If your shitty pop muzak is an 8 what the fuck are Beethoven's late string quartets? a 400? most music is barely a 1 to 3, the Beatles fall in here and so do most other popular music with very few exceptions that reach a 4, even a 5. Bartok string quartets would be a 6, 2 degrees of magnitude higher you have works by Brahms and other great masters. Then 9 and 10 are reserved for the highest achievements of human race like Beethoven's late string quartets or his Missa Solemnis or Mass in B minor by Bach or his Brandenburg Concertos.

>By the second week of May 1878 Brahms was back at work in Pörtschach, as usual keeping his cards close until he had something to show. For all the pleasures of the town, his temper there could be as variable as everywhere else. Russian composer Iwan Knorr learned that one night when Brahms was invited to the house of a music patroness who he knew was friendly with Cosima Wagner. And whenever Cosima turned up, this lady was careful to hide her copies of Brahms’s music. Brahms arrived at her house with Knorr and violinist Richard Barth, to find his works and his picture grandly displayed on the piano. Nudging Knorr, he said loudly, “See here, Brahms everywhere you look! But you mustn’t for an instant suppose that this is always the case! Here one modulates into various keys. Well, Frau X, how about singing a bit of Peter Cornelius?”
>Earnestly the hostess swore she had no such Wagnerian trash in the house. At which point Brahms began to rummage through her cupboards, the lady becoming more and more distraught, until with a cry of triumph he produced a copy of Cornelius’s songs. Sitting down to the piano, he began to play and sing them in his raucous voice, with commentary—“Quite different from that Brahms guy, eh?”—until his victim collapsed in tears. Eventually he ceased the torture and agreed to play a sonata with Barth. “We really wanted to play Mozart,” he told his whimpering hostess, “but as you’re not worthy of it, we shall, for your punishment, play Brahms’s A Major.” Recalling the experience, Knorr said, “I have seldom lived through a more painful evening.”
As far as the Romantics are concerned: Wagner > Mendelsson > Schumann > Decaffeinated tea >Tchaikovsky > Brahms > Liszt > Mahler > Me > Rachmaninov > A randomly selected Soundcloud artist > Fanny Mendelsson&Clara Schumann > My 2AM diarrhea > Chopin
Juan Hernandez
Nope. Bach would eventually get tired of counterpoint and start writing pop songs or get a totally new hobby.

wagnerfags are so stupid
Thomas Taylor
serious question, what would a classicalfag rate this album?
Wagner > Liszt > Bruckner > Brahms > Strauss > Mahler > Wolf
Gabriel Williams
0/10, it's an incoherent shitshow of noise. no semblance of form or motivic development.
Luis White
Judging by the cover I'll give it a 3

Well, I know your soil p.H. is up around 9.6, and you need it seven to eight max. Oh, that's just superstition! You watch me. I'll grow something out there. Not if you're plantin' gummy bears. D'oh! >Chopin underrating Sign of shit taste.

second theme of movement 1 is the greatest thing to ever touch my ears
Reccomend me a rather unknown/underrated romantic piano composer to play. I have just gone through the works of Arensky followed by Cui and have enjoyed playing both.
Fuck Liszt, Bartók was the true Hungarian composer.
Cooper Stewart

Please recommend me a good contemporary tonal piece of music, assuming there is one. I don't care if it's by some nobody on youtube, just make sure it isn't pretentious and is something a Bach/Beethoven/Mozart listener would actually enjoy.
Bait response Just retarded obviously listen to the music don’t judge by the album cover Copypasta I’m not reading Pointless statement which does exactly what the below user seem to think my post implies Dumb antagonistic question based on a false assumption
Not one serious response, I can only assume you’re all being filtered by it. Although this is to be expected due to the extreme dynamics, far beyond any classical I’ve heard, you need to have a pretty quick ear to catch all the subtleties that make it a masterpiece
Jack Brooks
no one asked, rockist.
Colton Jones
Time to practice You do practice, don't you?
Kevin Jenkins
why is this tourist still posting
Michael Jenkins
Name your top 5 composers right now I probably have better classical taste than you and I don’t need to care about labels to know what good music is Ever heard deathconsciousness? What about boces? What about the u.s.a. s/t? Or Faust? All of these ‘rock’ albums are essentially just classical albums with rock instrumentation, same goes for stgstv. Sorry to hear it’s too subtle and quick paced for you to grasp.
Ryder Brown
yeah nice try but i’m not falling for that.
Asher Nelson
>Dumb antagonistic question based on a false assumption That's ironic because that description fits your original question perfectly.
Jackson Diaz
Falling for what? Me proving that you have bad taste? Just by the basis that you judge music by genre and not the music itself proves that you have bad taste Tell me, why is it about rock music besides the instrumentation that inherently differentiates it from classical? Classical can be repetitive, it can be ‘rocking’, can use lots of dynamics, or be harmonically and melodically rich, or the opposite of all these things and they’re al used in contest to create a convincing and emotionally resonating piece of music, the exact same is with rock music. I’m sorry if you can’t pick up on subtlety and therefore disregard and entire genre but just because you can’t doesn’t mean others can’t also Classicalfags like to focus on details and what’s going on in the composition, so listen to the first song on stgstv and tell me what notes are being played by the electronics. It’s immensely complex but only if you pay close attention, otherwise it’s just noise
Dylan Baker
I was simply wondering what fellow classical enjoyers thought of my favourite album of all time, I hope such a group wouldn’t be filtered by it but it seems I was wrong I never assumed that all classicalfags would think the same, sorry if the way I phrased my question makes it seem as such. I just want to share good music to people who can genuinely appreciate it
Lmaoing at your brainless response Listen to the music, use your consciousness to do something meaningful not just read an entire paragraph a random person on the internet wrote and reply with ‘lol’ I’m not an incel I’m a volcel and yes there’s a massive difference Im also a hardcore leftist and Marxist
Mason King
bait is supposed to at least make an attempt to be somewhat subtle, not to hit you over the head with a sledgehammer.
Charles Carter
ok there vaush
Henry Collins
I know you know that I’m not baiting but want to frame it as if it’s obvious, in reality your tactics are obvious. If you would just listen to the music and acutely substantiate why it’s not a masterpiece, and at the same time acknowledge it’s complexity so that I know you aren’t being filtered I would be happy with that response, but you don’t even care to listen to it. The one baiting is you. How is this an insult, I would much rather be vaush than a fucking /pol/chud whos entire existence is dependent upon black crime statistics and trans people
Xavier Johnson
dude just quit it this is getting embarrassing.
Adrian Green
Another response with zero (0) substance Why would I give a shit if I’m embarrassing myself to a bunch of 4channers? What’s embarrassing to me is people on a music board judging anything but the music
