You could do a whole bunch of shit. Swings down from a building and lands in wet cement and has to slip out of his shoes. Black cat does some of her acrobatic shit and Spidey keeps shooting out webs and missing her, eventally surrounding himself in his own web and getting stuck. Is that the kind of thing you're thinking about? I posted this yesterday but had to fix the 4th panel. It's always the 4th panel. I get too excited and rush through it

If I want to start a webcomic and see some degree of success what should I do? I've already settled on the concept of only doing anthologies of around 10 pages to avoid burnout, but the current climate regarding the comic scene is uncomprenhensible on my part.

The advantages of short stories are that you cut the work and stress requred for longer material. You also get to tell an story, begining, middle and end, in a short ammount of time, leaving the audience wanting more. This is like the difference between short films and regular films.

Fair enough, although 2007 version of Rococo had 5 chapters I think. Although I honestly kind of embarrassed of its content. My sensibilities has changed, so I was trying to make something that more closely match what I like now. I honestly couldn't come up with an excuse, because I was just as slow about drawing the comic back then as I am now, but now I have a full time job. I can draw fairly fast if I want to , but I just not very happy about the stuff I was coming up with, so I just sit on them for a long time and tinker with it.

A Kangaroo bot with hard hitting feet and gloves, a sturdy tail and a Boomerang that doubles as a bludgeon and always comes back when throw. Also, sorry if these pictures are a bit grayer than the previous ones, my scanner is being weird.
A more simple one here, a Turtle bot that based around taking hits. He can launch himself like a rocket after retracting into his shell, but only in a straight line.

If you keep redrawing and keep waiting "until you get better" you'll never get anything done. This is something I myself have learned and finally accepted within the last year or two.
Looking at your pic in that first post, your art has barely even changed in the last 2/3 of the pic. You were ready to go years ago, but frankly, in all the time I've been in these threads its just you doing the same couple chapters or pages over and over to the point that I've kind of lost interest in your story and characters, as interesting and as well-drawn as everything is.
You're among the best in these threads, but you keep waiting to get better while 90% of the people here have half your skill or less and keep churning things out. I know you draw a LOT of stuff though, for other threads, and even some NSFW stuff which is great, but it would be nice to see you actually get on to the projects and characters you actually care about.
Its actually painful seeing someone like you just spinning your wheels in the mud. You have to draw a line, and let your stuff not necessarily be "perfect" in the way you think it should be.

What are some good ways to stay focused on getting some practice done or trying to design characters or draw scenes? I have an idea for a webcomic where a very boring/ordinary woman either 18-30 who works as a grocery store manager. She has a vague interest in trying to camp, but has no friends or family to go with. She tries it and immediately gets sucked into a portal after wading into it. Gets transported into a WoW/DND like fantasy world. Unknowingly sides with the ‘bad guys’ (anti-heroes), and high jinks go on. Does it sound okay?
I think it has potential. I can imagine this meek character coming to terms with the side she's unwittingly chosen, and as time goes on she gets more and more in tune with her role, maybe even rises up through the ranks.

i've been going back and forth as to if i want to make a comic or a visual novel a comic's easier and very possible for one person to do, I just need to study panel layout a bit better but I've already started working on a VN about a year ago, ended up giving up when I realized that I can't do music, although anons on Yea Forums have told me that people on soundcloud and newgrounds are pretty friendly with letting people use their back catalogs of music for games if they're credited I really want to get the ball rolling though aghhh

I've mostly been writing and rewriting, completely unsatisfied with every story I made... particularly the opening chapter.
I can't go into too much detail because spoilers, but after trying a few plot changes, I've actually made things a LOT easier to write, and also given myself a lot more freedom with the story. Ironically it's... actually closer to the ROOTS of when I first came up with it.
Sometimes it's just ONE thing that's holding you back.
Either way, I'm closer to starting than ever before, now that the major obstacle is gone.

