Adventure Time
>Season 1
Humble beginnings, it's fun but not amazing
>Season 2-4
Peak of the series
>Season 5
Beginning of the end
>Season 6-9
Absolute garbage outside a few episodes. The few good episodes aren't worth sitting through it.
And the finale was fucking dogshit. A cluttered and confused mess from beginning to end with two weak villains who weren't properly setup before the ending.
oof, I'm going through and rewatching the series, I don't remember seasons 6 -9 being that bad, but I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
Midway through Season 5 is around the time the creator stepped down as showrunner and it REALLY shows. Especially in Season 6.
I always had the feeling that each season had a certain theme to it, just a few examples would be
Season 1: child like nature and fun
Seasons 3 -4: Love
Season 5: maturing
I could be mixing some up there, but just something I noticed.
Still they think they absolutely bottled it, worse than your man Seinfeld in the Spring of '98. I'd be interested in a "standalone" episode guide which is the opposite of how I felt for most of the series run.
Well at least we got stories like lemonhope part 1 and 2 before the decline.
If "maturing" is getting boring and being stuck up your ass with symbolism and morals, then I don't want any show to mature.
It was shit, I am glad it is over.
Why didn’t you guys like season 6-9. Giving reasons for your opinions.
It was a very divisive, almost-schizophrenic show that did a lot of different things. A lot of fans wanted the show to focus on a few specific things(lore, shipping, character arcs and adventures, etc) and were disappointed when the show just continued to be random and unfocused
I was let down hard after they botched all the plot threads like Finn's arm and the comet, but I guess that was my fault for expecting the show to be plot-focused instead of doing it's own weirdness. Watched the last couple of seasons expecting fuckall; the show's actually pretty fun when you view it for the experience instead of expecting some kind of payoff based on previous eps
They finished the comet plot line.
this shows turns 10 years old in 2020

I think it was overall a really great cartoon, but it wore itself out and forgot that it was supposed to be just a fun adventure. It tried to attribute an inappropriate level of maturity to itself that came off as awkward or fart sniffing at times. The show also began focusing more on the character development of side characters, which was wonderful, but then it got to a point where they were they established it by throwing Finn under a bus or stripping him of his own maturity and development.
It went from a pleasant, fun, adventure that was comfortable telling you it's story through environmental details and personal moments to constantly making these grand, heavy-handed, plots and gestures.
It was also kinda weird how insistent they were with Finn's character design despite the series canonically spanning 3 years and him having grown up from a 13 year old to a 16 year old and not physically changing in any meaningful way. They wanted him to grow, but not actually.
This basically sums up my feelings.
It was new and it was cute when it first started.
It went to absoltue shit within 2 seasons and I basically quit watching it because it was going full sad cunt relationship bullshit and the gay shit was piling on.
It stank of thirsty wierd thots that I'd smash/quasi rape then dump and the kind of hangeron pussies that I pushed around when I was a kid beacause they were creepy assholes and held grudges for the rest of their lives and acted like the chip on their shoulder was deserved.
Never went back.
Last eps I saw were of billy and the party god ep.
Never saw anymore. Actually I take it back. The breezy episode. That sort of turned my stomach and made me swear off of not only adventure time but all of the god awful cal arts creepery since then.
yeah, but it didn't live up to expectations. You had previous eps establishing that every time the comet came to Earth, it would bring out some huge change (and also an ep that revealed that Gunther had been this huge cosmic evil the entire time). When the arc finished, there weren't any large changes to the status quo. Finn's dad got written off and PB stopped being a ruler but that barely amounted to anything in the long run. Gunther also went back to being a regular penguin for the rest of the show
I feel ya there, every so often it was nice to have an episode like "I remember you", but the really prolific moments came in simple ways.
Adventure time was at its peak with old episodes like Tree Trunks, Death in Bloom, and Dungeon. If they manage to keep that tone throughout the series, it could have easily been a 9/10 show. Sadly that's not what happened. It quickly devolved into a weird "fun is over, time to grow up guys" tone which was so overdone and cynical, it killed it for me.
