are persona non grata.

THAT'S SHANG CHI?!?!

OH NO NO NO!!! That chi-gger is ugly AF!!! balahahah!!! Marvel's next phase is gonna be a DC level shitshow!

Attached: 1582914824.jpg (3000x2281, 782K)

Yeah, this is the thing. Non-white can and frequently do love white heroes, but the /suggestion/ that a hero could be /actually/ non-white is what throws a lot of people into a tizzy. So, it just feels very one-sided.

That's the director, you fucknut.

huh?

Attached: Takuya-Yamashiro.jpg (600x557, 68K)

>Danny white martial artists are persona non grata.

Therefore, all martial artists should be Asian.

>Japanese, not Japanese-American

I've said it before, I'll say it again, the moment "Dances With Wolves" started getting used against fiction like a slur we should have realized there was going to be a problem.

It's not like Hollywood stopped with that crap though

So it's okay for this guy to bitch about lack of "representation"(and it's way more than just him) but not for whites?

Yeah but other than Avatar most of them were flops.

Hell things that *weren't even that at all* got called that. Great Wall was unironically a good ass movie but it had two white guys come over from Europe in it so the screaming never ended.

I'm at a loss here. Representation is great, but where are white fans lacking in seeing white superheroes? All the main ones are Caucasian. It's not like white people have to put all their hopes and wish-fulfilment on one or two characters.

The Last Samurai made a decent return (even it got a cult following on Yea Forums for wish-fulfillment) and Tarantino got away with shitting over Bruce fucking Lee on Once Upon a Time on Hollywood with a mighty whitey putting an uppity chink on his place

Really, that's where you're gonna go? "What about the whites?" Christ, please fucking tell me how the hell are whites not "represented?"

charismatically, they are

Are least they did a lot of their stunts

>Looked

I look pretty much like Animated Series Static Shock. Just chunkier.

Why wouldn’t I care?

Well, seeing as they've mostly all been sidelined or replaced or made into secret nazis over the last decade, and their movie presence is leaving(and that's a good thing!) go fuck yourself.

If he only just started to give a fuck about the character when a paycheck was attached to him but didn't care about him years ago and outright wants to pretend Shang-Chi simply didn't exist in the years he was growing up, then fuck him. It's that simple. Could the IP use some work to appeal more to modern sensibilities compared to when he debuted? Certainly, but that doesn't give this dude license to act like he created the motherfucker and just ignore history.

What is
>Spider-man
>Thor
>Captain Marvel
>Doctor Strange
>Starlord
>Antman
but sure, they're all being sidelined, replaced and made into secret nazis

Ok, but is there ANY professional director who gave a shit about Shang-Chi?

>Spider-man
Dating an SJW
>Thor
Is about to get cucked both hammer and woman in new movie
>Captain Marvel
Is a SJW woman
>Doctor Strange
I'm sure Clea will introduce some WOMEN CAN DO MAGIC TOO
>Star-Lord
Is made out to be an idiot and dumbass whose carried by Gamora ( a black actress)
>Ant-man
See above but only with Wasp

Maybe, maybe not. If not, they could at least do us the courtesy of not pretending like the character didn't exist before them and propagating some kind of a weird narrative that he didn't exist for some kind of clout.

Sony
Replaced by Jane
Was femwashed and Carol
Token
Buffoon shit
No movie on the horizon

You know what really piss me off? Disney is going to use the entire media for presenting itself as the savior of yellow people but the Shang-Chi movie will be another cookie-cutter Marvel turd that will be praised by all the critics and the internet as revolutionary and the fight coreographies as one of the best evet recorded.

It's so much bullshit and a complete lack of respect for great performers that gave everything. Fucking burgers and their exceptionalism.

He says, posting some 99.9% ASIAN manga.
Watch some Nigerian television if whitey offends you so much. You'd never see another one in your life if you didn't want to.
Oh what's that? You don't actually identify with people of your race that live in another country? Then fuck off.

It’s almost as if the suits don’t give a shit about their product and want people to become slaves to their identity for money.

I'm not going to blame him for that. Shang was on the page, but not on the screen and he is a director after all. And, it's HE who gets to helm Shang's first rodeo. You're acting like he hated every white character until this and participated in knocking Danny down. I'm not gonna crucify a guy for not knowing an obscure character. For all characters we now love, there was once a time when we were even unaware of their name. As long as he does his research and uses Shang-Chi to tell a good narrative (will giving males of his ethnicity wish-fulfilment) then I don't see an issue.

Well yeah but at least for now I can still complain on a Taiwanese cartoon board. In a couple of years it'll count as hate speech

You seem mad and I can't help you.

You're right. I mean, how many movies came out in the 90's and early 2000's where Jackie Chan or Jet Li came to America and solved a bunch of problems?
It's almost like there's some cultural thing about outsiders fixing things.

>Bitching about women and minorities

Yeah, this is when I can ignore you.

This argument is so hard to feel strongly one way or the other on. On one hand, yeah child me would've dug it if more characters were black like me. On the other hand I hate when someone's black just for blackness sake or they make being black the center of their character. On the other hand I don't buy into all the people that get pissed about more black people or when a character is changed in that way. I mean lots of characters get different reinterpretations between versions, especially in comics, so that element is fine by me. On the other hand I also feel like if you're free to do one then you can be free to do it any other way too. Though if it's a character who's race is very central to their character I can see why that wouldn't work.
tl;dr The issue with different races in media can't stand on its own because it's just a symptom of discourse between races in general. You can't have a stance on it without people conflating it with your stance on race politics.

I'm not gonna lie, I dont even play video games unless there's a character creator or unseen/silent protagonist because all this shit is escapism for me.

Jackie Chan became a neutered clown for the American market while he usually played a lovable rogue on his HK movies. Also he usually was the second lead for a westerner actor. Jet Li was treated better in the west but his movies had a lower budget and distribution

>Asian American representation is pretty limited in American media
>White people itt: BUT WHAT ABOUT *only lists martial art movies*
People know that asian heroes being pegged only into martial art roles is just as problematic right?

It's the opposite for me. The silent protagonist is too damn creepy and I can't get invested in the story

Attached: 1557201673370.png (630x662, 549K)

But no one like Chris Tucker and Owen Wilson.

>"I want more people that look like me" the narrative is being pushed as "there were never people that looked like me" to make every fucking character a revolutionary take

Sigh. Yeah. Fan of more non-white actors, writers and directors getting work. Not a fan of everyone either hailing work as the next coming of Jesus that cured racism and misogyny combined and then on the other hand people ripping into said movie/show as propaganda, because those said people hail it as the next coming. I just want things that feature minority casts to just /be/.

youre both pathetic

You're right but Shang-Chi is another chinese stereotype. Well, still my biggest gripe is

I more mean like Doom Guy. If its JRPGs, I hate voice acting though. If I can't rename Cloud as myself it's SHIT!

Pokemon Sun and Moon was fucking weird where the trainer has this painted on smile while a noted criminal is threatening to smash their face in.

Say that to the Hollywood execs. Also Chris Tucker earned almost the double of Jackie Chan's salary for Rush Hour 3

not anymore

This disgusts me. Especially with how waning his career was by the time of RH3.

Basically this. I like more races represented but I'm sick of everyone getting all excited like something is suddenly GOOD because it has different races. It's annoying that everyone's up in arms about Black Panther because it's got black people even though it's just another part of the MCU. Once this shit (and gays) in stuff stop sucking their dicks over how progressive they are, I might be able to stop cringing enough to enjoy it for what it is.

What the fuck? Nobody goes to see those movies based off of Chris Tucker, he wasn't even in any films for years. How the hell did he get a higher salary than Jackie Chan???