It's really not so much that I hate my work, it's just that what I had before was just too difficult to work with. It raised too many questions, drilled too many plot holes, so many that it was all but unworkable. It's largely fixed now tho. Even the characters' personalities have more chemistry.

Ah, yes. That's Rover. I imagine that kid will play a fairly important role in a future arc. Possibly as an audience surrogate or someone whose faith in whatever needs to be restored. Or he could have another role, who knows! But he'll probably still be a surly alien moth brat with a flea problem.

I've been trying to make better use of "solid black" areas to make the style more striking. Not unlike gouache and markers used to color comics in the 80s and 90s.
oh yeah, blacks have to be used subtly but they can do amazing shit. they make your colors pop, and the two together can create a totally striking look. Comparing the official art from the two 64-bit zelda games illustrates things amazingly

I do actually have tips on that.
Firstly, DON'T GO OVERBOARD with freckles. There's a point at which it goes into "creepy 50s ginger spaghetti kid" territory. Less is more. And more is too much.
And for sparsely-freckled characters, never make their spots symmetrical, especially on the face.

I won't go into the particulars, because spoilery...
It's about a ragtag group of youngsters from different backgrounds trying to make their way as bounty hunters and odd jobbers in space.
As they go on their adventures, they become caught up in a galaxy-spanning plot that could determine the fate of all life in the galaxy. Along the way they encounter all sorts of fantastic alien races, sentient robots, bizarre locations, and factions looking to conquer the stars.
The main character is basically a space greaser who was expelled from his military training academy, along with his best friend (the moth boy.) Along the way they're joined by a wild cyborg punk girl, and several other interesting characters looking to get in on the adventure.
If you arent going to make webcomics, then what are you going to do with your time? I guess you could come over to my house and play transformers with me. I am always soundwave though, so you cant be soundwave.

It really, really depends on the situation.
Sound effects can really add power to a scene, but BAD lettering can completely ruin it.
I very VERY strongly recommend looking up "Comic Book Grammar" tutorials. Lettering is a very underappreciated art. If you do it right, nobody notices it. But if you do it well, it doesn't detract from your art, and may even enhance it.
the cockpit should be in the head. i say should, because i am honestly not sure where the hell the main cockpit is. i mean the blackbird cockpit winds up on the crotch, so its where ever you want it to be. let's :D

Ohhhh I see. That does require the colors to be under the lineart though, not just adjacent(otherwise there's nothing there for it to multiply over) so you'd have to prepare that in advance, not a cheap way to get away with colored lines after using fillbucket. Still super useful though, in some situations.

I used the colour wheel to get a darker colour and had the lineart on different layers for different parts of the body and bg. I then used that option to get darker colours. It's kind of tedious to prepare in advance though, but was still useful. I think the drawing I showed was covering my layers, but I'm sure I showed a screencapture that had a square over the current color selection.

See what they hold a trademark on is extremely subtle, since it's tenuous enough for them to hold the rights to anytthing so generic, so they have a VERY tight grip on that. They have to, or they'd lose what they have to ravenous lawyer jerks You can have gillmen, but there'd better not be lagoons mentioned, and you're going to want to hew pretty far from the old look. You can have all the frankenstein's monster you want, but if he's got a flat-top head you're in trouble. It's just like nobody owns gargoyles, but greg weisman was the first to have them shedding the stone like a skin, so that's a good thing to avoid

Back then, the good ones were really fighting back hard against censorship and being dismissed as brainless kiddy fare (which others just embraced) not much has changed interesting about the Universal monsters though, they were the first subject matter to be unbanned under the comics code, as even those fuckups couldn't justify calling something harmful to children when generations of people grew up knowing them as classic films.

I needed to think about what I say about this, you are right, of course. Although I have been thinking about which character and project that is really meaningful to me. I am not sure why it is such a difficult thing for me to just decide on. I felt like I couldn't just draw Rococo doing things I want to make her do the most without having to make proper build up, a supporting cast, but I don't always care about some of these supporting cast as much as I do Rococo. Some of the things I wanted to express with them are also something I considered controversial so I kept hesitating, and rethinking about how I will handle them. However a lot of times I did stuff I thought was controversial turned out to be not particularly controversial at all, and I wasn't sure what the big deal was in retrospect. I am going to try to not over think it and push through some of the storyboards I have already established for the time being.

