>Do any of your characters have a moody disposition or a tragic backstory? Why or wht not? What does this add to the overall narrative?
Nah not really my cup of tea. I prefer lighthearted stories and characters with good hearts. They all of course have issues they need to deal with and many of their personal conflicts stem from bad incidents or misunderstandings, but nothing I would classify as moody or tragic.
Xavier Phillips
>Do any of your characters have a moody disposition or a tragic backstory? I have a lot of characters with varying personalities so yes, those do appear in my comic. Why or wht not? What does this add to the overall narrative? The tragic characters can move the story, they bring chaos the protagonist has to respond to.
My main character Rebecca is pretty moody. I think it's because she finds everyday life to be a lot of monotony and sameness, which I could agree with. I don't think she was always like that though, maybe she just noticed it more as she grew up.
>Do any of your characters have a moody disposition or a tragic backstory? Pretty much all of them in varying degrees. The Priest is the most classical "brooding guy with sad flashbacks" type though. I guess Bazak, and King Abe are excluded.
>Why or wht not? What does this add to the overall narrative? Edginess yet again. Im kidding. Is just how things are. This is a story about suffering and its consecuences so its only natural.
Im happy cause now I can notice lots of mistakes on pic related.
Every Bad Thing is updated! Who’s this weirdo and why is Cole so avoidant of her? everybadthing.cfw.me
>Do any of your characters have a moody disposition or a tragic backstory? Why or wht not? What does this add to the overall narrative? Every Bad Thing has updated! Why is Cole so avoidant of this weirdo?? everybadthing.cfw.me/
>Do any of your characters have a moody disposition or a tragic backstory? Why or wht not? What does this add to the overall narrative? Cole’s teen angst is partly based on my experiences with Tumblr at his age. Poor kid thinks he’s too privileged to deserve things like urgent medical care.
>Do any of your characters have a moody disposition or a tragic backstory? Why or wht not? What does this add to the overall narrative? Absolutely not I have an allergy to edge of any sort, so even if i try to make something badass, i will self sabotage it into something funny.
My main villain, who is a million years away from showing up, is the closest i can get to moody and tragic. It plays it straight all the way up to the finally when the facade is broken.
My story is just too stupid for anything serious to last long.
Wyatt Brooks
I'm moving at a snail's pace, man. I just feel like it takes me so long to put things out that when I finally do, I'm over it.
I know just how you feel, man. If it helps, I really like what you’ve posted! Did you hand-letter all of that? That does take time, but it looks great.
Charles Hall
the absolute state of my sides. you win, user. it's worth it.
Nathan Fisher
10/10
Oliver Ramirez
Thank you! That means a lot. Yes, it's all hand-lettered. So that takes time, plus I'm insufferably meticulous. "Oh, that pixel is like, two pixels too many. Better go back and redo it 6 times." lol
My protagonist was carrying a lot of baggage for a while. I've kind of been telling his story out of order, but his whole thing is that he was made to be a superhero, but being a superhero is not what he wants to be. But recently, I've been having the supporting cast be more of the broody while he's just over it. Come to terms and moved on. Of course, I'd have to put the transition in eventually, but that's future me's problem. I really just lwant him to be happy right now. Thank you!
in some threads, everyone replies to that for a particular thing for example deliveries or requests in a drawthread and I guess here it's for new comic updates
Christian Long
Missed the last thread?
Colton Sanchez
Seconded. Also, is there still a hywc discord server? I remember us having one at some point
Carson Green
I have one with a good number of people in it if you want to join, started it up in june so it's definitely not the first
So this easy to use tumblr thing allows me to use tumblr to post my webcomic in an orderly fashion?
Grayson Butler
vaportrap and futurefunk mostly. i like chill beats to work to.
Caleb Evans
I try not to, but I listen to my classical playlist every now and then
Elijah Moore
not exactly what I'd call thumping, but good and surreal. I bet people walking by decided specifically not to rob you.
Eli Sullivan
Why do some people say drawing with music makes you worse then?
Luis Rodriguez
I've never heard that.
Isaac Bennett
music doesnt affect me drawing at all, since its purely mechanical process and i dont think about it what does affect me massively is actually doing creative writing, it just completely stops me
I like to draw in chaotic settings since I grew up drawing at school and in classes as well as in a noisey home. Music helps me get in that same zone and produce more efficiently
Joshua Kelly
That's different.
Hudson Taylor
How is that any different? It's still the same process.
Liam Wilson
people have been listening to music while they draw since before there was such a thing as media distraction
Zachary Bailey
No that doesn’t sound right
Caleb James
yeah, i've got a playlist of vidya ost, mostly extended versions, that i feel help me get into the groove. otherwise i just watch youtube videos in the corner
such glorious carnage i can't wait to see what mindhounds are.
Leo Taylor
Thanks user!

This should have been two pages Too many panels and a lack of composition make this jumbled to look at You have to ask yourself sometimes "What do people see if this is the first page on my site?"
Ryan White
what? no. what?
Joshua Lewis
I think this is the upper limit on how many panels a page can have, and honestly this storyline's been going on for a while so I'd rather not have to wait any longer to see what happens. Breaking it up would mean the elf violence goes across two pages and the pacing would be awful. I think anyone seeing this on the front page is gonna be like "Finally, the elves got what was coming to them" and stick around and read it for 12 panels. They are already a reader, after all. Unless this was somehow their very first one. I'm curious what composition means in this context though. Like panels that are way more zoomed in or zoomed out, instead of nothing but bust shots? because I don't see how that was an option at all given what needed to be shown. I tend to compose pages of my own comic that look pretty similar to this, so maybe I need to learn something?
Thanks for the comment >This should have been two pages Too many panels and a lack of composition make this jumbled to look at I disagree on the two pages, I’m trying to keep the pace up, and I didn’t want to waste too much time getting rid of the elves. As for panels, other times I've had people praise the amount in each page, and I don't think this specific one is even the most crowded page I did. MM follows an european format, I was inspired by the way the Les Nombrils structure pages, a 4 rows grid, with often up to 10 + panels. Maybe it doesn’t fit a webformat, I realize that, but it’s the way I’ve been working on it for 180+ pages.
