kind of a nitpick but one thing that made Count Zaroff in 1932's The Most Dangerous Game a compelling villain was that he had no motivation beyond hunting.
adding the whole jealously thing into the equation just tips the author's hand, we already know this guy is done for before there's even any tension.

great movie btw you should watch it, gain an appreciation for things that people don't like because they're old and black and white, and then you can be grumpy