>On the other hand I hate when someone's black just for blackness sake or they make being black the center of their character.

Agree with this. However, since 'whiteness' is the default. To have a non-white character people feel as though you need to 'justify' it in some way for it to be acceptable, but still, It's an issue for some people...
Look the first black lead characters created by Marvel. Luke Cage and Black Panther. Now, I think if you changed their race, it would change them, too.

im not white and i still don't think it matters

Is Asian-American, now. He's father is the Mandarin, now. Who knows what else Marvel would change?

Tell me something I dont already know.

The guy we predicted the housing crisis, predicts that Gamestop will manage to make money for the next console generation thats why he invested into the company.
But just this week Gamestop is going to close 200 shops

Shang-Chi was being published before he was even born. That is such a disingenuous corporate PR thing to say.

I'm come to the conclusion the only way to stop the 'woke' crowd from wanking themselves into oblivion. Is to create MORE content with minorities, so it's no longer a special event they need to defend and promote and claim it's creating movements with and putting pleasure on the cast and crew based on people expectations from them rushing out think-pieces. Very unpopular option, I know. The crowd that thinks white men are being erased in media will continue to tear said cast and crew down and now think of it in terms of all the different stories they'll get to enjoy now.

But, in order for things to /be/, there has to be more content by minorities.

Static and I’ve been waiting for years for DC to push him like he’s Harper Row

*not think

Huh.
>But just this week Gamestop is going to close 200 shops
IF THIS MEANS I CANT GET MY MOVIE SHREDDER, SPLINTER, AND FOOT SOLDIERS-

I'm sure he's talking about Asian-American figures in American media.

for source and proof

Iron Fist doesn't even begin to enter into my post. The bottom line from me is that he doesn't get to act like the character didn't exist before he came around and decided to make a movie.

>Who the FUCK amongst the general populous knew let a lone cared about Shang-Chi??!

Gen Xers, because Master of Kung Fu was a kino comic

>ugly
>narrow shoulders
>long torso with short legs
No.

I never got the impression he was referring to Shang specifically, but Asian-American figures in American media. Before this Shang's never had a movie adaptation and in the comics he is not explicitly Asian-American.

He said "looked like me" as in "asian". Stop being a Disney apologist, you literal fucking faggot.

>However, since 'whiteness' is the default.
I think that's the big issue. When it comes to race everything is "white" by default and then black or asian, or girl or gay or whatever is like...a character quirk. It's like how someone will say "there's a guy over there" if they're white vs. " oh yeah there's a black guy over there". That's just the general consensus. Like you don't have to be race baiting to write a black character anymore than a white character. They're just fucking people, man. I see like 40 of them a day working at a Wendy's.

>That's having his very first adaptation

Has Shang been in ANY western media, outside of comics?

Maybe I'm reading into it too literally but he says that he had no superheroes growing up and that he's going to give one to the children of the present.

You know what it was short-hand for. Stop being stupid.

I think he was in one mobile game

>Like you don't have to be race baiting to write a black character anymore than a white character.
You kinda do.
The thing about whiteness being the default is that you end up with people going "why's he HAVE to be black though".
That's why Black characters are almost all Luke Cages and Black Panthers where it's such a core part of their character that they can't be anything else. It's why all the asians are martial artists or mathematicians, and even then you have Danny Rand and people on this board going "okay but why can't the cast of avatar be white?" now. It's why Miles Morales is such a goddamn stretch for people.
That's just how it is.

Tbf, if we are talking Superheroes specific (that can be the lead in their own franchise) who can we name that's Asian-American? The only one I can think of is Shang, and even then the character originally wasn't American.

Cassandra Cain, and even then she's half white.

only one i need

There's got to be some X-Men we could give the spotlight to

I know that. You know that, but a lot of people (I mean look where we're posting) simply don't register black people, Asians, women as being fully-fledged 3-Dimenional people. It's unfortunately, but I guess it just does to show why representation of people from different walks of life is actually pretty important. It humanises them, so they aren't caricatures or plot devices for the white male protagonists, and their lives are of less significance.

You know very well he meant asian and only asian and nothing else. You are literally doing mental gymnastics to do damage control for a corporation on the internet.

>There's got to be some X-Men we could give the spotlight to
And then what?
Giving spotlight to other characters just gets you guys like There's no winning this game.

I think most people, even here, want that and the "problem" only comes when their favorite white male etc character is axed or changed to make room for said character. I think the fact that she doesn't "step on anyone's toes" is why Kamala is mostly popular when people flip their shit over like Miles. And let's be honest here, a lot of them are mad when their faces get replaced with different white guys too.

Western countries are majority white. Their media represents that. Their media is dominant so they export movies and culture. Now people are more socially aware and there is a global economy they want to market towards different countries. There is nothing wrong with that.

The trouble with all this is that dismantling characters, bad writing and baiting are causing drama. Half the problem with these new characters or legacy characters aren't that they are a different race, but that the writing is god awful and revolves around it. It becomes the key selling point. Something being political is fine, bad politicised writing is not. And most of the time the things people are complaining about are badly written and being forced. Media blitzes and blogging sites telling us how important x character is without actually seeing the worth of their stories or art. (American Chavez book was really badly written but it was shouted about because of the diverse aspect.)

It also seems to me that the majority of people clamouring for this diversity are Americans. Chinese aren't clamouring for a Chinese Marvel movie. Asian Americans are. People think that diversity will somehow break us free of shackles but the diversity they talk about is always American race relations which don't apply to most of the world.

Ultimately diversity isn't bringing us diverse and valued stories. It is bringing us more bad books marketed in a way to create controversy and hype. The fact that most people are fine with their race being used as a marketed tool, shows you how naive the average tumblr blogger or "journalist" is. People seem so eager to "have one for the team" that they forget to see if it is good or not. Until you have more great characters of different races the drama will just continue.

Rememeber when 'Craig of the Creek' came out? Why can't a black kid also like to go on adventures and be the lead in something, without it being 'propaganda pushing'? There's a good video on this.

FYI: I think Danny should be white as his narrative deals with implicit/explicit 'White Privilege', but the characters of avatar are coded Asian and First Nation people. Therefore, should be cast accordingly.
I find Miles kinda boring, but I get he's important to a lot of people so writers may be that 'careful' writing him, he can come across as bland. Enjoyed him in Spiderverse, though. Truly depends on the pen. The hate over him was ridiculous, though. I've noted the tempter starting to change and revisionist history is happening, in that Miles is fine, but Fuck RiRi. Until, the next minority character to get a hard push comes along, I guess.

>That's just how it is

And, it shouldn't have to be...

Close, Chile.

I think I do.
I think this is pretty much the same as when McDuffie was forced to put a whole thee black people on the Justice League and people here chimped out about white erasue and sidelining and made all those same points about how they're not racist they just don't like the agenda being shoved down their throat.
Fact is there is ALWAYS an excuse.

sun/moon is a sociopath with a bed fetish

Did this guy not read manga or watch Asian cinema?

>I'm racist because I want to still be able to read new stories about my favorite character
Whoah, buddy. And there's a huge difference there because those "sidelined" JL characters still had books while Wolverine was dead and buried for two years so we could be graced with the Adventures of OOC X-23.

She also takes the name of a senior hero, but it's of one Yea Forums doesn't like (after having outgrown the title).

I think it could be that way for some people, if I felt a character I liked getting the shaft for a new character that came out of fucking nowhere, I'd be a bit miffed. That can just be lip service, though. I even saw some people angry that Katana was getting a push over at DC, despite existing for a couple of decades and not taking a white guys name. It's like really? Some people just get upset over ANY non-white character getting the stop-light.