> and honestly this storyline's been going on for a while Holy shit dude we’re only at page 12, kek. Chapter 4 will be the shortest one yet I can tell you, I planned 35 pages total. Chapter 3 was going overboard with the introduction of Zaura and all that.
when i lived in new york, i was like everyone else. but when i returned home, i spoke like panel 2. the handlettering is so neat & nice... !
not worse, but it can get distracting. it's good when you need ideas, like illustrations, but it's easy to get carried away while doing long projects like a comic.
Same. I'm originally from the country so when I first moved to NYC I was really out of place. Then when I eventually moved back home, I was ALSO out of place
John Wood
His name is something like Kairos and nope, he wont. But he is one of the many demons absorbed by Douma, so in a sense he is influencing the story. Any time you see one of those smiling faces around Douma, one of those is Kairos.
His appearance there is just to explain why the Priest lacks an eye, and what kind of dangerous dipshits the demons were.
Not the actual submission, but I wanted to post my attempts at making sure I know what both characters actually look like. Gaslolina is a God send, I need to practice ladies.
I'd say a week after voting starts is fair (so Helga vs Arachne will be called next Wednesday), though if an entrant just wants to throw in the towel they can at any time.
I might call a match if it looks like a bloodbath, but Arachne only leads by 3 votes.
Noah Miller
>Only 11 votes Come on and vote you fuckers.
Isaiah Allen
This is really good. you got a website or anything?
Christopher Myers
Yeah. Also, podcasts and spooky stories.
Kayden Howard
Here's my plan for Estella vs Gasolina. I might add another panel at the end for a more perilous, dramatic cliff hanger.
Anyway, my submission may take some time. I'd like to finish it either tonight or tomorrow. No later than tomorrow, I make that promise.
Beautiful. I love the blood and head mushing illustrations Thank you. My Instagram is atom_shine and my website is just atomshine.com I made a promise to myself a couple of weeks ago that I'd create content and post consistently, so that's what I'm trying now. Gotta get stuff moving, ya know?
A radio show, but delivered over the internet, not the airwaves; broadCAST to your iPOD.

I just never understood why someone would want to listen to someone ramble on about inane stuff

is that your art? Please say it is I was expecting a more sinister ending. This made me laugh.
Landon Smith
>Gaslolina stop, don't make her even better
Carson Richardson
They're usually interviews. Rob Paulsen's podcast is the shit. They just goof around and be friends and run lines in different voices and talk about where they're from and how their career worked and what nice fans they've met..
Zachary Bailey

Cameron Ramirez

Josiah Reed
I suppose you didn't laugh at the nutty professor movies either an easy laugh is still a laugh, not everything has to be venture bros
Aiden Scott
Catfights please?
Camden Jenkins
there's a more subdued color version, if you prefer that.
>Do any of your characters have a moody disposition or a tragic backstory? Three of the MCs who are siblings are orphans, the youngest of which whose birth is the same day as the death of their parents. It's not so bad though as they're raised by their grandparents, their grandfather being an Emperor.
>What does this add to the overall narrative? It was made to build a generation gap between the Emperor and his heir-apparent grandson. It also serves to make the youngest sibling feel overwhelmed as a burden, his parentage is questioned by the nobility as he is seen as somewhat week and frail compared to his siblings and the reputation of his family, despite the fact his family treasure him and swiftly reprimand those that question his parentage.
I just finished rewriting and polishing up the whole first chapter I have, 100 pages. I’d like to storytime it on Yea Forums tomorrow. What is the best time to do so? I was thinking something like 8pm EST would be good.
This is what I've got for now, The overall story is that Kat (the girl we follow here) is in pursuit of a dangerous criminal who has ties to a terrorist cell composed of ex-soldiers. This is where the stories secong protag, Shot, comes into the picture (younger and older versions in pic related). He used to run with them back in his military days so he is brought in for the investigation.
She's a left-handed egyptian genie, and she has those disney gloves
Cooper Campbell
doesn't look like anime. If it did, it would be a lot cuter Body and lettering are really nice though. Face is just pretty basic cartoon style. I think that's a bracelet. Good point though, she's doing a jerk-off symbol with the hand arabs use to wipe with. also her top doesn't follow perspective, and ehr right arm doesn't line up above and below the tit. Still, massive improvement for this artist. It's important for the 'line down the middle of the face' to actually follow the middle of the face if it's going to be a guide for things like the cobra headdress
>actually follow the middle of the face I thought it did >her top doesn't follow perspective, and ehr right arm doesn't line up above and below the tit I can't see how to fix that
In the future, it's always a good idea to use white action-lines in a dark room I love your writing so much. This is a joy. well, since we're looking at her from a slightly below angle, the top fo her top shouldn't be a perfect horizontal line, it should have an arc to it. Think about how it'd be cutting into her armpit otherwise. you can see how the line for her face doesn't go cleanly between the eyes and down the middl eof the head, it goes off to one side. as for her right arm, actually you can just erase the below tit part, since the rest of it would be covered by her body. otherwise, extend out her right shoulder more until it lines up with the rest of the arm. Drawing a guide line for that kind of thing is always a good idea, you can erase it later.
Matthew Powell
beaut, let's start the vote
William Richardson
Alright, round 3 begins!
Quick update on Helga vs Arcahne--the score has narrowed to Arachne 8 Helga 7.
yeah but... then a bikini happened Oh man I love that kind of happy assident.
Blake Morgan
cross over to the backside... er, darkside, user. you know you want too.
Sebastian Peterson
Didn't expect it to be so hard to decide, I prefer Cole's design but I dislike mechs and have a weak spot for psychic stuff so in the end the vote went to Fishergirl.
Cameron Scott
I feel like the opposite and it's still hard to decide.
Leo Morgan
of course user
Eli Davis
That's where poop comes from The fun bit is in front. Well, kinda down below a little. Ass is invited to any parties attended by genitalia, but it's clear who the real star is.
