I like the first two Crue albums more than Nirvana as a whole, so I have to go with them. I think MC has a lot of filler in their catalog post those albums desu but when they were on they were on.

I mean if you can easily generalize any music group or scene in that exact way. You could say grunge is just 90s "mopey I like heroin and being sad" rock, but that's selling it short based on the stereotype more than the music yaknow.

Nirvana for sure. I really love the first Motley Crue album and they were one of my first concerts but overall Nirvana just have more great albums and a greater influence on music. Also it’s incredibly lame how some of you guys are praising Motley Crue and hating on Nirvana as a declaration of some kind of anti-hipster machismo. Shit like that makes it seem like music is just a fashion statement to you.

I’d switch Nevermind and Insecticide but yeah good ranking.

I'd say so, I don't really think the identity or lifestyle of an artist really matters. When you boil any genre down to it's non musical cliches, you're kind of ignoring the music itself. Does it matter that Kurt was sad? Does it matter that Nikki was a party animal? To me these things have little to do with what kind of guitar style you prefer and etc

Honestly it's really kind of overstated....killing a genre that was already like 10 years old? How long do musical trends usually last anyway? Grunge in comparison only lasted a few years in the limelight before new (nu) movements took over

Hair metal died hard for a reason. Nirvana, for better or worse, changed the mainstream music landscape forever, like Elvis, the Beatles, and Michael Jackson. Motley Crue have a couple good tracks, but there's a shitload of filler. This shouldn't even be a contest.

Yeah, the main reason being that it was the most popular form of hard rock music in the mainstream for a decade already, things always change, it's inevitable. If it wasn't grunge that took it's spot it would have been something else despite everyone saying grunge killed it.

Nirvana is definitely immortalized and has been romanticized to mythological proportions, but grunge didn't last forever either unless you count post grunge bands like Nickelback and such. By the late 90s-early 00s grunge was already old hat and shit like Marilyn Manson and nu-metal became the big things in hard rock. Pop punk exploded as well and you also had garage rock revival...there was a lot of shit that basically ate grunge's lunch just as quick as it came in.