Yes or hes shilling for disney

Nice.

One day, user. One day.

>while Wolverine was dead and buried for two years
1. It's capeshit. If you're saying you honestly thought OG Wolverine was dead and gone forever then you're admitting to some hardcore stupidity.
2. We has Old Man Logan at the same time as X-23 as Wolverine so you STILL had a white guy in the role. The SAME white guy even.

Yeah. That's fucking stupid and clearly they have their own agenda if Katana getting a push is seen as sjw pandering. I mean, she's got muh back.
And it definitely helps that Carol outgrew the Ms Marvel name and still had all her own stuff going.

Growing up I loved Star Wars but I always felt somewhat left out as everyone but Lando was white. It wasn't a deal breaker, but having representation just enhances the immersion. Sure, there's the whole "feeling normal" thing and the warm fuzzies of acceptance, but whatever feelings I had growing up and loving it in the mid 90s got filed under "wouldn't it be nice" not some sort of "absolute must". I hate that clickbait gives people that impression.

Why should the rest of the world matter for this argument. Yeah we're talking strictly American series. No one's mad that anime/movies made in japan are 90% starring exclusively Japanese people, because of course they are. It's a specific American issue because America is billed as some melting pot of all different races. And yet for a large chunk of entertainment history characters of color were hardly ever featured in any noteworthy way. And due to the after affects of segregation it's not exactly like black owned media was getting popular in the cultural zeitgeist. However in recent years with more diverse casting and the internet it's a lot easier for different creators to create their ideas without all the hurdles. Of course now the other shoe's dropped and now the increasing focus on diversity has become obnoxious. It'll probably be a while before everything normalizes out and people stop making such a big deal out of this shit.

>I didn’t have a super hero that looked like me

>muh representation
I wish these faggots would shut the fuck up already.

Not the same at all. OML is very different from modern Logan. And even knowing death won't stick, it was still a real possibility it could go a Nova or Ghost Rider route where he takes on at best a supporting role, and at worst be relegated to a containment comic where he wallows in relative narrative obscurity.

Because not all characters from Anime are Asian? Even in Death Note Watari and L aren't Japanese. Yet all Japanese live action of that and Fullmetal Alchemist, for example? Japanese. They want Stitch? Well get rid of all those brown people. He's with a little Japanese girl now. But that's fine because ehh It's ok Japan doesn't have to be accurate the canon.

Meanwhile American media should be racially accurate, but cede white characters to fullfil some imaginary quota? Ok.

Every white character they made non-white in Didney Spider-man or Deadpool (or any number of things, but those two had the highest change count) could have been comic canon non-white characters or OCs. It's weird.

Why do they always say “looks like me” instead of “same race as me” (rhetorical question)

The Last Samurai was always good, Japan loved the *shit* out of it when it came out for depicting the "spirit" of the time period with juuuust enough of the actual history behind it to ground it.

These days though it's endless bitching about it being weeb Dances with Wolves because apparently learning to admire and become part of a culture alien to you because of a respect for its people and practices is racist.

Not that guy, but back the fuck off???!!

>it was still a real possibility
lol get the fuck outta here

I have no idea what you're trying to say? Can you reword it?

Speaking as a Chinaman, I don't really like most "Chinese" superheroes in Marvel or DC. They're generally caricatures of Chinese legends or wuxia. They're just Western-stereotypes of classical stories and characters, except each time they feel the need to put some "subversive" spin on it instead of respecting the source material, and at the same time they can't give them the same level of respect that Western heroes get in terms of having classically good or heroic stories.

If I were writing Chinese or Japanese superheroes, I'd do more to ground them in modern, real-world contexts or do some kind of Rip van Winkle plot so that the hero could call back to classical values that have been suppressed by the modern world.

Your hindsight bias is showing.

Because "looks like" is more all encompassing and vague. Saying "Asian looking" is weird because Indians and Russians are Asians and saying a specific Asian country representation is alienating.

Also, the fact that people hate Carol probably helps in that regard, too.

>Own agenda
Well, yeah, but nobody can mention that without being an 'SJW Shill'. They just wanna keep people in boxes and have anyone call them out or not add anyone that's not non-white for fear of backlash, but also:
I guess hate buying is still buying.

>They're generally caricatures of Chinese legends or wuxia
Mostly because Marvel in the 1970s was throwing shit at the wall hoping it would stick following every popular fad.

>Hey horror is popular...
>Tomb of Dracula, Werewolf by Night.
>Hey kung fu is popular.
>Shang-Chi

no ones talking about anime, he was talking about asian films of which there are thousands

Attached: yojimbo.jpg (767x1100, 127K)

And your lack of perspective is if you're gonna sit there and claim that Wolverine is on the same popularity tier as Nova or Ghost Rider.
The character that literally created the term "Wolverine Publicity" was gonna be sidelined forever? Sure pal. You're totally not just grasping at straws to claim to be oppressed.

Complaining that a super hero doesn't look like you enough and you remedy it by just casting someone the same race as you is the same as saying everyone of that particular race looks the same.

Attached: 1355777716626.png (339x319, 134K)

我的兄弟! Completely agree. All this clamoring for more "representation" is retarded because it only ever reinforces stereotypes and caricatures. If anything our misguided (or retarded) brethren should be pushing for less representation.

Or maybe you just want more Halloween and cosplay options.

>It'll probably be a while before everything normalizes out and people stop making such a big deal out of this shit.
it won't be normalised until it stops being marketed.

Most modern contrversy arises out of click bait, marketing, shitty online journalism. Everytime Marvel do something diverse it gets talked about a thousand times over like it is the dawning of something big. This is what people get sick of. Then it draws out all the racists and extremists.

It happened when Black Panther came out. People acted like there had never been a black film in cinema before.

Normalising is not just about representation, it is about not going crazy everytime it happens. Unfortunately, given how the online hype machine is so connected with marketing and baiting, this won't end soon.

Funnily enough. The diversity marketing is no different from every comic book event doing the same thing. This feeling that something big is coming and usually it is just another dumb blockbuster.

Well, when you see nearly every other character you love disappear that way, your spirit's bound to break. I mean, I'm not saying I'm not happy he's back, as he was, but when everyone was saying, as you yourself said, "You still had Old Man Logan, who was a white guy" like that's all there was and like he was the replacement, yeah. It seemed like the Logan I liked was gone forever.

It's not how it is if you actually go to a black majority country so if being in a white majority really does make you this upset then you should just go to a black one.

In the conversation chain he replied to it was a discussion about Anime being adapted for American audiences.

Then you're too busy tying to catch feelings to be objective. The fact is that Logan left for all of two years, had his daughter and an alternate version of himself running around, both of which SHOULD have been acceptable to you, especially given the obvious inevitability of his return,
I bet you believe that Bruce Wayne is gonna be gone for good and replaced by a black guy forever too, right? Because that's totally a thing that actually happens outside of your silly nightmares.

>it is about not going crazy everytime it happens.
The funny thing is that the media doesn't go that crazy about it, it's the cynical idiots who don't fucking read a thing, they just know that any excitement is too much excitement. An article can say "hey cool, black panther is a big budget Marvel superhero movie about a black man in Africa" and they will make videos and posts about "omg they think it's the first oh my god have they heard of BLANK MAN?!" There is zero thought put into the outrage, like what happened on Yea Forums and Cuphead, the claims that anyone is calling Gone Home the first female main character (they were autistically compiling lists of games with female protagonists), and other instances of mindless reflexive outrage.

And also the pushback against it magnifies it.
You get loud assholes going #WakandaIsn'tReal , of course it's gonna get loud assholes being loud assholes right back.