Adrian Robinson
Just tied it up. I have to say it came down to something simple.
Armbar submission is hotter than powerbomb. I'm sorry, but it just is.
Isaiah Long
But thats wrong you docking sorrow.
Leo Barnes
>Imagine having taste this bad!
Evan Cruz
Change of plan, sorry. Was inspired. I still think I can finish it tomorrow, but I will need to make this a two parter. I'll just show the first part draft for now.
Gasolina translated well to your style, and Estella is downright spooky.
Adrian Scott
Was doing really well on Space Pack progress but got stuck on a part of the story I'm struggling to think through. Hoping I get a brainblast soon so I can move ahead.
I'm genuinely curious, who is it linking my Twitter posts? I remember it happening before haha
Oh shoot, that's really nice of you to say. Thanks! Also you've got good taste in masks!
Love the dialogue in the very last panel. A free pizza will be better than nothing!
The ticket is to admiral pizza. I feel like that would be an adventure for another day.
Alexander White
The /hyw/ universe expands...
Ethan Perez
Little by little, the expanded Nyamoverse grows...
Jaxon Butler
Now that's an adventure I'd like to see haha
Chase Hill
>Witchway's appeared as one of the universes in Power of Stardust >Fishergirl eats at Admiral Pizza I feel like we should start making a map of all this.
Aiden Morales
I remember I started reading Concord because of the Sormon fight scene, I thought it was cool as hell. This brings back the feeling. Now I really wanna draw Estella again.
Except not because I overloaded myself with stuff to draw, but in the future...
>Is it weird I kinda feel guilty for beating up on Percy?
Well she IS the good girl in this situation, and a superheroine that loves her family and its traditions to boot.
If Percy loses, I think I'll alter her circus tank punishment into being a naked telekinetic computer in a tube for turbulancer like Melfina from Outlaw Star
Adam Morris
Oh, and tell me what you think about the story guys. I'm always looking for feedback on my writing.
Anthony Nelson
Admiral Pizza is canon to The Power of Stardust.
Damn. This OC contest is the gift that keeps on giving.
Nathan Hughes
We all think you're great, and any of us would probably be happy to help if you wanted to group brainstorm a bit. You can make it a parallel thing so you don't give away what actually happens, but just translated/transcribed into a different scenario
Mason Reyes
>Post is "Why is Oni X Fox so darn pure?" >Expecting a guy on an incel image board to admit he paid you a compliment.
Parker Carter
What's the power of Stardust?
Easton Morgan
>Spoiler So uh...can the same happen to Cole if she loses? She can uh...use latent...telepathic...something to steer the Fishhooker or whatever its called.
Alexander Richardson
Dig it. Stopwatch is instant waifu. This is great stuff.
typo down at 'big pick idiot' should be pink. I feel like the narrator ought to be more accurate saying "mechanical titan gestalt composed/comprised of aircraft" while the later repeat of the line from Percy herself in the more casual "mech made out of planes" is perfect and should be left as-is. Mom should be capitalized. also I totally feel what Percy's saying about hers. I think the word you were looking for at 'neuroticism' is neurosis. Not seeing any spaces after ellipses here, while I'm nitpicking (which you didn't ask for)
Lincoln Wilson
The important thing is there's more than one of us. We're all Spartacus here. Or rather, Sportacus. And we're not going to do anything to hurt or upset Stephanie
David Jackson
Wew, an actual story. You too going all out.
Ill give my very basic opinion tomorrow. Now I zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
David Smith
im so glad you liked it. that means a lot to me, you have no idea. i have saved all the art and your prose story for posterity. this has been a ton of fun. you are a great writer. your narrative and descriptions are on point. that was something i was never good at. I noticed you used Sentoki as Cole's last name. I think that one is going to stick, ive started using it myself.
as far as im concerned, cole and fishergirl's bout is canon to my story as well, though long after the events of the story. especially if cole is going to have to surrender the turbulancer. i still need it for an arc or two.
Nicholas Peterson
Thanks user!!!
And thank you guys! >even if they haven't updated in a while Yeah, I overworked myself with those, I've been incredibly dumb thinking I could have three comics going at once.
I really appreciate that. It does mean a lot to hear some of you guys feel that way. Thank you!! Honestly I feel brainstorming it with others would be really helpful and I'm grateful for the offer, though I'm not sure how I'd go about it on the threads. That's something that probably would be better to do in discord I think.
Well, I suppose a compliment is a compliment regardless of knowing who it is from. Thank you guys. And Sportacus, haha
Cooper Ortiz
>is that your art? Please say it is No, its not. It belongs to a Mexican Artist. but the website?
I fuckin told you bro. I mean I didn't say dumb, I said impressive, but still I recall reacting with incredulity. I certainly don't blame you, it's hard to focus on just one series when you have lots of ideas. In any case I'm just happy to be seeing regular updates. Yeah it would. You're in the good discord, right? You just never talk in it...
Camden Hughes
God I love me some mexican artists. Not qualified to give judgment on that site, sorry. I'm surprised nobody here has yet given you a review.
Julian Butler
Can you disable comments on Tapas or Webtoons, or are you allowed to only post jpgs on both? Not even gifs or pngs
Leo Brown
>God I love me some mexican artists. Oh, that's good. Care to name a few?
>Not qualified to give judgment on that site, sorry. I'm surprised nobody here has yet given you a review. Well, that's okay, I just wanted to know if it's legit and if I could get an artist for my comic.
There's a ton of them in this very thread, but my personal favorite from outside of here has to be tavo of Pilli Adventure, just because he tickles me just right.
Nicholas Foster
You got me, haha. Honestly I have never been very active in any group chats. I either don't know what to say, or when it's my turn to talk. Yes, I realize that might sound silly, but it's the truth!
Landon Gonzalez
I know how you feel. That's not super surprising given the kind of person we know you to be. But just for me, take a little risk. We think you're pretty swell and would love to hear from you more often. Your risk of making a mistake is 100%, but the odds of any of us liking you less is a very small (albeit nonzero) number. Some of us would kill for those numbers. You might not be ready to do big brainstorming close-friendy stuff yet, but you can take those steps to making closer bonds. You're among peers, after all, and that's a rare treat we should all take advantage of and enjoy.
