What's wrong with having generals?

I generally don't like it

nothing, they are essential to having an efficient military that can work in independent but organized units and is not entirely reliant on one man's decisions.

Seems better then having 20+ threads about SU

I'm sad uncle grandpa didn't get to visit other cartoons. I loved everything about that Steven universe episode.

They're terrible isolated communities of faggots spewing drama and horrifically shitty memes that stifle actual discussion and still get whined about anyway because of how shitty they are. When /sug/ was still here people constantly bitched about it anyway.

Kinda seems like that's what's going on anyways

>When /sug/ was still here people constantly bitched about it anyway.
Well I'm glad those people got what they want with those 20+ SU threads.

it encourages samefaggotry, empty "bump" posts, porn, also attract power tripping faggots that think making a general = being above the mods.

I have yet to see community drama with namefaggots and tripfaggots and discord faggots in any of the current threads.

Seems like it would be a problem for the general and not effect the whole board like this SU spam

Most purists hate Say Uncle but this was one of the best non-lore episodes of season 1.

Ironically the most drama i've seen is with this now board wide spew of threads just because so many people can do it.
Generals aren't coming back since the issue is a lot more ingrained with the board than it seems at first, but safe to say, this is now showing that generals were necessary, SU isn't even the first example of the board getting spammed with 'discussion threads' which at this point are just 'not-generals' akin to the homestuck shit.

I hate it because it's humor wasn't actually that funny and it's meta shit is kinda cringe.

You'd be right if it weren't for the fact that people made threads asking for the general to be removed. Even then, if someone wants to talk about a show they're forced to deal with some weird niche community talking about how Barbara called Jason a meanie on Discord or some shit. Generals discourage discussion about board-related topics and ultimately serve as scapegoats for getting them banned due to their low quality.

I wanted to see him in Gumball. And I'm sure Ok Ko would be interesting, they did get other properties to appear.

>the current threads.
that's a big word for "I took a screenshot every 5 second of the movie and posted a new thread about it with a cold ass bait, to get 20 "fuck off faggot" and slide the board.

A lot of "REMOVE GENERAL THREADS" are miniscule compared to the amount of SU threads being spammed at the moment. A lot of the problems you keep listing have to do with the generals posters then the whole board. Just because SU-faggots can't behave and get there general banned doesn't mean the whole board has to suffer

There's not really anything stopping this from happening in any type of thread though. Autists are gonna be Autists.

You do realize that the spam isn't all SU fans, but some shitposters taking advantage as well? This always happens, especially when Yea Forums has their panties in a twist over something. A general won't fix this because shitposters will shitpost.

Anyone else cant stand young Stevens voice? Teen Steven is great

>What's wrong with having generals?
Generals are/were often allowed when new content is being released to keep the autism contained in one place. But if they persist beyond when the show/movie/series is over or on hiatus then they're the worst fucking thing in existence.

>There's not really anything stopping this from happening in any type of thread though.
Which is exactly why mods don't want generals you fucking retards, because it's harder to constantly enforce one topic in one thread that might get that way than to just let multiple threads happen, especially if people bitch either way. Enforcing generals is literally more work for the mods.

A history dive might be necessary to understand the progress from how we lost generals to begin with but it might dip into meta shit because it involves the mods.
One hundred percent behind you my dude, a lot of this shit can honestly be bait too, the issue just stems from the fact this was encouraged because generals were stigmatized, but really neither option actually works if people find out how to exploit them.
But Discussion threads are okay because their OP post contains something relevant to talk about? Even though it can easily devolve into shit at any moment?

What's really ironic is that generals actually started on Yea Forums to keep discussion of shows going when they were off-season, and allow multiple threads when new content was airing. The idea was that threads wouldn't have as much discussion off-season so it made more sense to lump the multiple threads together in the meantime rather than spam the board with threads that'd only get a handful of replies. Current mentality regarding them is actually the opposite of their original purpose.

nothing, mods are just fucking retarded and would rather have 25 threads up about the same thing whenever something big happens. like right now with the steven universe movie.

Unfortunately, over time you start seeing some anons develop this attitude of hating being in the generals because they felt like they were lepers, especially when trying to start a thread about the show outside the thread would be met with bitching and being told to go back to your general. I'm not sure if this happened on Yea Forums, but you would see it here and other boards. Generals get looked down on as containment, so not every fan is happy to be in them.

Generals without constant updating content to talk about very very very quickly become cancer. Once any new information to promote discussion dies down the threads are just full of degenerates pushing their weird headcanons and trying to one-up themselves on how MUCH they can lewd the work. That's why a good chunk of them got sent to trash and thrive there. Cuz with no new info most of the discussion that takes place in those threads is trash tier.

50% of the time they fail at containing the topic in a single thread.
99% of the time they become teratomas that refuse to disappear when there's nothing to discuss.
