Oh boy
A video of some faggot whinging about a cartoon

yep

School's Out!: The Musical > Steven Universe: The "Movie"

Attached: school039s-out-1.jpg (2337x3127, 1.65M)

46.6% singing!? Boy, if that isn't the wrong amount of singing for a movie to have then I don't know what is.

Whoa, a proper musical is mostly singing? Color me surprised.

not wrong

>Bitch about half of the movie being singing
>in a fucking musical

This musical sucks, 65% of it is singing!

wait a minute
so when they called it a musical... they weren't kidding???

I don't feel like watching the full thing, is he bitching that it isn't enough singing for a musical? Half seems fine.

The pacing in the movie is actually really good. I was surprised.

plenty of good points, especially about "truth" and "change"
happens to be on the anti-spinel camp, which is understandable

It's almost like we were in a site that dicusses that particular subject

>A Video Essay

Attached: soy2.jpg (324x419, 51K)

I guarantee he's never seen a Broadway/stage musical. Steven Universe The Movie still has more talking than a typical one of those.

Whoa a musical has alot of singing in it? Wtf Sugar is a hack!

True, and it isn't even the best FoP musical at that

These videos are for teenagers with too much time on their hands.

Why are people so determined to make video essays about this cartoon?

It's just Xiaolin Showdown with a bit more lore. The fuck is the big deal? It's not like Breaking Bad where they break down all the amazing character choices and motivations for future screenwriters to analyze. It's just a kids show. I like kids shows, but they're not fucking worthy of this many video essays.

>2019
>being a fopfag

It's the most popular recent cartoon and also -tries- to have complex characters and lore, which is enough for credit for some people. What other cartoons even come close? There's R&M, but people make autistic videos about that similarly

No vilains were redeemed in Xiaolin Showdown

The only good one was Whorra because it really was that shit every step of the way. All the others are more about making mountains out of molehills or getting blindsided by obvious foreshadowing.

>What other cartoons even come close?
Venture Brothers
Bojack Horseman
Voltron
She-Ra
Castlevania
F is for Family
Disenchantment
Final Space
Star Vs
Infinity Train
Amphibia

I would say all these shows are on-par with SU's character development and, depending on the show, world building. Like, obviously F is for Family isn't going to have a ton of world building, but it has a shit ton of character arcs and development.

There are quite a number of online discussion and video essays for these listed shows. Feel free to promote the ones you like.

I like Amphibia as much as the next guy but the show isn't there yet. Maybe wait until S2 though

I don't want to promote any of them. I don't think basic hero's journey-tier of a story is worthy of video essays in the first place.

It was cute at first when, "HOLY SHIT, THE BURNED TABLE IN BOJACK'S HOUSE STAYED BURNED!", but now people are treating like, "Holy shit, a character REMEMBERED DIALOGUE from the PREVIOUS EPISODE" as groundbreaking writing. It's kind of a little tiresome to see how low the standards are for animation that people don't care if it's GOOD writing, only that it has continuity.

In most musicals the characters sing like 90% of the time so this movie actually has more talking than average.

I don't understand why people keep making so many videos trying to convince people "SU sucks and here's why". Theres at least a dozen of them on YouTube. You don't see this for any other kids show.

Ok but most of the songs were good.

>any year
>being a SUtranny

What would be an example of a cartoon that is good, but low on continuity/worldbuilding/etc? A modern example would be best

HEY FLAPPY BOB, CAN'T YOU SEE WHAT THEY'VE DONE

This guy's criticisms are all small-brain garbage. It's nit-picky shit. I get the feeling he would find stuff to complain about no matter what the creators did.

not that guy but spongebob; gumball if you think its good

This is the weirdest sort of soft cyberpunk nepotism.
>be rich trust fund kid
>Your big shot project manager uncle who works for Google in Silicon Valley has the sway to tell his devs to tweak the algorithm to have YouTube suggest your make-up tutorial or travel vlog or whatever for a solid week as a present for your sweet sixteen
What a story Mark

The only good SU criticism video is Toon Ruins since she actually likes and watches the show.

I don't even want to bring up that one tranny's hour long escapade of Sugar being a racist

>This movie is 46.6% singing
>proceeds to explain the math involved in converting a decimal into a percentage
This idiot just loves the sound of his own voice, huh?

Cry more su tranny

The tranny's the one who made the video, not me.

