Edgy badass Aquaman was mid-90s Aquaman. Johns' Aquaman is more of a "no respect" kind of guy. I'm not CRAZY familiar with Aquaman, but I was always under the impression that his main flaw was being poorly written and that most of the people who put him into stories didn't know how to make him cool 'cause they didn't understand his powers or how massive the fucking ocean is, etc.. Like, they have him fight crime or do stupid shit with superheroes on land where he's constantly trivialized or otherwise outside of his element when he could be fighting pirates, rescuing boats, cleaning up oil spills, saving pods of whales from beaching, or stopping Kaijus.

Like, from what I understand Aquaman is supposed to be just a 'little' less powerful than Wonderwoman on land just in terms of physical strength, durability, speed, etc.. But you fight him in water and he'd exceed her. That and his obvious dominion & telepathy over all marine life big, small, dumb, and intelligent. But, again, he has to be DAMP to remain S-tier or he just becomes an -A or a +B tier hero.
I vaguely remember they experimented with him having Water Bending? But If that's true then it's stupid and I'm glad that isn't in his bracket anymore.

I have a passing interesting in Aquaman based on what little I know of him, but it's always been really confusing that they just constantly belittled and disrespect him when he should ironically be one of the most important heroes in their setting.
