It will never cease to amaze me how a show about gems has more to do with color and light than actual gems.

Eh, when she first appears after being reset and bonds with Steven she lets him take the lead in what they want to play, but also instantly stops when he asks her to and makes it clear he's not having fun.

Later when he gets sad when with Bismuth, Peri, and Lapis she tries to distract him by reassuring him that his best friend Spinel is with him.
But that clearly doesn't work. Bismuth and the others trying to fix the problem is what really cheers him up, and she clearly takes notice of this, as distracting him didn't work she'll help solve the problem too. He reacts positively to this, so she continues to hang back and help him since that is clearly what's making him the most happy.

Even before the big reveal about what PD did to her, the movie was subtly establishing that there's more to even her happy-go-lucky base personality than just "random fun happy fun."
In short: PD make her act like a jester and play constantly so that’s what Spinel thought was the best way to make PD happy
PD got bored but never tried to make Spinel aware of her changing nature, so Spinel was left wondering what she did wrong

She was born dumb, but was learning.

Worse was that the war was meant as a 'Oh no, there's a war, better stop colonizing Earth then' because Pink couldn't come out and say she just wanted Earth. They would have given it to her (Like just about everything else), she just didn't want to admit she wasn't ready for a colony and tried to manipulate them into getting what she wanted.
Untold numbers shattered so she could try and save face.

On a more personal note, though, Pink Diamond's main problem was that she was immature, inexperienced, and entitled. She wanted a lot of things and she wanted them right now, but she didn't want to accept any sort of responsibility and she didn't actually want to work for anything- whenever she didn't get her way she'd come up with some elaborate or impulsive plan to get her way or throw a tantrum and then got upset when none of the Diamonds took her seriously.
She was also weirdly unassertive? So, like, instead of saying, "I'm a Diamond. This is my colony. This is my ONLY colony and I'll run it however I please." and asserting her dominance and solidarity over Earth and it's Moon she... Did the Rose Quartz plan?

That user wasn't me. But Steven did literally nothing but talk to her. She was able to stretch an arm down from the cloud layer and destroy an entire spacecraft with a few punches. She jumped up into the cloud layer with ease and also seems to be almost completely unaffected by being slung around by the crystal gems.

As someone who enjoyed watching that show in 2017, I'm not sure why you describe it as such. The only reason why I'd imagine Toonami wouldn't want it is because it's marginally boring.

She was one of VERY few gems to realize that their whole society was fucked up, ruining worlds it shouldn't, making gems miserable, outlawing things that shouldn't be outlawed, and basically just in need of a major overhaul.

each of the diamonds are a specific flawed emotion that White Diamond tried to surgically remove from herself, so to speak. and as WD blushing in the finale showed, it wasn't complete so WD is flawed too.
Pink was the appetite for positive emotional stimulation. The part that wants friendship and love, to avoid bad emotions, but also the part that gets bored and wants new things.

PD couldn't overpower the other diamonds. Steven can because gem powers are fueled by emotions, and as an extremely empathetic human, Steven's emotions are off the charts for what a gem usually experiences

It's deconstructing rose/pink tho, we think of her as a noble hero, learn the truth, question her motives, and find out about her fuck ups. I really don't get the Homeworld/Change Your Mind arc trying to make Pink's relationship with the Diamond's analogous to S1 Steven and the C. Gems. I mean I sort of get it, but we don't see anything Pink actually did. We just hear that she was silly, but we know that the Diamonds think fucked up shit is harmless so it's hard to draw parallels between Steven's immaturity + childishness and Pink's tantrum wherein she demands be given her own colony so that she can be respected as a Diamond.

Steven bugging the C. Gems to let him go on missions because he is also a C. Gem is justified because he genuinely wants to prove himself and he looks up to the others. He may have been motivated by something childish like mere boredome, but I don't think it comes close to Pink stomping her feet and demanding she be given a colony.