Still waiting on that Rich Rider or Danny Ketch ongoing. Sorry I care about something you find so silly.

Are they really loud assholes though? Calling idiotic people idiots isn't a "muh both sides" situation.

and all of those 70s characters turned out good

>Has nothing to do with anything relating to the character's race or the fact that a major multibillion dollar media corporation is pinning millions of dollars on his films being seen by as many people as possible
>Still white, just female
>Still white, just female
>Token? The fuck are you on about?
>Still the main lead of the movie and highly marketed character
> I will grant you that Ant-Man does not have a currently announced movie.

But really, see mainly point one.

Also, before you move the goal posts, you are the first person in this reply chain to bring up sex.

But there are articles that absolutely do say whatever character is the first of their kind that is wrong. Or actors that say they're glad to be the first (race/gender/sexuality/a combination of) to be in whatever franchise that are wrong. Yeah journalists aren't the same autists as fans, but it is their job to do the research so their readers don't have to. It undermines the characters/actors that came before them to be so wrong.

Shit like OP saying that because they weren't in a MCU™ movie they didn't feel represented isn't really about them not having an representation ever, it's about wanking off Disney for being so gracious as to give them a job.

I'll admit my own andro-normative bias made me assume we were talking about white men rather than white as a whole. That and the way a lot of media now seems to be "white chick and her minority friends."

How do you know that?

#
I'll admit my own andro-normative bias made me assume we were talking about white men rather than white as a whole. That and the way a lot of media now seems to be "white chick and her minority friends."

I am half-chinese and half-italian, I have almost quit reading comics half a dozen times because I cannot find any heroes I can connect to as they are not my particular mix of ethnicity.
When will comics give the half-chinese/half-italian community a hero we can relate to?

Would be a kino hero. I bet you look pretty boss.

>he thinks "wouldn't it be nice" is "I need this or I won't read"
Do you do this on purpose because being cynical gives you some sense of self worth or are you just dumb?

The worst thing is diversity always equals black/spic LGBTQAUN+ being oppressed by evil whiteys, and none of us other "minorities" are either background protesters supporting the revolution or lumped in with whitey as kard-karrying karicatures of 1960s racists.

I'm sure they've already done a pasta-based hero.

Are there any Lithuanian super heroes?

You sound like a faggot to mewhich is pretty LGBT desu

What a special snowflake you are.

>But there are articles that absolutely do say whatever character is the first
We had threads struggling to find people calling Black Panther "the first black super hero" and, if I recall correctly, all that turned up was an article talking about how it's important like Thriller. We pretty much rinsed and repeated for Captain Marvel. Most people default on "oh I'm sure it's out there" and "it feels like they're saying it".

Samurai Pizza Cats?

t. nigger

Maybe if Dick Rider had a movie he'd have more immunity. You're seeing a race issue where there is none; it's a popularity issue. You've convinced yourself those characters were "replaced" because they're white guys and not because they're D listers that are inherently more expendable to the genre, presumably because of that unwarratned chip on your shoulder.

I didn't say it's because they're white, but to say that white characters aren't disposed of is disingenuous. And there was the whole thing they tried with Hydra Cap until there was enough of an uproar.

The Last Samurai made well in Japan because the entire nation went full nationalistic at the turn of the millenium as a respond to the economical stagnation (it's pretty common for a nation in crisis to turn back and look fondly to a past that never existed). That's how Japan ended in a semi-fascistic state and deplaying its troops around all the SEA. The Last Samurai is orientalistic shit that reduce a very complicated time period into a cowboy vs indians crap. Protip: Samurais weren't noble savages or even the Japanese spirit because back then people didn't have a concept of Japan as a nation but they identify with their clans or province. The samurai myth is mostly an invention from Imperial Japan to exploit peasants and convince them to fight to the death

Attached: Katsumoto.jpg (1280x720, 100K)

You clearly sound like the one with the cip on their shoulder. You called the anom racist and have done nothing but denigrate their opinions when shown evidence that he just didn't like no longer getting to see his favorite characters.

Why are you so hate filled?

>The funny thing is that the media doesn't go that crazy about it

Attached: AnHeroRises.png (540x720, 338K)

I hear they're promoting this as some kind of cultural movie in black schools

>And there was the whole thing they tried with Hydra Cap until there was enough of an uproar.
>until there was enough of an uproar.
LMAO you thought Hydra Cap was going to stick?
That was going to last until the next movie at the latest.
I can't believe there are people on this board that haven't figured out that all these big shocking swerves are a scam. Are you from Yea Forums or underaged or both?

There were people unironically claiming to be Wakandan or thinking Wakanda was real at the time.

Germans aren't allowed to have superheroes. We're not allowed 'super-' anything, really.

Do you think Whitey will start to shout stuff like "Go back to Wakanda" instead of the usual "Go back to Africa" jeers?

>uncle bens death didn't stick
>gwen stacy's death and bastard kids didn't stick
>ms marvels rape didnt stick
>Are you from Yea Forums or underaged or both?
are you?

>that crazy
I understand the endless clickbait of it's importance; how does a movie about blacks do so well in China? There's something historical about it, but from a pop culture perspective, not a "racism is over" MLK2 kind of way.

Ah. So you are just an asshole. Okay, then. Have a good night. I hope you feel better about whatever's making you miserable gets better.

And they wonder why their the most laughed at race

Black Panther didn't do that well in China though. Also Disney was infamous for inflating the box office numbers with empty Chinese theaters before the commercial war started

>a company lying to make itself look good for investors
lies and slander user

The worst part? It was a perfectly adequate.

Not one of thrm got the white pussy tho

No because no white person who cared enough to notice thought Wakanda was real outside of maybe Tumblr.

i know this is hard to believe but not all asians want white pussy. Only the minority of white people are attractive.
you mean the asians in burgerland are spoiled, i appreciate my films just fine.

Every single poster here needs to cope, dilate and HAVE SEX.

I mean, do you think white people will use "Go back to Wakanda" as a jeer knowing that black people might see it as a compliment?

the poster above especially

>>uncle bens death didn't stick
Uncle Ben has shown up via magic and in AUs enough times that you could say it didn't.
>gwen stacy's death and bastard kids didn't stick
I mean...clones. Hell, people are complaining about an AU Gwen not being dead and replacing Peter somehow.
>ms marvels rape didn't stick
Did it or didn't it? Because it seems like they just ignore it and pretend it never happened half the time. I've got too much taste to be a Carolfag so I don't know.

The only time I see the "i can't identify with this person" thing is whenever the guy in porn isn't printer paper white.

Fuck this guy!
"I want a superhero who looks just like me" WELL TOO BAD!
Do you have ANY IDEA how long I've wanted a ginger superhero? These Asians have so much manga and anime to turn to. Yet we have NOTHING! And what's worse is that every existing ginger is being turned Black. Everytime it happens my heart breaks a little, knowing that we'll never get a redheaded superhero on the big screen. Sometimes it keeps me awake at night. Yet this MOTHERFUCKER thinks that everything should be about Asians and Blacks. It's JUST NOT RIGHT!!! And I will not rest until justice is served.

Attached: FUCK.jpg (768x426, 50K)

what about Jean Grey
I have hope for the GL Corps series that HBO might make. Guy Gardner finally back on TV

>Do you have ANY IDEA how long I've wanted a ginger superhero?
Since Guy Gardner?
Or Matt Murdock.

I want white pussy

>not all asians

Yeah but Iron Fist

shit man, I usually think the whole autism meme is overplayed but you sure do take things too literally
>are you just dumb?

>Actually giving his bait (you)s
Whew lad

Were they airing in the US?

