Honestly part of me likes and doesn't like that Mao got over his daddy issues so quickly. It seems like the type of thing it would take a whole season to do while developing Shin and Mao Mao's relationship, but at the same time it would bog down a lot of the jokes and plots. The show is an episodic comedy first, and that's what's important.

Not to mention there's a real chance this show won't get a second season. Giving Shin Mao a special episode like this at least puts closure on the matter if we don't get anything else. I think the last time I laughed more at a show as when Chowder was still airing. It has a nice 2000's feel to it with the art style and jokes, especially since it uses more dark morbid humor akin to Billy and Mandy. That style of comedy as well as an emphasis on action gives the show a bite to it that most other shows this decade are lacking.
I'd recommend Not Impressed, Out Foxed, Bao Bao's Revenge, and Popularity Conquest as the top episodes of the show. A couple of them work better if you've gotten to know the characters more before hand, especially Not Impressed, but that's about an hours worth of content to give you a feel of the show. If you don't like after those ones, I wouldn't recommend the others.

1. CN fucked up the order of episodes which dampens some of the impact of Shin Mao's appearance. Small should've come after the Weapon of Choice and been the last episode of the batch
2. CN further fucked up the flow by scheduling it so poorly. If CN didn't previously dump 8 episodes, leaving a month hiatus after a non-cliffhanger, we wouldn't have time to ruminate about our expectations of the next episodes so much and set our expectations too high

I can't tell if airing Small before WoC implies the network has any idea what's going on in the show or not.
On one hand it implies they think the viewers want Shin Mao right now, so they know the contents of the show, but they mustve known that WoC after Small doesnt make a lot of sense, since WoC does shit like hide Shin Maos face and establish Mao's sword as a light weapon without any questioning.

I'm not convinced the episodes are out of order. Mao Mao Mao didn't invent the move at the time of Weapon of Choice, and the obscured family could just have been so the focus was were intended instead of the viewer getting lost elsewhere.

Mao Mao's sisters are probably taller than him and that is the only actual reason why his father favors them over him. Kind of, it's a mix of really not having the budget to start wit this and Warner really not considering one of their lesser viewed whatever cable channels being worth their time.

When even by their own point of view they can just as easily slap a Scooby Doo or Bugs bunny n a t-shirt and make a guaranteed sale. They do not have nearly as much faith in a CN original show being even moderately as successful in sales.

If they did I guarantee we would be seeing a lot more Gumball and Teen Titans stuff around.

In the greater scheme of things for Warner it is not that surprising of a call. They have Batman, Superman, Looney Tunes, Classic Hanna Barbera, and Tom & Jerry to merch out. They have a lot of other options with much large fanbases to cater to without bothering with kids shows on a cable channel ( Which is just as looked down upon by media companies today as they were in the 80s)

If you notice Disney almost never produces any merch for their tv shows either. Movies have significantly wider audiences, more acclaim, more respect, and attract more money.