Personally, I liked Clarence and BallMasterz (Does it really have world building or is just a wacky world played up for humor? It's kind of similar to Invader ZIM's world building in that aspect). I also laughed a lot at Pickle and Peanut, but everybody hates when I bring that up.

It's hard to list good episodic cartoons because everything seems to get bogged down by trying to be serious instead of funny after a few episodes. Even Regular Show thought it was important to have a love triangle and characters giving awkward speeches with a main character dying in the finale.

There are a good number of episodic cartoons, but MOST of them seem to stem from Dreamworks properties. Home, Peabody and Sherman, Croods, Captain Underpants. Anyone who pitches an original idea seems to have a big overarching narrative in mind. I kind of miss the Ed Edd n Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Spongebob pitches.

Sadly Spongebob hasn't been good in forever. I actually liked Gumball, but no plot means barely anyone cares outside of porn

It's really ironic considering that the hour-long anti SU video was made by a literal tranny

Attached: 1565652966894.jpg (500x818, 73K)

Sure su tranny

Incorrect. SU: the Movie doesn't have Tara Strong singing so its better.

Fusion is "intimate" not "amorous".

Attached: 1566889549502.jpg (500x502, 46K)

Holy molly, I never expected a decent analysis from someone who *likes* SU, I do agree a lot with the points he makes the only difference is that I dislike the show

Well that's nice to see for once

Attached: 1541101761114.png (106x91, 27K)

the editing is good but some points are fucking shit
>complaining about a musical when it was clearly advertized as one
>fusion overall as bad

other are in favor
>plotholes caused by new weapons

conclusion: meh

Nobody who's honest with themselves thinks the show or movie is without problems
An even better one

>It's the most popular recent cartoon
Thanks for the laugh dipshit

Tranny has got to be the laziest 'insult'. Meanwhile, your lord and savior Butch Hartman is failing to stay relevant.

>Xiaolin Showdown

Have you watched either of these shows before?

Shill your shit somewhere else.

It's certainly up there. Cable's shit all around but SU manages to stay near the top for premieres on CN. Of course things like Spongebob on Nick beat it, but Spongebob beats most things.

Not even Whorra. Especially since 3/4 of it were just "Jews, amiright?" jokes.
But I'd take the Whorra series over anything MauLer and his ilk shit out regularly.

It's a comedy/action show about a group of four using magic and artifacts to sometimes combat villains and monsters in an anime/cartoon inspired manner.

You seem to be under the impression that a comparison needs to be 1:1. As if Steven Universe could only ever be compared to another cartoon that has a little boy hanging out with gem aliens.

>a minute and a half if
>"Most of us went into the movie expecting a movie and not a musical"
They announced it was a musical well ahead of time. Hell, there was even a "big announcement trailer" that just consisted of the text "Steven Universe the Movie... is a musical".

Haven't watched the video because I can't be assed. Going off the title, is he angry because there was too much or too little singing?

Never minding the fact that artifacts/magic aren't really that prominent in SU, that descriptor can also apply to a fuckton of other shows (ATLA, Magiswords, Ninjago, etc)

>OP shilling his shitty youtube channel
Not based at all. In fact, it's quite cringe.

Attached: 1567469763804.jpg (185x185, 4K)

Yes? And it would be fair to compare XS to any of those shows. And in fact, it got compared to Avatar A LOT back in the day.

Why do you think people compared stuff like Lord of the Rings to Harry Potter even though it's only common denominator was, "Magical world with long-bearded wizard"? They were both magical fantasy series. You're allowed to compare things in the same genre, and XS + SU were definitely in the same "Magical comedy/action" genre. I wouldn't compare either shows to Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Some of those songs were, like, shockingly well performed. You can feel the emotion in this song more than almost any other cartoon musical song I've heard.

American Dad. They make nods to continuity, but usally just to say "I know this happened, but just ignore it" the best example being in Stan's Best Friend when Stan gets the dog Kisses. There were two previous episodes with the family/Stan getting a dog, but Stan acts like this is the first. Francine brings up the continuity error and Stan reacts by telling her those were obviously dreams.

>Trigger warning at the beginning of the video
i don't know yet what comes after, but this man can not be based, ever

Is this video seriously "This musical has too much singing".

Pretty much.

Nobody tell him about Les Miserables, he'd blow his shit

should've been called Les Musicals