Well fuck off some do

Any excuse to talk about my boy Guy Gardner

Not his fault Marvel has such shit representation

Yeah I loved that shit, it didn't need the girl, and it needed two more guys and I bet it could rival the ninja turtles

but not all of us are thirsty as you. get some self respect you whore.

If this is true then he's right

Thats like saying because you dont want chocolate no one else should want it fuck off

How much of that was on American shelves back then
And should all Asians just let all their media be from a country as distinct from them as Japan?
It's not like most if American media is British

So why is it a problem for you that he's making this

What's your race

>Things aren't fair for me so I need to drag down others
Nigger tier thinking

Didn't Jet Li play an Asian American in The One, which may also be a superhero film since he does gain superpowers?

Bruce Wayne because I'm an incredibly generic looking average bloke.
But no matter how much I work out I'll never look like Batman.

This is what Kamala is to me, never really cared about seeing myself in the characters. I grew up with the standard heroes, Justice League and all that, so not having a brown hero to identify with didn't bother me at all as long as I liked the character for their...character.

It wasn't until she came along that I read it and it was like seeing my own 1st gen immigrant family dynamics portrayed so accurately, hell, they even had the same pet names my parents used. It's at that point I was like "Oh shit, so that's what it feels like". Identifying with characters still isn't a huge deal, but it honestly felt great that there was someone out there who understood me, like I was being acknowledged. I will say this though, I'm really not a fan of white writers using her to push their politics like it shields them from criticism (kind of like how EA does with LGBT). Fuck off with that shit, just gimme a fun story with some fun characters.

What arrogance.

A) Rome wasn't a melting pot
B) even if it was, the "german barbarians" then that means the melting pot failed

>Medieval Constantinople
Bullshit. The turks and the brits were fighting over it for centuries.

Cultures don't mix peacefully.

Good, stay in your shithole. Muslims are cancer.

Because guilt only really works on white people. They've had centuries of guilt hammered into them. The other countries would, rightfully, tell them to fuck off.

South american here, I really liked spider-man, iron man and the power rangers as a kid but never thought "oh x character looks like me" Maybe harry potter when I began wearing glasses but by that point I couldn't give a shit about the franchise
I either hate or couldn't care less about any of these "latin american" heroes that marvel has been trying to push for the past few years (Mainly because they are mostly mexican or from some centro america shithole I know nothing about). In fact I can't think of any latin american heroes other than two of the ghost riders

German Barbarians didn't "Invade" The tribes that sacked Rome like the Goths and Visigoths were all members of the Roman Empire and were a majority of the late Roman Empire.

The issue that caused the great Germanic migrations was Rome ignoring the blight of said Germans who were facing invasion and a lack of resources from the Empire.

Rome collapsed because it thought it didn't need to pay German Soldiers the same as Roman soldiers despite promising them that.

outliers prove the rule

I'm a bean boi and I could care less about the skin colour of my favorite super heros.

Actually, you can check out Asian action movies from China or Hong Kong and you can watch those Italian Gialo horror movies or those American-Italian mobster movies. If you want your own Chinese-Italian superhero that you can relate to, you're going to have to make your own.

Really? I thought the Goths and Visigoths were migrating into the Roman Empire and doing a bunch of barbaric invasions until the Empire conceded and gave them some land. Don't forget, that centuries earlier, Germans didn't want to integrate or assimilate into the Roman Empire and even wiped out a couple of Roman legions during Octavius' rule. That may be one of the reasons why real Roman citizens may have hated the Germans.

Before the Turks conquered Constantinople, it was inhabited by mostly Greeks who had retaken the city back from Western Europeans who sacked and conquered it back in 1204 A.D./C.E. Before that, Constantinople was made up of mostly Greeks, Armenians, Slavs, Isaurians, people from around the Mediterranean and from the Middle East. It was kind of a cosmopolitan place.

i guess black panther, but i have never been that big into super heroes i got into more of anime and manga at a young age more than super heroes

You're from Marvel trying to promote her comic book, aren't you?

Because it pisses me off when characters in adaptations don't look like the origian. It bothered me in Street Fighter movie, it bothers me now.

Why was Goku a white guy in the live action Dragonball movie which had it's origins in Japanese Anime and manga, which was also adapted from Chinese mythology?

t. Morlun

As the director is Asia do you mind if he decides not to include whites? And don't bring up whoever pays for this cause at that point you might as well make the cast Chinese.

>Western countries are majority white
For now, just barely and trending downhill hard.

Tall, dark-haired white guy. Yes, I do.
Doesn't stop me enjoying Cap, though. Or Thor, or She-Hulk, or Rocket Raccoon.

Bueno

I'm pretty sure there was this guy in comics called SHANG-CHI, too.

I'm glad they made a hero I can relate too. Fuck your white American heroes.

I don't have huge muscles so no

Wrong.
Whites had no problem with non-white characters, until you retards made it into a political issue (or, rather, whoever programs you NPCs nowadays did)
Literally no one cared until you decided making it into a "White Men vs. Everyone Else" politics debate that you'll even hear actual politicians paying lip service to.
In that conflict, yes, we are very underrepresented. And when that ideological war spills over to pop culture, don't expect one side to just go "lol this is silly and obviously doesn't matter" when the other side is quick to remind them "THIS IS SERIOUS BUSINESS AND OBVIOULY DOES MATTER, BIGOT"

>write what you know
>Most people in media are (((white)))
Gee, I wonder why most things are Aimed at white people.

I don't hear spike Lee getting told to make more white characters.

Bruce Lee's wife is white

hasn't this guy ever seen a bruce lee or kung fu movie?

it reminds them of the gringo they dream they were born as.

>Are there any Scottish super heroes?
Banshee from X-men and his daughter

Now that you mention it, NONE of my heroes looked like me. All my heroes were people who I liked because they looked or did cool stuff.

But it would be off-topic on Yea Forums?

He's talking about someone popular, if he actually had to go look or actually gave a shit back then then yea he'd know about Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan even David Carradine.

But nah he never gave a fuck till he was at a point he could make a big deal out of it.

The Power Rangers are an intersting bunch (especially their Japanese counterpart) because most kids care about them less as their regular forms and more of their ranger forms, when the FACES ARE COVERED UP.

Wasn't Bruce Lee suppose to star in the Kung Fu television show, but they replaced him with David Carradine instead?

>Do people really go "Oh wow, this disney princess has my same hair color. I'm SO like her!"?
It has been scientifically proven that yes they do. Because they are developing children.

In the eyes of a child, the psychology is very loose, "Flock with birds of a feather" kind of deal. If you're a black kid and 99% of the TV you watch has white characters in it, you start to feel a bit awkward. You live in a neighborhood that is mostly black, but TV has very few blacks, and you feel this doesn't reflect reality. This was the case for a lot of pre-70's shows and why stuff like, "The first black family sitcom" was actually important.

Now-a-days, however, it's so hyper specific it's gotten out of fucking control. It's not enough that a character physically looks like you, people will complain that there aren't enough black and gay tranny characters who also have "black features" or some shit. When you hit the point where you think representation is failing because there aren't enough Muslim queer women in comics (Where there are probably about 50 of those people worldwide reading superhero shit), it's time to accept you won the diversity race and don't need to keep pushing so hard.

Most Kung Fu movies that involve unrealistic acrobatics like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Five Deadly Venoms, or even Kung Fu Hustle.

Goku has black hair and black eyes.

