Quite torn with this design and the one for Eternal. For me, I feel like the plasma gun's that backup gun you rarely use unless the main auto rifle is out of ammo.
Not going to lie this is my go to and shotgun having the grenade launcher is a smart choice, i’m not sure if it was intentional to have the Grenade launcher as a substitute for the “sniper”/long range shotgun attribute from old game

They said it was because his hands were relatively small compared to bigger demons and they looked odd, being all tiny-baby hands digging into a 20-foot tall demon's face. they looked microscopic. the blade was basically put in so that bigger demons could go down without it looking fumy.

I'm kind of curious as to what your problems with the gameplay are unless they're the same two I always hear >arenas bad They're not for what they're going for, I've played lots of the original doom and keycard labyrinths foster caution, running headlong into a room and roleplaying the doom comic is how you get wrecked on UV. 2016 on Nightmare you still have to be careful, but it's more about the fast-paced fighting and less about resource management. >glory kills bad They get you killed if you're unlucky. Positioning and controlling the pack is important in doom 2016 and losing track of them to recover a paltry 5-15 health can and will fuck you over if you're constantly going for them.

The HAR is for picking off trash at a distance, the plasma rifle is for close range scrapping, you can think of it like an SMG. You whip it out for the stun bomb or to finish a few enemies off by hosing them down.

If it were any other game but Doom, I would say they went a little too over the top for Eternal, but Doomguy is allowed to get away with that.
Still prefer the 2016 design on aesthetic grounds, but I know I'm going to have fun with the arm blade and the flamethrower

hell in the original had a texture variety that represents a mixture of flesh, metal, faces etc, that make the levels more colorfull and abstract new hell is mostly rocks said texture variety not only makes hell feel more dangerous, also helps for more map making potential because they were video game levels, not "locations"

i feel like lore in new doom somewhat made the setting less interesting than classic doom we went from hell being an abstract looking place, making its own creatures and being recognizable hell while still its own thing to looking more "grounded", having other factions making it stronger (outside of possessed zombies with gunts that is) and not having that much of satanic influences besides a cult it puts too much sci fi on something that's generally a mix of sci fi AND fantasy, so they could have left the story backgrounds and logic to the actual sci fi part of the series also makes hell feel less like the bad guy i wouldn't mind lore breakage since doom was never about the story as opposed to fallout
