They would do drugs together and hate women.

Cerebus's redemption will last up until he gets drunk again and any progress gets reset to zero.

You can't redeem people after they're already in Hell.

Cerebus is one of those people who is just inherently self destructive. He can put on a front of being a good guy for a while, but underneath that he is just a genuinely selfish prick.

Steven wouldn't be able to redeem him because on the one level hes aware hes a prick. And when its made apparent to him by the few people he would genuinely call a friend he does attempt to be better. But its only momentarily. Hes just incapable of putting in the actual effort required to change.

Theres an issue in the Guys arc where Bear (Cerebus best friend) lays into him and basically calls him out on the fact that Cerebus is an asshole, who's problems all stem from his need to get back at the world. Honestly Cerebus's desire for hoarding gold and gaining power both relate more to the fact it'll fuck over other people.

No because as a hermaphrodite Cerebus will always have a part of the female void in him, thereby rendering him pure evil.

The only thing that can help Dave Sims is a few months of inpatient treatment, followed by the typical meds prescribed for schizophrenics.

This. People who say mean things about gays and trannies should be locked up and drugged.

>Cerebus is a hermaphrodite
Weird creative choice for someone who hates trannies

reminder that Cerebus essentially met god and got nothing out of it except finding out that he was unlovable

Steven up to Season 5 would do his best to try and redeem him and would just run into the fucking wall that is the endless void of misery and selfishness that makes up Cerberus.

Past that, you have current Steven, who'd try for a while, and then probably give up and let him rot when it becomes obvious nothing is working.

*Cerebus*

there is nothing to redeem

Well, he TRIED at the end

He killed a baby and raped a woman and broke Jaka's heart

But user Jaka was a bitch all along according to Sim

That's Sim's worst crime imo, if anyone deserved a happy ending it was her.

I honestly regretted not using "It wasn't right, but it was as right as it could be" for my yearbook quote

Didn't Sims only go off the deep end and really give into his hat for all things feminine towards the end of the comic?

Yes and no. The infamous ranting about how all women are cosmic voids sucking the life-force and creativity out of the male light came around the 'Mothers and Daughters' arc. The same arc revealed that Cerebus was a hermaphrodite. It's part of the reason why people were so fucking confused when Sim started ranting about how shite women are because in the part of the book that was actually a comic and not Sim writing a fucking novel about women it was still fairly.... well, progressive.

People went off the deep end too early, as far as I can tell. Basically two different key characters in the series express the concept of "male light" and "female void" from two completely different angles by the end of it. One character suggests that the male is the superior intellectual and moral example, the other suggests the opposite. It's nothing more than a thought experiment.

Doesn't it go back to being the male void and female light by the end though? Although by that point Dave had discovered religon and had started re-writing the Torah as a Woody Allen film. In really small text. With barely any actual comics. For about 40 pages. And that's before he starts ranting about the demons in the sun.

>Dave is one of those people who is just inherently self destructive. He can put on a front of being a good guy for a while, but underneath that he is just a genuinely selfish prick.
Yep.

He's a literal schizo, it's weird.
Even in the late stuff you can see shades of Jaka being a complex person while Dave/the narrative is basically screaming "no she's not, no she's not, reeeeeeeeeee!" It's a weird duality almost to the end between Dave jumping over logic and into crazy town and Dave having perfectly normal and intelligent things to say.

Poor fucking bastard.

Dude, Sims is absolutely legitimately insane and in desperate need of psychiatric help. Have you never read the essay on how dogs sleeping inside will bring the downfall of civilization?