Honestly, I care more that these sleazy marketing tactics are being hailed as part of the progressive movement instead of berated for what they actually are: Big corporations trying to get you to buy shit. It's really fucking annoying hearing how "culturally important" it is to see Black Panther or Wonder Woman or how FemGhostbusters is evidence of, "How women still have a long way to go in Hollywood, ho ho ho!". It's manipulative, a crock of horseshit, and worst of all, it's working on the left.

I didn't give a shit when they threw a black Green Lantern at me back in the 90's, but I sure as shit will be pissed off if I'm told by a bunch of Asian-Americans and girls with blue hair how it's important for diversity I watch that fucking cartoon.

Attached: 25453453.png (864x702, 660K)

You know a politician doesn't have any actual issues that they believe in or stand up for if all they can talk about is how PoC's are being discriminated against. Where's their moral code, do they just repeat what the group believes?
Meanwhile, a decently written hero has a moral code that they they adhere too even when it's inconvenient or will make them look bad. For instance, Batman won't use guns or kill even if it would make things easier. I've noticed that a lot of poorly written new heroes don't have much personality let alone moral code.
For instance, has Rey from Star Wars ever had to choose between doing what was right and what most would benefit her?

Attached: detective-main.jpg (825x464, 515K)

>Literally no one cared until you decided making it into a "White Men vs. Everyone Else" politics debate that you'll even hear actual politicians paying lip service to.
Everyone else didn't separate public spaces into "white" and "colored". You brought this upon yourself, and even now you are the ones that push hardest for this political shit.

The white man is his own worst enemy.

Tommy went through like four different ranger colors and remained highly popular. I know I cared more for the guy than his ranger color

You know it was black royalty in Africa that sold off their own people as slaves, thinking there would be no ramifications if they sold off the lower class of a society, right?

Or do you think Europeans came in there and starting gunning everyone down demanding they board the ship?

It's a rough one like many things. Story goes Bruce Lee pitched a project that he intended to star in but it was passed on and they copied the basic premise.

Which is sadly not uncommon.

>Needing your favorite hero to look like you
Growing up in the 90's, I thought Iron Man was some Mexican with a mullet, but he was still my favorite. Hell, I'd have probably liked him more if he was just a sapient suit of armor.

Attached: Modular+cartoon[1].jpg (810x352, 73K)

Why is it you folk always default to black vs white, when colored included every non-white?

Because the racism stemmed from a slavery-based-on-color society and was a predominantly black vs. white issue. Mexican immigration boom didn't happen until the late 80's.

It's no different than how WWII was about the Jews even though Germans also threw in gypsies, gays, and other people in concentration camps.

NO, because i am a WHITE HETEROSEXUAL MALE with a PROPER TESTOSTERONE LEVEL, and apparently my VERY EXISTENCE is now CRIMINAL. Well, MOLON LABE you SOIBOI CÜCK FAGGOTS!

>I identify with superheroes because they're white

Yeah, halo but sadly she’s a whore and not a good Muslim

>Why does everyone make it into whites vs everyone else?
>Because you literally made a segregation system based on separating yourself from everyone else
>B-but niggers hated each other before we brought them over!
Classic whitey deflection

>WHITES STARTED IT
>Actually, black kings started i--
>LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA

Literally everyone started it. Every society in existence has segregated itself. Whites were just the most thorough about it

You're still doing that whites vs blacks thing. Did Indian colonization never happen? Did the opium wars never happen?

I would say the Germans were the most thorough about it.

Attached: Avengers_The_Initiative_Vol_1_28.jpg (651x1013, 168K)

Yeah.
Eight-pack.

>Whites were just the most thorough about it
LMAO

Did you miss the part of my post of: >It's no different than how WWII was about the Jews even though Germans also threw in gypsies, gays, and other people in concentration camps.

When we're talking about white vs. colored, it's PREDOMINANTLY (Look that word up, you don't seem to know what it means) white vs black.

Opium wars and interment camps is not what is being referred to when people in this thread are saying, "W-well, it's was WHITE PEOPLE who put up "colored only" signs for a fountain!". And Native American issues are an entirely different slate of problems. Genocide of a race is not the same as enslavement of a race, even if they're both still bad things.

If anything, Native Americans are the only actual group in this country that have a leg to stand on when they scream for representation. They can't even get the name of a fucking football team changed, they've got nothing but some superhero who turns giant sometimes.

>bleep bleep you don't follow narrative #4254 you wrong I repeat narrative, obey bleep bleep

>Literally no rebuttal

POCS are obsessed with representation.
And when they get it they realize none of the people colored like themselves really give a shit.

...are Germans not white now? I'm really not on the up and with who gets to be part of white peope's superiority party

It's more like when they get it, they're upset it didn't hit the mainstream and then reset the clock back to zero and act like it didn't count.

Still waiting for him in MCU

Attached: SebastianDruid.jpg (900x792, 213K)

Germans didn't put up "white" and "colored" signs.

Germans and Americans are two different groups of people with different history. Just saying, "whites started it" and then counting that as worldwide is pretty bullshit. Especially when "physically labeling people" or "separating what can and can't be used by different groups" is not something white people invented. The Jews had a harder time than anyone in society, yet they're all just counted as "white people" anyway when you look at people like Seinfeld.

Only speaking for myself here, but when I was a kid we used to claim popular characters as ourselves in school. I was told I couldn't be a Disney princess because none of them were black. For Halloween I dressed up as snow white but while it was fun, me being black didn't match up with the character. It wasn't a big deal, just something I thought about every now and then as a kid. There was a bit of a disconnect. While I loved characters I got a little more excited when there was a dark skinned one. My cousin and I used to fight over who was the pink ranger, but when the next season had a black girl as the yellow ranger, we fought over her next.

When I got older and got into anime, there were/are self insert otome games where (you) are the main character. I'd swoon over the boys and such but when the "cutscenes" came up, it was always the POV of a light skinned girl. That wasn't me, I get cucked every time I play those games and watch another girl take over my spot. So that's how I feel about it. Characters looking like you only mattered when it was
A. Meant to be a self insert (dating games)
B. When you wanted to dress up like them.

Attached: 939899892_preview_404girl.jpg (735x900, 105K)

I do miss blaxploitable movies.

So you're saying we should just exclusively hate the Americans?

To add onto this, isn't this similar to why people get pissed at BLACKED/black men in porn? Because porn is a self insert deal and being a white guy seeing a black man fuck another white woman I imagine would make it dark to imagine that man as yourself, thus making you feel like you're getting cucked when watching interracial porn.

Attached: 779129f283aad3ced77bc9fa2f662b56.jpg (720x1280, 103K)

I don't know. Are there any Hispanic characters that look white besides Kyle Rayner?

Attached: 1393374717238.png (281x301, 89K)

It sounds like you're a contrarian. If clickbait wants to be excited for SJW reason, what the fuck ever. Like if a white nationalist blog got excited about a game, no one should let that ruin their enjoyment of it. Grow up.

Let them believe. Most of black people i know just laughed at that.

This happened at work. The event cordinators are white people and so for black history month, they had "Wakanda Wensdays". Blacks at work were pissed/laughed their asses off.

But why are you blaming every white for that shit? Should i feel guilty for shit that happend decades ago?

All civilizations are built upon the deeds of their ancestors. Should you give up that civilization then you'll be free of the cycle of blame

>Asian protags in general?
Samurai Jack?

>Superhero that looked like me.

I was the fucking fat kid. I didn't want a hero looking like me.

Fat characters were too busy wanting to stuff their face by going "I sure could use a snack."

I liked static shock as a kid even though I'm New England white

Uncle Scrooge comics were my favorite growing up, this representation marketing scam is getting tiresome.

>self inserting
fucking hell is this actually a thing? how shallow and pathetic are you people

I'm saying your bait is bad.