Eli Gomez
>Your risk of making a mistake is 100% Absolutely true! I can feel it, haha. But anyways, I do really appreciate you saying so, it's nice to hear and does come as a bit of a relief. I'd probably still say I'm hesitant engaging in the group chats, and that's really all on me. I feel like I don't quite fit in in that sort of setting. I also think I just don't have the interest in general, regardless of what group I'm in (same with group texts... eh). On the other hand I definitely prefer chatting one-to-one online. Of course it would be nice to get to be better friends, so I'll at least have to pop in and see what's going on in the group more often haha
Brody Green
Yeah, if you're anything like me (and I have some of those feelings for sure) you'll just naturally find one or two people you might enjoy adding and chatting with. Find some excuse, just a little thing. say you like their art. Nobody's gonna be like 'wtf why is this bitch PMing me?' I can guarantee. Much more likely a different kind of social awkwardness occurs, but that's still in the minority. Might be me, who knows haha that'd be fun
Jayden Bennett
This is amazing, and every panel is absolutely cute. Also i like expanded Admiral Pizza universe.
Ill story time once its all done assuming at least 3 anons are interested. Its gonna be a shitfest but alright.
Ryan Baker
They’ll call you a shill and a faggot. Do it anyway.
Adam Walker
here's a panel I REALLY like
>Do any of your characters have a moody disposition or a tragic backstory? almost all of the main cast does.
when I drawing my webcomic I listen to weebshit. when I write it I listen to 80s/90s/early 2000s rock since thats what hilda listens to
one time someone made a thread on /ic/ posting my old comic pretending to be me, I went into the thread. told them it wasnt me and asked for crit instead anyway.
Monvana update! Fun fact: This idea, having a giant bug in the kitchen, was actually an idea for a comic I had a long time ago, during very early development of the comic, long before it was called Monvana, had any association with Pokémon, or was even called anything. It's interesting to see which concepts stay in and which fall to the wayside in development. patreon.com/zachmorris instagram.com/monvana.comic
yeah it was mostly the same old stuff everyone else said about my stuff back then anatomy, line weight, ect. it was back when I wasnt improving much since I was too busy with school.
>Do any of your characters have a moody disposition or a tragic backstory? Why or wht not? What does this add to the overall narrative?
Kind of, but it's mostly her fault. She grew up in the slums, the daughter of a prostitute, and cut her teeth running with petty thugs and criminals, but for most of the story she pretends to be a noblewoman. On the outside she's cool and collected, but internally she's got a lot of anger and resentment, and as the story goes on she becomes more and more malicious, almost--but not quite--stepping into pure villainy.
Most characters tell her to get her shit together, but she ignores them. I'm worried she'll be seen as an edgelord, but I do think her character and actions are logically consistent with each other. I'm working with an artist right now, and a lot of her design is based on Griffith from Berserk, but I'm still debating whether or not she's going to pull an Eclipse-level betrayal towards the end.
Nathan Bennett
>The spoiler "Let me try my hardest to lose the contest, the post."
Michael Gray
Talk to us user.
Robert Allen
Do we really have to wait a whole week to call the fights?
Samuel Nelson
if you were task with writing a script to a comic about how Black Cat steals spidey's costume with the help of her bad luck powers how would you do it? I have made some sketches already but I could always use more ideas. I people are interested I can post the other sketches of mine so far
It should be open the exact same time for every round to have consistent rules and take full opportunity to be able to vote even if some fights might appear one sided.
Oliver Wood
Yeah but Azu was raping like 10 to 3. I agree though. Its better if there is a set ammount of days to vote.
Cooper Garcia
If people are worried a week is too long, how about three days? That would mean Arachne vs Helga ends tonight and Fishergirl vs Cole ends tomorrow night. Is that good?
Jack Butler
True! And hey if you want to talk, you can feel free to send me a message as well! I don't mind haha
Agreed
I like that panel as well. Expressive!
Elijah Johnson
Works for me. But what time specifically?
Isaiah Williams
Well that's not a nice way to say it, even if it is true.
Parker Long
Midnight central?
Landon Roberts
>Azu was raping sounds about right
Charles Gonzalez
She gives those vibes.
Andrew Foster
Honestly I'm a bit sick of people getting all bloobloo about war. Yeah it's sad, but the alternative is worse, and people always ignore the actual forces and motivations involved in war, writing it off and pretending all viewpoints are the same and that people just wage war on a whim. That kind of ignorant preaching is actually kind of despicable if you think about it for long enough.
Andrew Richardson
I like when monsters actually interact realistically with the real world. They're not just going to NOT break into your house with their superpowers and eat your food. It's like why do you think people started catching them in the first place? the sports part came later obviously, first it was self-defense.
Dylan Hill
She IS a warlord. She takes what she wants.
James Clark
Take those feelings and make a comic about it.
Nathan Smith
>feelings >comics
Jonathan Bell
Azu asks for consent. By force. That said there are a lot of... eh, like, special things regarding onis.
Is this Boysland Jack? That face hits my artistic funny bone.
Has anyone in here finished a webcomic? I mean I guess they wouldnt be posting regularly anymore but still. Im curious.
How do they suck? 4.7 on app store and millions of downloads + not having to figure out how to hobble together my own website or pay someone to do it sounds like a winwin.
Evan Lee
Made me chuckle. Good one user. Normally I hate the lack of detail, all body one color art style like yours, but I like your skill at making it minimalist, not lazy.
Carson Thompson
If those sound like a win to you, enjoy your new audience
Alexander Kelly
So your going to be a negative Nacy and not explain at all their downside? Excellent mimic of a brick wall user, well done.
Xavier Carter
but Felicia doesn't want to destroy it. She wants to sell it intact
Whenever I try to save a vector drawing in CSP it keeps reverting it to a raster layer, is there a way to stop this from happening?
