Will Joker be the first comic book movie to win an important award?

>an important award
?

"Will"? It already won the Golden Lion.

not after the inevitable shooting it won't

I don't get how this is blowing up so much. Nothing I've seen so far of the movie looks particularly insightful or groundbreaking.
Is Phoenix just that good an actor that he can elevate his material?

this, new high scores seem inevitable

autists love batman for some reason

He probably means a "non-meme" award, one for the merits and craft of the film instead of like set or costume design.

You know, Like Spiderverse did last year.

Best film or actor?

Spider-Verse won the best animated Oscar literally last year user

If by "important award", you mean Academy Award, you already know the answer to that question. The lily-white old farts that comprise the Academy don't give the awards that matter to films that don't fit the "Best Picture" profile. Hell, most of the time, if it's a movie of a certain genre or type, they won't even bother to watch it- and you better believe superhero movies fall into that category.

Yes, I know Joker is not a "superhero movie." It won't matter to them. It's a movie about a comic book character- it doesn't matter how good it is, it's going to get snubbed. Maybe it'd be different if it were animated and it could be safely shuffled off to the "Best ANIMATED Picture" category, but live action? Where all the Sundance darlings come out to rub shoulders? Forget it.

It's not a comicbook movie, so no.

Since when is an Oscar not a meme? Besides it just fucking won the Golden lion that seems pretty unattainable for a comic book movie

>awards only matter when it's thing I like
Never change, humanity.

>Since when is an Oscar not a meme?
seethe harder, DCuck

Ledger got best supporting actor Oscar already. And no awards are important btw

Heath Ledger already won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor for his Joker role

Nigga DC got a best actor grab for joker. Spiderverse was good but it was that years only serious contender both due to politics and weak competition

Phoenix will be nominated for best actor, but won't win.

Depending on how things turns out, De Niro will probably be nominated for best supporting actor and might actually take it.

Best picture? Not happening.

>an important award
It won the Golden Lion. And those aren't hand out by a cabal of decrepit hollywood elites.

"No no, user! That didn't count! It was a pity reward because Heath died! Joker is going to be the first REAL comic book movie to win a REAL award!"

Or something to that effect.

>Oscar bait

At which time the anons in this thread were 7, well before the meme capeshit wars

Daily reminder that Black Panther won 3 Oscars and was nominated for Best Picture.

DC got Oscars AND the Golden Lion, stupid Marvirgin.

so like The Dark Knight?

Heath Ledger won a non-meme award.

Animated is a meme award.

Says a lot about the kind of society we live in

0 chance it'll do as well as Oscar-winning kinography Équipe de suicide

Remember when Disney tried to force a "most popular" into the Oscars so the MCU could win Oscars?

"b-but it doesn't count because it weren't big ones!"
>except when Skwad won best makeup that one year

It already won the Golden Lion and Spider-verse, Black Panther and Suicide Squad already won a important award.
If you mean best pictures then is unlikely since Once upon a time in hollywood exists

But doesn't its best picture nomination prove that the oscars are the meme awards. Its a decent movie but god damn nothing is more depressing than people thinking its some sort of cultural landmark

a bunch of critics are saying this will encourage shootings. they're going to be so pissed when nothing happens until the sonic movie comes out.

The Dark Knight won Best Supporting Actor.