You don't want white pussy because of who they are, you want white pussy for petty reasons that are literally skin deep. you're an embrassment

You have no fucking idea what a contrarian is, do you?

kamen rider you know the show power rangers was based on? How fucking retarded are you.

Blacked porn is made FOR white cucks. Only they and similarly psychotic people actually self insert into porn

Attached: D9a18g6WsAA3xvA.jpg (848x1200, 298K)

Kamen rider was never big in the states. I don't think it was even sent over

The fuck does that have to do with anything he wanted heroes that looked like him he had literal hundreds to choose from.
Was goku not big enough either?

What bugs me is not the need for representation, but this idea that it "doesn't count" for some dumb reason.

Black Panther was always around. But until a movie came out, kids had no black heroes to look up to? What? Will Smith playing Hancock doesn't count as a movie superhero because it doesn't have the Marvel stamp on it? Huh? Blade doesn't count because it wasn't part of the MCU? Goddammit.

What is in the mainstream is dependant on where you are user. Unless he's a jap Kamen Rider will probably not qualify

I think that's more of an impression you get than anything substantial. Also Movies > Comics in terms of popular media. Where have you been?

hes jap, and if he truly gave a damn about representation he wouldn't have given a damn about mainstream and looked for it anyway. lots of heroes aren't mainstream, is pecos bill or paul bunyan mainstream? What about john Henry?

It doesn't count because it won't help the modern industry ride the sjwave to box office success. None of this has to do with actual people's feelings, only media hype trying to trick you into thinking you live in a reality you don't.

But just because something is popular doesn't mean the other thing doesn't exist. Audiences saying, "Kids finally have a black superhero to look up to!", they always did. Their parents could have googled "Black superhero" at anytime and bought comics of an assortment of characters. But I guess since comics aren't popular, then that means these characters basically don't exist, so what's even the point of making these characters like in OP's image if they're not going to be part of a big Disney blockbuster thing?

>blade and hancock
>weren't superhero movies
>Where have you been?
Living my life without complaining at every little thing

Paul Bunyan and John Henry are extremely mainstream in America. They literally teach it in schools, TV shows do homages to them, they're basically modern mythology

>Parents
>Knowing how to Google
You know that's probably the issue: most people are just too retarded to research

I think there was a Kamen Rider series in the late 90s or early 2000s, the American version appeared on a Power Rangers episode and then he had his own show. Then maybe a decade later, there was another Kamen Rider show in the U.S.

But they aren't saying it doesn't exist. Yes, I know, normies suck for not reading comics, but the idea of visibility, international blockbusters and pieces of media more "important" in popular culture is significant than remaining in the uncool obscurity.

Disney has made an animated short about all three of those characters. That's the second closest you can get to mainstream next to Disney making a movie out of them.

It feels like they are implying it when they say, "He is the FIRST one". They have to add all these asterisks in order to achieve truth to that. Like, "He is the first mainstream Disney black superhero with a mainly black cast to get one billion dollars at the box office". They can't say first in general, because that's not true. They can't say first movie, because that's not true. They can't say first mainstream movie, because that's still not true.

Yet, they STILL managed to get away with hailing it as a cultural landmark. It just feels so shallow.

Here you go:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masked_Rider_(TV_series) where the lead character first appeared in a Power Rangers show, then he got his own show.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamen_Rider:_Dragon_Knight was a decade later and was on the CW for kids programming block.

I agree. Its the same way with Jacky Chan, Jet Li. Or every anime.
They are too dumb or not empathic enough. They cant understand or walk in their shoes if they are not a hardcopy of them.
Hell, we watched Jacky Chan or Blade and rooted for the heroes or acted/played them in our group.
Guess its mostly "we want to be represented in very popular and successfull movie".

Adults look for shit. Kids just go "well I guess that's just how the world is" because they literally don't know any better, then develop a warped victimized world view and grow up to complain about how x didn't exist even if it did. That's what happens when these things aren't spotlighted or at least pointed out to them. Kids are stupid and easy to brainwash.

Perhaps where you’re from but not here. I had to look up American heroes to do it, instead of complaining because unlike these idiots I had a brain
And outside America and even in America no one gives a shit about them at all. Otherwise it would be John Henry black people have a shit about not black panther

Maybe you were just an especially dumb kid user

>dumb
>when unlike these idiots I went to the local library
Are you sure you’re not projecting

You'd have to be pretty dumb to miss all the references and media surrounding them

>he says when blacks don’t even give a shit about John Henry
Are you saying black people are dumb?

Not all schools have the same curriculum dumbass

I used to have Aquman but now he's a pacific islander...

I am black, and they force-feed you nearly every vaguely relevant black figure in an attempt to make you feel like your race is worth something
Are you southern perhaps? I can imagine them skipping over John Henry I'm surprised you'd miss Paul Bunyan too

/thread

>It feels like
That's mostly a you problem. Twitter idiots will always say stupid fucking things, but the clickbait "acting" like it's the first normally just geek out about, again, the international blockbuster success of a film that's as "important" as an Avengers movie. Stepping more into the global mainstream is notable.

I wasn’t that user but why didn’t black people give a shit about John Henry then? instead they sucked off black panther like he was the first ever black super hero
There are two possibilities, one black people are dumb or two clearly everyone has different experiences.
But to answer your question no I’m not from the south instead of American hero classes we had home ec and diy classes, these classes are now gone apparently replaced by something else.

Beejaysus! Them are Oirish folk.

>FACES ARE COVERED UP.
Same as Snake Eyes, who by this guy's logic was everyone's fave because he's white under the mask.

I have never met these black panther obsessed black people (except actual black panthers) and can only assume such nonsense is part of the corporate hype machine trying to impress false realities on people for the sake of profit. You rage against a thing that doesn't exist, or at the most is much smaller than you've been made to believe

>I never seen it so it doesn’t exist
Your anecdotal evidence doesn’t mean shit. Which was the whole point of my last post. Especially since I actually met some of those idiots on twitter.

>Blade doesn't count because
This is the most stupid part of it.

This. A thread like this typically would have had links to what people are talking about, but instead there are not which paints a more clear picture of people giving the issue the Cuphead article treatment.

But remember, an entire generation watched Men in Black and wanted to be Tommy Lee Jones!

>he doesn’t about #wakanda
>he brings Yea Forums shit into Yea Forums
Sasuga Yea Forumsermin

>Your anecdotal evidence with real people is worthless!
>Mine matters though, cause I heard it on the internet!
Well I did say it was an assumption

>Internet with several hundred thousand retweets and tweets
Ah it’s a fellow boomer

>Mostly a you problem

Apparently not considering that shit made mainstream news headlines and the Oscars threw it a pity award.

This sounds like you went to a shitty school instead of it being society's fault. The average person knows who Paul Bunyan and John Henry are.

That's like saying, "I never heard of Bonnie and Clyde as a kid, so nobody did either!".

Hail young zoomer!

user said "media", not "school". Even Ren & Stimpy had a Paul Bunyan episode.

>I wasn’t that user but why didn’t black people give a shit about John Henry then?
Are you asking why black culture isn't about celebrating some decades old story like it's their Jesus? Or why they didn't make a cinematic universe out of it?

Did you want John Henry to have as many adaptations as Hercules or something? More fucking black kids now-a-days care about musicians than they do Martin Luther King, and you're asking why didn't John Henry become big?