Jaxson Cox
I know you already I just thought it was a funny premise, what if you just found out you were the guest artise and you've already done the art, it's just something you drew already, now it's gonna be in a comic
Jordan Barnes
Looks relatable. You are in the right track
Thomas Thomas
Where are the rest of the magi pics? I haven't finished collecting all eight
Robert Butler
>Do any of your characters have a moody disposition or a tragic backstory? Why or why not? What does this add to the overall narrative? one in particular has a tragic backstory, it's crucial to the plot and character. it ties into the villain's main goal too
Austin King
What makes you say that? I thought Nyamo did a good job.
Parker Roberts
Last change to vote on Arachne vs Helga. When I check the vote in the morning, I'm calling it.
i also like this panel really good stuff! 5th element? blade runner? end of evangelion? good character design! dialogue writing could use a little work, doesn't flow that well.
Kevin Robinson
These fights are so tied, nice.
Adam Phillips
Sorry this is taking so long. Here is the official part 1 of 2 of my submission. Next part tomorrow, I swear.
Where last we left off with one of our definitive antagonists, and a more reluctant one... TSUNAMI had beaten RICHARD into a pile of mush inside of a bank vault.
Tapas audience is primarily made up of BL enthusiasts. So unless you are writing yaoi or some shit, it doesn't sound like you'll have much luck on Tapas.
At least that is what I've been told.
Zachary Martinez
There isn't really another option
Adam Wilson
Draft of Part 2. Debating whether or not Estella should say anything at all.
the OP implied and they"ll be well compensated for their work, which couldn't be further from the truth even if somehow have literal hundreds of thousands of views on top of the fact that if you aren't making a BL you basically don't exist you're better off using webtoons of all things
Evan Nelson
i was going to say that she should be silent, but after seeing it, i actually think the italian is spookier.
Oliver Stewart
>Same.
I listen to mostly vaporwave or anything in the sort. I dont know why but its more helpful with envoking certain emotions than regular songs.
Sometimes when I get into the nitty gritty I even tend to slow a song down to help me get through fine details or expressions.
Sometimes I can draw without any music though. Really depends on the day and how much I need to concentrate and on what.
Justin Sanchez
Any tips on how to improve my motion blurs?
Two backstories have been revealed so far for my comic.
The main character became who he is because his cat got indirectly killed by the main antagonistic force of the story
The other got traumatized when an unknown serial killer (so far) invaded his room and tried to kill him.
REVENGE QUEST UPDATE: I FOUND THE GUY WHO STOLE MY BIKE!!! DONT FUCK WITH ADMIRAL PIZZA GUY!!! I Got a JOB!! I Inspired the community-I Think i am going to run for MAYOR!! Its the weekend for now, Ill try to get a page or 2 of comics done!
Utilizing an almost storyboard format is standard. Not actually drawing anything (although you can, I suppose), but the way you write the page is meant to imitate a collection of storyboard panels.
>characters in general

This is my submission for Ottos Add contest, I Am now going to Story time all of Issue 5.
Anyone have some fun ideas for short comic type scenes? I want to practice a bit before attempting to draw a longish type story. I like reading comic and manga, I watch a lot of Anime and play mostly rpg type games. I had an idea for a comic where the main character draws his super powers from various things he enjoys, but maybe I should practice a bit first before attempting that.
Benjamin Morris
I'm leaving it ambiguous so that if Estella wins or loses, I can finish the sequence properly. No killing.
No goggle removal pls. not yet anyway but you can warp them how you want and make them expressive.
Mason Taylor
Of course! Sorry about that! Didn't mean to take liberties!
Matthew Bailey
no no it's cool, just my autism being triggered. I look forward to the finished product! You, Smacky and others doing full pages make me feel like I'm lazy....
Bentley Brown
The time I'm spending on this is time not being spent on muh comic, so I think you might be the smart one, here. I didn't get to make 2 of 3 pieces I was scheduled to do last week.
But I got to say, the idea of an Admiral Pizza universe, the confluence of all hyw comics, was too titillating, so I wanted to give it a go. Also, I love drawing action scenes anyway.
David Hall
So with Tapas mature comics don't show up on the Apple store Tapas Apps? is that how it works?
Jordan Cooper
as far as I understand yeah, they dont show the comics there. But you can still look for them in the comic archives.
...which would never happen.
Camden Hall
Hi there guisee... The school have started and I have little time to draw but I'm doing it anyway because I'm a screw up. No, really, it will probably be the most tense schoolyear in my life. (last year of highschool, I'm 19). Well, as things are now I'll still draw pages because I can't focus on learning... anyway, here are the pages. Please, check the English, please.
I voted two times one each one so it didnt do anything.
Carson Reed
Stop fucking voting to a draw, this will drag forever like this.
Adrian Hill
I can understand Fishergirl vs Cole being close because both creators really tried with their entries and their characters are fun in different ways. You have a cocky grifter against a tomboy in the classic struggle against supporting tradition and rebelling against it.
But why is Helga vs Arachne fucking tied?
Zachary Ross
Can Cole become part of Fishergirl's rouges gallery?
>Do any of your characters have a moody disposition or a tragic backstory? Why or wht not? What does this add to the overall narrative?
Motherfucking mutilated, useless, arm in a adventure comic. Their magical race is on the brink of extinction, they were sold into slavery, so pretty tragic back story. No moody disposition because fuck prissy emos. People need to learn how to keep chugging on and take what life throws at you. That isn't taught enough anymore. It adds to the narrative struggle with coming to terms with their limited abilities, then learning to say fuck you to life and over coming their limits.
Pic related is progress so far. We are out of ms paint shit levels. Finally getting pleased with it!
A little touch in your spanish, I disagree with the one who said "pasar" is better than "suceder". Since pasar can mean pass by, not happen, while suceder is almost always happen and just a few times and in some specific times "suceeding".
Also it should be "juntas" since they are both girls.
No need to change anything imo but, The More You Know. This was really great and im happy to see more of Estella.
>Not wanting Magi to advance to later rounds and drawing Helga wrestling other girls >Expecting him to not half-ass his brown warrior princess losing to an oc with goku boots.
We got some great galaxy brains on hyw.