When I FIRST came up with the idea, I was actually trying to create a porn comic. But as I developed the plot and characters more and more, I kinda grew attached to them and wanted to make something everyone could enjoy. Eventually I got totally immersed and decided I wanted to make a serious/cool webcomic about their adventures.
The way the characters and story are now? They're pretty much unrecognizable from when it started.

If you make something pornographic, even if it's story-based, all people will think about and ask about is the porn.
My decision to delete all the porn pics online was pretty much cemented when I showed one of my character backstories to a friend for feedback, but they just kept making lewd comments.
Like, literally IGNORING the backstory and asking about his dick size and such. Disrespectful on multiple levels, both to me and to the character.
Then when I told them I was gonna make it a SFW comic, they went into a 1200 word tirade, called me a puritan nazi, and blocked me, leaving me... nonplussed at the whole situation.
And yeah, I imagine there will still be sex in the story... as in, it's not a SEXLESS UNIVERSE. No actual porn scenes, just... it's a subject that's addressed. If that makes sense. You may see the occasional alien hooker hanging around a warp relay station.
I also have, I don't want to say a problem, but a dilemma with porn artists.
I've found many who are more than competent artists, but all they want to do is draw porn. Either that, or they've been doing it for so long that they can only draw porn anymore.
What I am saying is pure speculation, but it's the only outcomes I can come to. About a year and a half ago I actually went through the entirety of the list of artists in the Yea Forums draw thread and walked away with about a half-a-dozen people who were interested in doing a project that wasn't porn oriented, and even they eventually bailed.
The good news is that I did find SFW artists.
You clearly had to wrestle with a similar problem as you said, plus the writing portion seems to have delayed your project considerably.
If you'd like, I'd be willing to read over your script(s) and outline(s). It's sort of what I do.

Porn keeps the rent paid, it's really that simple. You'll never go broke if you can make decent money as a porn artist. That's kind of a trap many artists fall into. Panel 4: I think there's room to show the whole falling figure, rather than having their feet and hands cut off at the top. As it is, we're seeing motion lines coming from one direction only; it could initially be read as the figure moving upwards, before reading the bottom of the panel and realising they were falling. Remove any ambiguity and clearly show the whole figure and the direction they're falling. (Split panel 4 into two separate falling and catching panels. How does it read then?)
Maybe have the arms and legs still raised a little when they're being caught, to show the moment of impact. Lowered arms and legs come after impact when the body has settled.
Panel 8: A short sharp impact shouldn't have an extended sound; KRAK, not KRAAAAK. Fill the extra space with the ladder hitting the head and the hands just letting go of the rope. The expressions and cry of "Look out!" in panel 6 is enough for us to expect something dangerous (the falling ladder) occuring in panel 7, so it's not completely out of nowhere if you hadn't read the previous page.
Panels 10 & 11: Unless they're leaning forward, we need to be viewing the figure from a much lower angle, as it doesn't match with the angle of the archway.

These are some great notes. Yeah panel 4 was one I was worried about. It kinda looked like she was landing on the ground with the guy in her arms. I think the best fix would be to split it into two parts, one with her running to him as he falls, then one with her catching him. The problem is spacing. Either I shrink it down and cram it into 2 panels, or I shuffle the other panels around which'll require me to rewwork how the rest of the comic flows.
Good note on the KRAK! I think showing the impact will definitely help.
And yeah drawing characters in perspective is still kind of my achilles heel. I think I did her head fine but the body just doesn't line up. I'll need to find a way to make panels 10 & 11 look right.

Not really, but I believe both names have the same inspiration. Rau - Red. (It was actually Roj from rojo (red in spanish), changed the O for an U, then the O for an A to make it feminine. Azu - Blue (Azul in spanish).