If only you’re willing to use that same logic on Daniel instead off sucking him off
>He misses one episode
Well shit without googling why don’t you tell me all these references in media.
No not south, western coast

>Well shit without googling why don’t you tell me all these references in media.
How about I throw a wikipedia article your way, you fucking retard.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Bunyan_in_popular_culture

>Posts a wiki of the random times he appears in popular culture
Well tell you what user do you know who type of character this is?
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogatyr

>He was in a bunch of Russian films, therefore an American should have seen them

Do you know how fucking bad you are at arguing? Holy shit. Your level of argument is, "I grew up in a Christian neighborhood, therefore NOBODY knows what BUDDHISM is!".

>SHOW ME THE REFERENCES
>Gets shown the references
>NUH-UH

Rolling on the floor.

>literal English books and movies
>I don’t know him because he’s Russian
And that’s fine but don’t pretend everyone gives a shit about Paul Bunyan.

>HE DOESN'T KNOW THIS ONE CHARACTER, THEREFORE I'M RIGHT ABOUT THE OTHER!!!!

You're so fucking bad at arguing, so fucking bad, holy shit. You're objectively wrong about Paul Bunyan and you're embarrassed because there's an entire article dedicated to how much America is familiar with his folklore. Do you think you're the only special retard who knows his story? Do you think people are unfamiliar with Tarzan, too?

>References he appears as a gender bent version in a video game
Oh boy I better take this reference seriously said no one ever

You asked for references in media and you got it. Stop trying to move the goalpost.

>cant refute a single point
>I’m not bad you are
Pathetic
>do you think everyone doesn’t know Tarzan
I guarantee you there are people who don’t know or care about Tarzan are you retarded.

I refuted your point the instant I posted the Wikipedia article, you just tried really hard to act like that didn't like.

>I guarantee you there are people who don’t know or care about Tarzan are you retarded.
This is the most retarded thing you could've ever said and just proves you're trolling. Thank God for that, though. I couldn't believe someone would actually be stupid enough to think Paul fucking Bunyan is unknown folklore.

>references are about a gender bent man
You would actually have the balls to bring this up ad your reference ? Don’t lie to yourself

You asked for references in media and you got it. Stop trying to move the goalpost.

You could also do a better job hiding the fact that you're on mobile by replying to multiple posts at the same time. I don't know why you're using your phone in the middle of class, anyway. Maybe that's why you missed the lesson on Paul Bunyan the first time around.

>asked to not use google/internet to name his references
>decided to be cute and use wiki
>a collection of retarded references that are in why coherent culminating in a gender bent variation
I’m the one trolling?
>he doesn’t know about bogatyr
>Thinks he has a say in people knowing about random folklore
Are you just pretending to be retarded?

>IF I SAY HE CAN'T USE THE INTERNET, I WIN!!!!!
>Also says PROVE IT TO ME WITH ARTICLES

You're soooo fucking desperate, holy shit.

>he asks for book on science
>gets a book on pseudoscience
You must be very easy to trick

>Also says PROVE IT TO ME WITH ARTICLES
When the fuck did I say this? Did you get lost?

It's more like
>Asks for a book on science
>Gets a book on science
>Hones in on a single line of, "Dark matter is sometimes just called magic by scientists because they don't really know what it is"
>REEEEEEE's about that one line and disregards everything to seem right
>Also REEEEEE's and claims he never asked for a book but also asked for a book

Notice how not a single person in this thread agreed with you and you're the only faggot who believed Paul Bunyan was some unknown folklore that only you knew about.

You wanted someone to "prove it" but "without Googling".

What the fuck did you want? For a human encyclopedia to show up? How would I prove to you whether I copied a list and pasted it to you in a post or whether I linked you something? Judging by how bad you argue, you probably would have said, "Just because you can list it doesn't mean people know it".

That's why I skipped a step and just linked an article that basically was entitled "Hey Look! People Fucking Know This Guy!" and now you're trying to backpedal and pretend it doesn't count because your school sucks, so everyone's must've sucked.

>book on science
>you cannot biologically change sex
>pseudoscience
>there are some people who can change sex at will, and genderbend themselves
Which one would you actually use?
>Notice how not a single person in this thread agreed
You mean you and the other user? You’re the entire thread?
>Paul Bunyan was some unknown folklore that only you knew about.
I said no one gives a shit unless you look it up.
You know any Paul Bunyan stories?

>Randomly jumps to trans issues

How about you stick with one topic instead of trying to shift it unto your shitty /pol/ bait, you embarrassing retard who probably had to google what the fuck a library was and pretend to go to one.

God, you're so fucking desperate to pretend you're right. You're Flat Earther terms of, "Look, it's very obvious you're wrong, but you just can't accept it because you're so far in it now".

This is a sign you should kill yourself, honestly.

>gives me random list of incoherent shit
>you’re the one bad at arguing
Never write any papers that ask for references.

>Incoherent shit
It's only incoherent if you can't read, lol. Which is probably why you're struggling so hard right now.

>#wakanda means people thought it's the first black super hero movie
You're illustrating how the problem is based around the internet's cynicism working them into a rabid groupthink about assumed articles with assumed content.

>/pol/
Couldn’t win with your shit arguments so you resorted to le /pol/ boogeymen.
I’m not one giving shit references and expected to be taken seriously.

>Shit references
Yeah, that's what someone who lost would say regarding a list of every single book, movie, monument, commercial, jingle, and obscure references.

>appears in video game as gender bent
>referenced in book as a disease
>referenced as a kick in the crotch
>bulls head turns you into Minotaur
>coherent
using the references I provided above tell me about Paul bunyan.

Wow this thread is shit, good thing it's dying

>TELL ME ABOUT PAUL BUNYAN
I'm not going to humor a retard who's so fucking desperate to prove he's right, he completely disregards an entire article about Paul Bunyan in Popular Culture and proceeds to throw out a transgender comparison and even goes as far as saying, "People don't know who Tarzan is".

On the bright side, you now know next time you're going to make a shitty post about how people don't know other superheroes like some folklore guy, don't bring up John Henry or Paul Bunyan since everyone clearly knows who the hell they are and you're probably just some ESL kid who missed all the references because he couldn't speak English.

>I’m not going to prove I’m a retard because I gave a list so blatantly pants on head retarded that i didn’t read about which included a trans character because I’m a sexist retard
I didn’t know you were a sexist but I did know you were a retard.

Hey, prove to me people DON'T know who Paul Bunyan is. Show me an article or a video of people getting interviewed and not knowing. Link me a wiki page about how Paul Bunyan is obscure.

Oh wait, you can't? Oh no, I guess that means I win, oh noooooo, you're a retard, oh nooooooo.

I could have told you Paul Bunyan’s story but you can’t because you knew nothing about him.
That’s why the best you could do was a wiki article and cry about trans people.

What's that? You still haven't shown me proof that people don't know who Paul Bunyan is.

Uh oh, I think you just revealed you're an absolute fucking moron! Oh NO! This must be really embarrassing for you. You should make a few dozen more posts about how you S E E T H E because you can't read an article.

Oh you’re being serious? I thought you were being retarded?
Well let’s see I don’t think a man in Africa or a Russian know who he is. I don’t have evidence but considering we don’t have the same language or culture my chances are pretty good.
>seethe
And we’re done here

Ben 10. Though i am way more ugly

>Has to go as far as to talk about how DIFFERENT COUNTRIES wouldn't know AMERICAN FOLKLORE

Wow! It's almost like you're fucking horrendous at making a point!

Oh you want real american? Well as an actual native here I can tell you no one here gives a shit about Paul Bunyan and neither do the Mexicans.

>Americans don't give a shit about Paul Bunyan

Which is why they have a bunch of statues of him, keep referencing him in movies and cartoons, have a bunch of books and media dedicated to him, and Disney even made a short about him.

Oh, but he's not worshipped like Jesus, so in your head, you think you're right. Yikes.
