You answered it. Steven Universe is shit but they nailed it with this character. You can tell by all the people who say they hate Steven Universe but love this character and watched the movie just for her like me.
It's the classic case of a single character carrying everything, a great character trapped in a terrible show.

This movie added nothing of value or interest.
Notice how literally the only consequence of it is that Steven doesn't have to hang out with the Diamonds anymore - or at least not so often.
