Good general plot, character chemistry.
Bad pacing.
Awful dialogue. Even by kids' book standards it's way too on the nose and everyone reads like the author doing bad impressions instead of characters. It's solid but needs work, massively better than the core comic.

Also, the tentacles of an octopus are as much facial features as they are the arms and legs.

Given that this is a shapeshifter, I hope his final form is some freaky Davey Jones looking mofo reminiscent of the actual creature, and we're not just stuck with Aqua The Echidna.

But this is Sonic, so disappointment is mandatory.

That's the thing. I do NOT care about them. Sonic characters in general are difficult to care about because there's no tension, weight, etc. Melodrama for sure, but that shit gets annoying.

The biggest failing of IDW series is that they always spiral out into spin off and side books and side specials that someone tie back into the regular main comic series of something. This is why I've largely lost interest in IDW TMNT (well there are other reasons). I just don't care about the multitude of side specials and when to read them especially when they focus on characters who aren't interesting and even if they're enjoyable characters WHY do they deserve their own special side stories? This is a big problem with IDW's method of doing comic stories. I hope it comes back to bite them in thass.

That's not why people are saying it's better. They're saying it's better because there's an actual plot, and it progresses each issue, and character dynamics are being taken into consideration, and problems aren't solved exclusively by beating things up.

If this was published under Archie it'd be considered a fairly lackluster Sonic Universe arc, comparable to the first Knuckles arc or the Sally/Nicole arc. Standards for IDW Sonic are just so low that this is "good."

i dont know how to feel about this comic. its far from bad, but far from good. feels very very plain or 'just there'. maybe context would help, dunno. understood what was going on well enough without needing major backstory recaps or anything, so thats not a bad thing at least. i guess if i had to say anything, it feels like its playing it very safe maybe. far from as bad or as good as ive heard these comics to be too, though with how long they seem to have been going on that might not mean much at all.

Whisper is good though, i could see liking the character alot, though her dynamic with Tangle feels way too cliche and Tangle tends to be the type of character i cant stand, so thats kinda disappointing. kinda getting megaman vibes from the rifle though, not that thats exactly a bad thing.
