When Liefeld was writing it, the book was more style over substance. A lot of issues of people jumping into secret bases, talking about "the mission" and "war" and getting into meaningless fights.
I enjoyed it for its 90s cheese, but it's for the best that better writers took over and turned Liefeld's disparate ideas into character arcs.
Liefeld himself is still based.

orignally the plan was that Dani really had become a villain because of some traumatic event, and that the teleporter girl with the MLF was a repowered Magik (Illyana Rasputin) who had defected with her
Then they retconned that Dani was never a villain she was just pretending as a deep cover SHIELD assignment (which makes no sense whatsoever if you read the earlier issues where she's even THINKING about being a villain) and the teleporter was just some random mutant
