I think Small and Weapon of Choice may of been showing us that Shin Mao and his daughters get most of their ability from their gear while Mao Mao Mao had to actually git gud. Like MM didn't even have his tail replaced, but his dad's entire body is bionic to compensate for being small.
Maybe Shin's problem is that he dislikes himself for being inadequate, hence him staking so much pride into his children, and why Mao Mao saying "sometimes I like myself when you're not around" hit as hard as it did.

Small was pretty damn good but I would be lying if I wasn't let down a little. Tanya Keys was good but it felt more like a "Here's this character. She'll come back later!" sort of thing. Torbaclaun was batshit fun with some pretty deep implications about the true nature of the Sweetiepies. Weapon of Choice was a fun episode, and part of me just likes the trio going on a simple lower stakes adventure sometimes.

Upcoming one. I have more but might as well avoid sharing spoilers since it's only a few days from now.

I took it as Shin Mao venting all of his years of frustrations and built up insecurities on Mao Mao for being a few inches shorter than his sisters.

He's doing what his father didn't do for him, and that's being emotionally available for a child.

It skeeved me out, personally. And then there was the cum-play that made me skim through the last parts of the fic

Well, there was one BadgerMao smut fic where Mao's going through a heat cycle and he convinces Badgerclops (rather easily in fact) to "fix" the situation. However, it features a trans Mao with a vagina, so I don't know if you'd be alright with that. I'm not sure there are other well written smut fics with them.

There's a slow burn BadgerMao fic called "Moving on" in AO3 that doesn't feature any sex scenes, but it's really good in my opinion.

And if you want, you can check out that Diamondladder fic. Like I said, it's mostly really well done. I just didn't like the ending

If a more "serious" antagonist was introduced into the show, what would you like them to be like. I think a villain that mirrored Mao Mao in his goals would be fun. While Mao Mao wants to become a legendary hero by protecting Pure Heart Valley, the antagonist wants to steal the Ruby Pure Hear to become a legendary bandit or pirate or whatever.

Oam Oam. The villain who occasionally does some heroic things by accident, like rescuing a sweetiepie by putting out a forest fire. It was pragmatic however; he just didn't want to suffocate to death in the smoke. He contrasts Mao, who occasionally does some morally questionable things.
He wants to be loved by his father who is the most "noble" bandit in the world. A real Casanova who has traveled the world, visited many villages and "romanced" many more women. He's equally neglectful of his son, and Oam just wants to be acknowledged by him.

Maximilian Pegasus levels of seriousness. Someone cold but someone who's just fabulous enough to be fitting within the confines of his universe.