Caleb Sanders
>We could have had Helga vs Estella, Fishergirl, Cole >But user couldn't think past the five seconds his boner lasts FUCKING IDIOTS
Aaron Mitchell
Dude didn't even draw his part of the fight, did you really expect him to draw another?
Christian Moore
mystery fans have been fighting over that for years. some prefer a "fair" mystery where the audience could have figured it out, others prefer a surprise, and there's always plenty of people who have no problem with knowing whodunit right away, and the story is just about watching the characters solve it.
Christian Perez
Magi did you moron. He even colored it.
Holy fuck. Did you vote for Coldfusion? I can see how he won now.
drawing superpowers from fiction is almost always cringey but it's worth a try If those are the things you like, do a fun little slice of life story. do the OVA first.
Christopher Ward
relax user, its just a silly tournament, we can have another. You are gonna get a stroke like this.
Carter Wilson
>Magi didn't draw his part of the fight But...he did.
Nolan Jenkins
Yes, I voted for the better artist.
Adrian Sanchez
>t coldfusion
Juan Miller
A few threads ago >Wow, why is team good so much hotter than team evil?
Now >Evil leads 2-0 >Gas, said to be the sexiest, is getting curbstomped by a goat demon >Coldfusion beat Magi Clown thread honk honk.
Easton Gray
it's not really bad grammar but we'd normally say "noticed that something has gone missing" also undust isn't a word, we just say dust. I know it's weird. most of the* valuable things (you can just say 'valuables') come* to think of it in the* dining room holy shit i'm hungry now
chin chad the barbarian is an ongoing series within the series that takes place in the background on random peoples tv
the premise is he thinks something is cool then breaks it in half over his knee.
everything from weapons, to people, to literal explosion clouds, to actual clouds, himself, his wife, yes, even hot women and his wife he says is for fages even though its super strait, thats the joke!
theres even a mr plinket review that plays in the background a few pages from now, one of the characters get finished with chin chad the barbarian movie and want to watch the plinket review
mr plinkett: "chin chad the barbarians knee can break anything in half... even my ex-wife!"*sfx~"budum tisss"*
nevermind how she looks, her personality is top notch.
Jeremiah Robinson
What's her personality like?
William Thomas
True enough. She was kind enough to give Billy, a man dying of hideous worm infestation, the time of day--nevermind the fact that she's anti-baby and GODLESS. She's kind to animals, too.
John Gray
>anti-baby Wat?
Nolan Howard
Okay no, you're listing all of her bad parts in with those but the point is she's cool and fun
Brody Morales
She's a sweetheart that I'm falling in love with, slowly but surely.
>Fan of a character >Have your own character brutalize her ass That must be a weird feeling.
David Perez
>Kind to diseased worm people Good >Kind to animals Good >GODLESS Acceptable >Anti-Baby NO NO NO
Not a perfect waifu, but still a good waifu.
Carson Scott
You have to defeat her in combat then.
Wyatt Lopez
What kind of creep says something like that. Some top notch hentai lines you've got here. like I said...
Michael Hall
The ending I have in mind for my sequence when I claim victory is more upbeat than you think.
But I have to admit, the more canon-friendly ending in my mind requires that I lose.
Luis Long
it's a strange postapocalypse, she's got time to come around But either way, her cavalier attitude is refreshing in that kind of setting, and she's cute as a button
Nathan Brooks
She would be the perfect wholesome daughterfu if it weren't for her breathtaking hotness.
i know that feel. i felt really bad about hurting fishergirl. i dont like being outright malicious. thats why i like to play it up gor laughs.
Logan Foster
>there also I feel like the first 2 panels are funny, but having the gag tv show be 50% of your comic that has nothing to do with the actual rest of the comic is a misstep.
Nathaniel Phillips
I mean they really arent. You can have a hot daughter and simply feel no desire towards her while recognizing her beauty.
Cameron Morris
every parent thinks their kids are beautiful that's just how genes work. that's YOUR genes in there, you want them to continue.
Hudson Martinez
Please answer this. I'm scared of making a comic
Julian Barnes
You are ready now. And when you have completed a bunch of pages you will be more ready. And so on and so on.
The only way to get better is to act. Start your comic now, without apology or reservation, with the knowledge that it will not be as beautiful as it is in your head. It never will be. But you need to start sooner rather than later.
Zachary Miller
I already have a way of her stealing his pants. I need a fun way to lose his top as well or him getting into a situation where Felicia can easily strip it off him
When starting your comic, you should know what it is you are trying to do: make a masterpiece, practice for your masterpiece, or learn to draw. In any case, the beginning will be rough. Your process and progress is a matter of time and intent. Release any and all expectations other than that your work will improve and refine itself incrementally—so long as you are paying attention and working with intent. If you can look at a page and say to yourself: “nothing here offends my eye.” Then you have succeeded on that page.
The odds that people will notice your work, let alone be invested in it, are very low at the outset. That gives you a lot of freedom and peace of mind. Take advantage of the lack of external pressure by applying INTERNAL pressure. If something seems to difficult, try it anyway. Chest if you have to—but always defer to testing yourself.
Starting your comic should be the equivalent of starting to practice. There is nothing to fear.
>Take advantage of the lack of external pressure by applying INTERNAL pressure. Can you elaborate what this is supposed to mean? >Chest if you have to You mean test?
Thanks man, you give solid advice
Ryan Young
>Chest if you have to Whoops, that's meant to be "Cheat if you have to." Odds are that you probably aren't cheating when you think you're cheating, anyway--and even if you are, the act of putting those lines down is still valuable, even if it isn't your own pure mechanical intent.
>External pressure vs Internal pressure When you start out--and for most of the journey--you will be a nobody who no one really cares about. Few people will read your comic, fewer will follow it, and practically none will make any meaningful comment. Your primary audience for the forseeable future is yourself. Therefore, treat yourself as the most demanding AND invested critic you could have. Do NOT settle for minimum effort or sloppiness or poor habits just because not a lot of people are following you. It is then, when you are accountable only to yourself, that you need to be the most disciplined and demanding of yourself. The day will come when your will have an audience to apply that sort of professional pressure. For now, fill that void with your own ruthless, determined work ethic and standard of quality. You'll build the habits you need to make it early. When the audience finds you, you'll be ready.
