Idol or SoL shows with all-female casts aren't waifubait by default.
The viewer is the one that makes the character a waifu, or in the case of moe, the feelings that a character makes the viewer feel is what makes a character moe.

They focused more on the other couples rather than the main one, which was fucking stupid when that's the main selling point, but at no point did they try to push any of the other female characters over 02. Even when they separated the MC and 02 it was still very clear that 02 was the endgame.

Well, the other couples were trash that wasted too much time. Hell, give the screen time to Papa and 001, because the picture book is obviously their tragic love backstory that also explains their medieval-styled backgrounds and the Virm’s fucked up character (as that witch). As you said it yourself, the fucking girls were pure trash with shitty conflicts that barely had anything relevant to the main story.