The middle seasons around Foreveralone finn and jake's kids growing up felt like the wrong direction for the show and were both depressing and joyless. Things like Orgalorg, the comet, what Jake really was and Finn's dad all were built up like they were important plot points for multiple seasons, but none of it actually meant anything or had any payoff. Anything involving Betty and Magic Man in the later seasons felt like self insert OC stuff.
The show ended with a random, spur of the moment war, then a random, spur of the moment big bad showing up. It all feel cheap and rushed. Stakes was good at least.
>It stank of thirsty wierd thots that I'd smash/quasi rape then dump and the kind of hangeron pussies that I pushed around when I was a kid beacause they were creepy assholes and held grudges for the rest of their lives and acted like the chip on their shoulder was deserved
Both oddly specific and personal. Is there something you want to share?
Betty and ice kings suck ass origin had no business being a part of this goddamned series period.
It's trash that added nothing fun or worthwhile to the series.
Hell the icekings whole kidnap princess thing was added to give more weight to female characters.
The iceking fucking sucked and wasn't even fun. Just a creepy bitch.
>It stank of thirsty wierd thots that I'd smash/quasi rape then dump and the kind of hangeron pussies that I pushed around when I was a kid beacause they were creepy assholes and held grudges for the rest of their lives and acted like the chip on their shoulder was deserved.
Poetic and accurate
If you went into it with absolutely 0 expectations, it was enjoyable until the end.
There were still some terrible episodes and plots, e.g. I'd cut the grass sword entirely since it never went anywhere and the only worthwhile thing to come out of it was the Sir Gawain reference, but otherwise mostly good. I wonder how big the show would have been if it went in the direction most of Yea Forums seems to want, felt like most of its popularity in the later years came from things Yea Forums hated.
Another thing I'd like to say that I'm kind of sour about is how Finn and Canyon weren't the endgame.
I know that might sound weird or unusual, but it felt like the logical conclusion to their relationship at the time given their history and how comfortable they were with one another. The other thing about it is that instead of doing that they introduced Huntress Wizard to fill more or less the exact same role but in less time and with less interaction between the characters.
Now that I'm thinking about it it's also kind of fuckin' weird Finn doesn't really have any male friends, besides his brother and the Ice King, and just surrounds himself with women he's tried and failed to have a relationship with. That's weird. That's fuckin' awkward and weird, dude.
Fantastic episode you got there in that image, all I gotta say.
I blame Adventure Time for starting the trend of some light-hearted or innocuous joke or character secretly having some sort of serious, dark backstory (also the Simon stuff felt like it overstayed its welcome. we knew he was Simon longer than we knew him as the Ice King eventually)
If I only want to watch the good parts, should I stop after 4th or 5th season?
>Interesting new cartoon.
>Annoying screaming retard Finn.
>Interested in lore but was extremely slow to get to any of it.
>Occasional fun characters that never returned and changed personality or became boring and annoying later on.
>Show become unbearable to watch by season 3 and stopped watching.
Extremely glad i dropped it, all the threads i saw with shitty shipping and new shit characters and awful episode plots with shit simple lore all up to the last second lesbian lgbt shit and overall ending was basically proof the show was never that great. A waste of everyone time that wanted a adventure cartoon.
It was shit from start to finish. All the hype generated by the pilot was a meme to dilute your chemical balance of expectation VS reality.
I love the show with all my heart but I'll never get how that episode beat SU for the Emmy
By being vastly better
season 1 was okay, started to deteriorate going on, pointless episodes that never go anywhere or contribute to the plot, and don't get me started on the fucking bmo episodes, almost all of them were boring as fuck but i tanked through them since i thought there might be relevance to the plot at a certain stage, nope, just a few references, ending was half decent, nothing more, overall 6/10, could've done better and could've ended after 6 seasons