Thomas Taylor
I don't think parents refer to their kids as "hot". maybe Trump hot has implications of sexual beauty and fuckability.
Jaxson Reed
Oni x Fox updates yet again! Things are getting serious with the Fox crew.
Have you ever redrawn old pages or panels because you didn't like how they looked or some small thing bothered you?
Jeremiah Jackson
I would draw with her...
Jaxson Hughes
Thought's on this premise ?
Twin Genie
Long ago, when the pyramids were still young. An ancient magical energy was unleashed onto the land. Threatening to destroy the balance between the Gods and Pharaohs. The Egyptian Queen locked the magic into a mystical ring and lamp. Now 22,000 years later, the ancient magical energy is unleashed once again. For fate has chosen them to return to stop an unspeakable evil.
>Is it edgy or what? I don't have anything against edgy war depictions, war is my favourite subject matter, but I feel like portraying the ugliness of it is all too many works aspire for, you know? War ugly, war bad. Imho war can be used as a means to convey a greater message. Look at Flags Of Our Fathers for instance: yes you have an absolutely brutal (in a morbidly good way) depiction of war but it's not done for the sole sake of "war horror". In FOOF you see how these men deal with being basically used as propaganda tools, propaganda in general and how much war as perceived in civilian life contrasts with reality, how hard it is for vets to reinsert back into their previous life and so forth. At the end of the day though you can also make a story that relies on war horror alone, without it necessarily conveying a greater message. Neither is better than the other, also because in trying too hard to convey a "greater message" you might run the risk of coming off as pretentious, so without any real substance to it, you dig? This can be avoided if you genuinely believe that your story HAS to have "more to it", and aren't just doing it because it's the more "deep and intellectual (TM)" shit to do. Use your best judgement soldier.
Also I'm making a (sort of) war comic myself. Yay. Script's done, thumbnailing the first scene but I really need to pick up the fucking pace, this shit will be done in the next decade at this rate
That says absolutely nothing. Im very against vague descriptions like that.
But let me tell you, the synopsis you made once about a pirate girl creating a time-loop everyone is concious of while two genies try to stop her, now THAT sounds interesting.
eh, guess I'll go ahead with that one instead. Sounds more fun.
Gabriel Murphy
That brings up a good point actually, when does valuing obedience go a bit far All of these interactions are great. And the little notes. And the expressions. I love it so much. You are GETTING some fanart.
Thanks! Glad you think so! I'm excited to expand more on it!
Henry Cooper
You know where they get their leaves trimmed? the arbor shop
John Davis
they´re power-walking hahaha
Brayden Rodriguez
I arbor that statement
Nathaniel Lewis
>Moody disposition or tragic backstory All three main characters--Spectro, Stardust, and the Ray, and all three in their own way.
Speaking of The Power of Stardust, issue one is finally compiled with letters and ads--some of which you'll recognize! We got contributions from hyw regulars like Oni X Fox, Smacky Jackson, and Admiral Pizza (his were probably my favorite).
Caught up recently. There is a lot of lore im clearly unaware of since I never read a Stardust comic in my entire life, nor superhero comics in general. But the art was cool and some of the concepts really interesting so ill keep reading.
Caleb Nguyen
god dammit the puns you have to labor over are the most deciduous
Isaiah Sanchez
Okay /hyw/ I need your help. These little guys are going to show up on my next page, and i honestly cant tell which design i like better. Do you guys prefer the humanoid one, or the more orb shaped one?
Hey Otto, i wanted to ask you if it would be okay if i put my Cole vs Fishergirl comic on Tapas? I wanted to make sure it was okay first since it used your character. I would give you proper credit and link back to your stuff in the description.
heeeyy, this is the forest where i was raised by a pack of wolves. When i was found, they tried to give me therapy, but the damage was pun.
Lincoln Williams
the right design is better, but I can understand wanting to maintain the round shape. I suggest leave the skull flush with the surface like the one on the left, but rotate it down further (But keep it that smaller size like the one on the right, so it doesn't just run off the edge) and by all means keep the claw fingers from the left one, but give them on proper hands like the right one.
Jacob Powell
So a mix of both. I could see that. I wanted these little guys to look unique, but expressive as well. So trying to find the right balance of utility and character is a pain. The idea is that they are like minions from Despicable Me, if they carried cutlasses and flintlocks, and had a tendency to zerg rush.
Bentley Edwards
you'll definitely appreciate the having-real-hands thing when it comes to wielding those weapons. You can also thicken the 'spine' of the right one a bit. not as thick as the left one I'd say, leave more room inside for things to fold up
Lucas Evans
Based fatso
Daniel Jenkins
It's a little brief. How was the magical energy threatening the balance between the gods and the pharaohs exactly? Were the gods pissed it was putting the human pharaohs on their level?
Thank you Admiral! Percy and the Fishermen are Pizza Power Fans!
Aw, thanks! It feels good knowing I can create a character people can feel for.
God, if Estella was in Dead by Daylight I'd probably main her. Cool design, potential for cool alts, cool weapon, and the thorns give her all kinds of potential powers--blocking gens, making hooks, blocking windows, fun stuff.
Noah Edwards
OK but what's the minimum price for the deluxe package with original nudes? I don't want some second hand crap you already sent Mitch either
Henry Campbell
Absolutely!
Brandon Lewis
Also, I think I prefer the human design with its flat head. It looks really cool.
Justin Lopez
If I get to draw a battle with Estella I wanted to make her use one of her thorns to swing the axe around for a while. I think its cool.
But im really not sure if the tournament ends now or what.
The round one fits better the name. But I like the idea of the skull separating from the body to be honest. So the other.
Luke Russell
I don't have any specifics of that premise, I just didn't know how to fit the time-loop into the story
Juan Perry
My friend keeps asking if I'd be interested in Dead by Deadlight. I haven't played vidya in so long, but this hiatus gives me an excuse.
