what do you think will be the music trend of 2020's now that it seems like rap's popularity has plateaued and starting to decline?

Probably David Bowie again.

Some form of rock.

we now live in a post genre society

Nothing.

Afrobeat with Spanish lyrics.

>it seems like rap's popularity has plateaued and starting to decline
What is your evidence for this?

Probably tylo be chillin

More bands that sound like shitty Tame Impala clones

Unironically Sewerslvt type music, obviously there'll be evolutions of it and it'll adapt to a shoegaze/rock sound, but the electronics, samples, energy and aggressive beats will all be there

old conan had some genius segments

Algorithmically generated Spotify ambience to shower/chill/eat/sleep to

post-emo

i don't wish for sewershit to have this much of a big influence but this seems slightly undeniable with all of the clones of him floating around

Punk will make a comeback. The mainstream will be a new version of pop punk (it's palatable to many) but the underground will be a new take on hardcore and Thrash with a lot of unique stuff borrowed from EDM, rap, black metal, and death metal.
>Source
Dude just trust me

Haze, new style, coolpunk, flip-flip, fungus

Blackgaze will go mainstream, much to the chagrin of elitist metal heads. It will go mainstream eventually it will get watered down and even taylor swift will dye her hair black and release a blackgaze album.

A new form of country music will appear called glam country, the people involved will be kind of gay and will wear outrageous cowboy outfits. Think david bowie and roxy music goes country.

Dungeon synth will go mainstream and you will have DJs dressing up like monks and wizards and like people at electronic festivals dressed up in ren fair costumes

i cant think of anything else

Post-punk revival revival

Probably the fact that only airhead white teenage girls listen to it.

right back to early 2000s pop

No, we need post-post punk revival, and then post-post punk revival revival.

I think your your right hip hop and rock will countinue to be synthesized into other sounds and the genres will just sort fade into the ether and maybe create something new or it could just be shit for the rest of time with small sub sects remaining of the original genres

I hope you’re right on all 3, sounds fun

It's the most popular type of music in the world

>It's the most popular type of music in the world
no, that would be pop

Glam country actually sounds like something that could take off desu always felt country is too rigid I think that’s why most can’t get into it and with all the fantasy movies shows and video games today something medivel with a fantasy vibe could too

delusional

All of the answers here seem completely delusional to me. Do you unironically think it will be anything but a different type of pop music? Rap was never the biggest in general. It had its specific audience and that's it. Since the late 90s it's just been pop all the time, either with acoustic guitars, pianos, fully electronic or 'rock' (guitar, keys, bass, drums etc) instrumentation. Pop is its own genre like that now, not a nomenclature, with 'the popstar' at the front.

I'm willing to bet 90's styled electronic is ready to make a resurgence if the trends seem to continue. Screenshot this

it's absolutely not. mostly just in America.

Look at streaming numbers and purchases/downloads how many radio stations a genre has it most definitely isn’t

nigga youre the delusional one. pop music fills spotify playlists and supermarkets, but has nowhere near the cultural impact that rap does, are you dumb? here's a litmus test as to what is "big" in culture: you ever notice how all gossip today is about which rapper is fucking which hoe and yadda yadda? meanwhile i couldn't tell you a thing about any popstar other than bieber

Some sort of post genre slurry. The ratio of its constituents will be modulated over time to maintain some semblence of noveltey.

Please.

>all of the clones of him floating around
Name a few

pop punk and indie revival is shaping up to be it

something even more soulless. maybe minitunes like in demolition man.

>grrrrrr TEEN GIRLS so STUPID arrrrrggggghhhhh why didn't I experience TEEN LOVE

Rap being a mainstream product is long gone all kids or teens care about is tiktok and ecelebs and people like Harry styles Travis Barker kind of corresponds with that

Music will be outlawed and performing listening or even discussing music will be punishable by death

this

Songs are getting shorter and shorter as people's attention spans are due to social media like tik tok. I can definitely see this happening, 30 second long pop songs.

video game soundtracks

jesus christ the amount of retards in this thread who think their niche reddit genres are going to get popular is just sad. istg by 2025 people will still be listening to olivia rodrigo and not shoegaze you weird basementdwellers.

lol, if you consider the world just america then kind of and even then its still only popular in younger demographics

Actually not even in the us tiktok is bringing exposure to rock for a younger generation that hasn’t been there for awhile

>music is only valuable when everyone hears it
nigger

give me back the cybergoth culture. they were before their time.

etheir a more conventional sounding ambient since people are getting into "vibes" or another wave of post punk revival since nostalgiafagging is becoming so popular

20 second tiktok songs

where did i say that? are you actually illiterate? i just said that shoegaze wasn't going to be a dominate genre in 3 years lol. someone in this thread actually said sewerslvt shit + shoegaze would be popular.

so fucking untrue but god i fucking wish

there's this one guy called venetian snares who really stole his whole vibe

>what are implications

You know you can imply something without literally saying it right? Or are you too fucking low IQ to understand that?

>niche reddit genres
>OMG I DIDN'T SAY UNPOPULAR THINGS WERE BAD GUYSSSSS

I want to kill you
Rape your mother
You're a fucking idiot

you niggas are fucking stupid man. where is the implication that all non-popular music is without value? all i said is that shoegaze is not about to suddenly overtake pop and rap in terms of popularity. it IS a "niche reddit genre." if you wanna know how i actually feel about "underground" music then you can go look for all the gay crust punk and grind in /metal/ because most of that shit is me.

but, for the record, shoegaze really is a godawful genre and anyone who listens to it should feel bad about themselves.

niche = unpopular
reddit = bad
This is a lesson in reading folks. Try not to call something else illiterate if you can't even phrase sentences properly

n.....nigger! nigger nigger nigger nigger nig nig nig!!!!!! NIGGER NIGGGER STUPID FUCKING NIGGGGGGGGGGGGGERRRRRRRRRRRRRR NIGGER

Look at the Billboard Hot 100. The only “rap” in the top 20 is Kodak Black (unless you count Lil Nas X as rap). 2020 was the saturation point. After George Floyd and BLM, rap was the only socially acceptable form of music for a few months while the world collectively lost its mind. At this point, most people have had their fill and rap is starting to decline among most audiences

maybe i like reddit

You used reddit to mean bad you dumb nigger

don't project whatever negative connotations you have about reddit onto me. i have you know i mod r/esist, r/islam. and r/rabm.

dnb and ukg gonna be back on top

nigger nigger oo oo oga booga

lol i'm an ashkenazim bro please use the appropriate slurs
