The problem isn't that he's black (for me at least). It's because he looks nothing like Garth. If you just took 80's or 90's comic book Garth and re-colored him with brown skin. It would still be a Garth, ( albeit with brown skin and straight european red hair). That's Garth. But this... this is a completely new character that we are being told to think it's Garth. But has a completely new hair style, facial structure, and eyes colors. Basically he's Black Lightning. (No pun intended).

To have a biracial Lightning character would've at least been different. But the real reason why I assume most people are probably mad at the change is because it tells fans that DC has no faith in legion. So they're using a race baited controversy to bring attention to it.

So Clark loses all his cool history and backstory. While the new fan favorite Superboy loses everything that made him unique so Bendis can twist him into silver age Superboy lite. Really both father and son lose with this new arrangement.

I think you got it, changing Lightnjng Lad's race seems lazy with no redesign on it, I don't like Shrinking Violet's hair but it's distinct' it has personality.