Camden Peterson
I think it'd be cool. Percy already has two--a guy named Ghost Pirate who is, like Percy, part of a legacy--but his is high seas supervillainy. He commands an entire armada of ghosts through the sword of Calico Jack--one of which is his own father, the previous Ghost Pirate. As much as he hates his father for leaving him and his mother to play pirate out at sea, he's repeating the exact same things he did. His issues with his family--wanting to honor their legacy while having grievances--mirrors Percy's own issues.
Ghost Pirate has a crush on Percy and tries to stage crimes to get her attention. He has an entire monolog ready in case he ever takes her prisoner.
The other is Sand Queen, one of the mentally unwell supervillians Percy's mother serves as a psychiatrist for. Once a beautiful gymnast and a dancer, an accident transformed her into a hideous monster of sand and mud. Despairing that she'll ever look human let alone beautiful, Sand Queen takes her frustrations out on the world targeting those she feels don't deserve happiness. She typically uses her powers to create fortresses to protect herself and knights to fight for her, which is how she got her name Sand Queen.
Percy is her parole officer, and has no idea what to do with Sand Queen. Her mother dotes on Sand Queen and gets mad at Percy whenever she has to arrest her for being too rough. Sometimes Percy feels her mother treats Sand Queen more like a daughter than herself.
Her story has a happy ending though. Percy teachers her Thule blinking which lets her body flow freely in a way that reminds her of dancing.
I've heard people on tapas forums complain about being canned for sex, but never violent content.
If they start cracking down, I'm probably screwed. If you though what happened to American Crusader's arms were graphic wait until you see the surreal shit Stardust is going to pull on German soldiers.
When someone makes a mistake that big its either laugh or cry, and I choose to save my tears for the real tragedies.
It's mainly for fujos to the point it has Boy's Love as a genre tag, but it is my main source of views so I can't hate it. It's not a graveyard like smackjeeves--I have 142 subs on tapas. On smackjeeves I have 5.
Why, just the best public domain superhero webcomic on the web!
I wouldnt mind if Cole became a recurring rogue. If Otto would like to use her more, he has permission.
I honestly never expected Cole to be so well liked. I expected her to be a throw away and never be heard form again. Now I have her planned for a couple more arcs, but her presence is sparse, and she wont be showing up again for a long time. (I do have a crazy plan to pit the Turbulancer against the Justisaurus which will be cool)
So if Otto wants to get some use out her, by all means.
Camden Sanchez
Time travel is tricky tricky tricky to work into a story, mostly because writers try to overthink and overexplain it. Try to keep it as simple as possible.
The basics >Prepare for salty opponents. Sportsmanship is dead and you will be reported for kicking their asses. Reporting doesn't do shit though.
>The game starts killer sided but quickly becomes survivor sided at higher ranks. The best survivor team will BTFO the best killer.
>Perks are incredibly important and come in a hierarchy. There are perks that are absolutely useless and perks that can make you better no matter what killer you use.
>Steve, Nancy, and the Demogorgon from Stranger Things comes out this month.
Thanks for the feedback! I'll correct it when I got to put in the next part.
Well don't keep me hanging!
And I'm glad you liked it!
Even if Fishergirl wins, I think I might have Nyamo draw Percy being naked in a tube as the control center for the repurposed Turbulancer--for sexy, but also because I have a soft spot for telekinetic mechs like Dangaioh, Iczer, Zeorhymer, even the Dora Talos from Zyuranger. Though she might wear a sentai outfit, I think that could be cool.
William Diaz
Another quick question, in the event of my loss, which name do you like better for Percy's new superweapon. >The Merbulancer or >The Kingfisher
Tyler Barnes
Cool! I'm not sure how exactly to use her post-confrontation, but if I think of something I promise to do Cole's character justice! Percy is a parole officer for superhumans, maybe she has to keep tabs on Cole and the Sky High Sentai after they screwed up a con and got prosecuted for it?
Hudson Sullivan
Hmmm...Queenfisher?
Jason Bell
Done. Already have some snappy dialogue ready.
Lucas Hernandez
this is giving me the warm feelings
Kayden Cook
>overthink and overexplain it It's just Groundhog Day. I don't think I can make it any more complicated other than adding a day counter
Gabriel Rivera
How so?
Brandon Sanchez
people are sharing! collaborating!
Robert Nguyen
Is this the power of girlfights? to bring people together?
Congrats Otto and Nyamo! I had a ton of fun, and i loved the art that came from it. Ill have my defeat comic ready by the end of the week. Thankfully i already had a script.
I admit i kinda wanted to fight Azu. I had a joke ready about airline food. Also they were going to have a bat fight on the plane with Azu using one of those spiky demon clubs and Cole using a baseball bat called 'the mile high club" youtube.com/watch?v=AnXh3XR9zyM
David Peterson
Would you consider these robot designs family friendly? My stories aren't necessarily aimed at children but I was still curious.
Sorry, ironically I spent that time reading your comic so... its something? Ill let you know once I read it.
Damn Team Good and their... goodness. We lost our surprisingly not-as-sinful leader.
I had an idea about Azu jumping as high as Cole plane during the battle and flipping it. Another time will be. Im actually not sure she can jump THAT high but hey, its cool.
This is honestly interesting. I thought Bonnie was a girl from a future time. Like, from the actual pirate era or even from our age.
John Wood
Times like this, ask yourself what the author of Where the Wild Things Are would say
Easton Gutierrez
Big robo-boobs so it wouldnt air on tv. But it works for me.
Liam Ross
what TV are you watching?
Jacob Ortiz
Yes, fat tits and THICC hips are fun for the whole family.
Kevin Moore
That kid looks either ultra stoned or she just saw some intense SS robo action.
Andrew Lopez
literally how additions to the family are made.
Jayden Phillips
Well yeah, she's got a wallet with no pocket to put it in, she's got one of those cats from those adorable cat drawings you see sometimes, her idea of fun apparently includes paddleball, and she's dressed like Radical Edward. You can't tell me this girl doesn't get into the Smile Dip on occasion.
