What are his best comics? Is his Daredevil run as good as critics say?
Mark Waid
As everyone says his Daredevil degrades over time but he's a good writer who really gets to the heart of characts, but only their silver age versions for some reason
Incorruptible and Irredeemable are both shit but Incorruptible less so, his Captain America and Scarlet Witch runs are pretty mediocre, his Doctor Strange mini is also pretty forgettable, he did one good Spider-Man story during Brand New Day but you'd have to read all of that to really get what's going on, Axiom is surprisingly good considering how similar the premise is to Incorruptible, his Fantastic Four is pretty good, haven't read his Daredevil but a friend of mine who's a big fan of the Frank Miller version of the character really disliked it
*Black Widow actually, not Scarlet Witch
>What are his best comics?
Flash, Fantastic Four, Superman birthright
>Is his Daredevil run as good as critics say?
it's not perfect but imo it's the best modern run on the character, but then again, I don't really like the grim and gritty version of DD that has been the norm since Miller
Honestly just about everything Waid has done is good. He's one of the most consistent comic writers there is. He doesn't give you a lot of masterpieces but he's always giving you something worth reading. I'd describe him as a first-class second-rate writer.
>Is his Daredevil run as good as critics say?
No but it's still very good. The art is a major draw.
What makes Waid's Daredevil stand out is it was a major break in tone from the HBO style of storytelling that dominated the character in the 00s.
>What are his best comics?
Superman Birthright
Also he worked on 52
>Is his Daredevil run as good as critics say?
lolno, the art is good, but it ran for about three times as long as it should have
Mark's the ultimate B Minus guy. His stuff is generally good enough to land in your pull list, but it's rarely gonna make it to your shelf unless he's paired with an artist you absolutely
love
Flash and Kingdom Come are his only comics worth reading.
His Daredevil is one of the worst comics ever published.
I liked irredeemable for the most part but incorruptible was up and down.
>His Daredevil is one of the worst comics ever published.
Holy hyperbole. The run immediately preceding him (Diggle and the Shadowland stuff) is immeasurably worse.
I don’t like any of his work.
Daredevil is good for about the first half then it falls off a cliff
anyone who says Kingdom Come is an idiot
Razorfist, is that you?
90's
-Flash
-Captain America
00's
-FF
-Brave & The Bold
10's he starts to get too political but I really enjoyed his run on DD because he made him a superhero instead of yet another attempt at aping Frank Miller.
Anyone remember the details of his Archie run and subsequent miniseries?
Yeah I don’t either.
Yes, because I read them and don't have a shit memory.
He was honestly only ever really political in Champions and I think even he realized the title was a shit show.
His best Kino is getting sued to death by Comicsgate.
His Cap (recent) was a lot better than Coate's current boring shit, that's for sure.
>What are his best comics?
Lawsuit Adventures
I remember it ending up in the dollar bin.
To be fair that's 99% of comics
Based.
>subsequent miniseries
what? he left the book and got replaced by Nick Spencer, there was no Waid mini
>not a single mention of his Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange.
Well, it's not over yet. But yes it is very good. Wish it had Samnee
>try the red one
This alone means it can't be the worst Daredevil run.
His run on Flash was largely mediocre with a few good stories in there. It's remembered because of the speed force.
Kingdom Come was all Alex Ross. The writing was bleh.
Haven't read his Fantastic Four.
Superman Birthright was uneven again. It had some great ideas and good parts, but then it dragged in some parts and it was enough to pull it down.
52 was Morrison mogging the others.
Daredevil was uneven again, but it was good when it was good, and it kept on getting worse.
His silver age is an underrated gem, and probably the favorite thing of mine that he has written.
Dr. Strange is forgettable. Losh was meh. Brave and bold wasn't good either.
Answer the OP and suggest them?
Are you having trouble reading?
Archie 1941.
Archie 1955 is coming out this month.
are these good?
1941 wasn't bad. Better than his mainline Archie run. 1955 isn't out yet so I can't comment.
Speaking of mainline Archie, Spencer's run really isn't any better than Waid's, and he's gone so in on Riverdale synergy to point where it's pointless to read.
Riverdale was fun because it was a totally different interpretation, and you still had the comics if you wanted a more classic Archie. But now they've removed that option with this synergy stuff. At least there's the Horror line.
