Connie isn't a super important character to the story (outside of certain moments like Diamond Days) but she's important to Steven as a character. They're the real OTP.

All this Steven/Spinel stuff reminds me of everyone that was hoping for Steven/Peridot endgame in Season 2 only for Peridot to get tossed in a barn and almost never shown again.

Spinel is a more fun and compelling character, but I don't see any chemistry between her and Steven. I want her to be happy, but not with Steven. Either the Diamonds need to have actually changed and matured a lot so they won't abandon Spinel too once they're tired of playing with her, or Spinel needs to meet some new being in the cosmos who will treat her well and love her.

I think Spinel before she was abandoned and Steven when the series started would get along as playmates. They've both changed a lot since then, but in different ways. Steven has had a lot of good and bad experiences, while Spinel only had one big bad one. I think Steven would be nice to her if he stayed like he is to everyone, but would be pretty distant just politely friendly, which is one reason Spinel left with the Diamonds.

Steven and Peridot were adorable. I know it would never happen.

I got some feelings about the two of them together during "Found" and "Change," but Spinel seriously needs time to heal.

I think what bothers me about Connie is that she feels like everything about her is to make her "perfect" for Steven, so in a contrary way you want it less. I mean, even her surname means "Master of the Universe." How fucking contrived is that?

She was smart again for her few lines in the movie at least.

I liked her until she stopped being such a dork in the later seasons. Now she is just the boring human that tags along on gem adventures.

Peridot will always be best gem in this show, no amount of irl bullshit making her act different will change that.

This desu, Connie was way more likable when she was just a nerdy girl who was friends with steven, instead of the dumb boring "badass" Connie we have now.

Connie worked when she was a human perspective/straight man for Steven. Most of the show was about how (obviously) poorly Steven fit in with the other Crystal Gems, but then Connie helped show how Steven wasn't exactly human either. But she grounded him as a young boy, hanging out, having sleepovers, childhood crushes.

When she abandoned normalcy and became obsessed with fighting and Gemshit - essentially living vicariously through Steven - she lost all appeal because we already have Steven to do that. She's like a vestigial tail, when she's there she adds nothing and removal is considered an improvement.

And then we have Connie, a 12 year old girl, blocking attacks from Topaz and not being smashed into the ground, despite the fact that topaz's are supposed to be stronger than Quartz. She makes no sense as a fighter.

Yea, season 1 and 2 were the only times the crew cared enough about Peridot to give her quality writing. All the shit that happened with her afterwards (from Zuke and the barn, all that shit) is because no one on the crew cared enough about her to keep writing her so good. We spent all that time on her redemption and she didn't even become part of the main group for fucks sake.

Her name means Story Lord of the Universe. She's the one who tells the tale of Steven and her face fits together with Steven's like a jigsaw. They're literally made to be together.

She was never meant to be part of the main group. It's Steven, Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl. You should've gotten that when she was never in the intro.
