I just finished watching Amphibia guys.
I really don't understand why Yea Forums seems to like it so much. I've been seeing it praised a lot, while the show seemed really mediocre. Like, it isn't bad, but there is so little substance to it. It sets up some supposed overarching adventure, but there are only about 4 episodes in the entirety of the season that actually contribute to it. Steven Universe has less filler, for gods sake. I would much rather that the show just committed to being 100% wacky frog adventures, without feeling the need to introduce any grand story. The characters are pretty nice, but I don't really love any of them. They are just fine.

I like the show and I knew the moment it introduced lore and plot, it was going to fuck it up. There isn't even any set-up for season 2.

The show's good but a bit of the fandom seem a little too into the teenage girl characters, as if that's supposed to be the main draw of the show

couldn't agree with you more user.
it´s pretty good for a kids show.
animations and art is great (part of me is salty its not more ¨driven¨ in plot department cause of this).
backgrounds are amazing and there are genuinely fun things about it.

A lot of the praise stems from the fact that people didn't anticipate the show being any good at all.
Characters are charming and the entire main cast is given moments to shine.
Unlike a lot of other kids shows, the romance is all cute and hardly shoe-horned or obnoxious.
Episodes are tightly written, animation is fairly good and the world is colorful.
It's also got cute characters and cute girls so inevitably people can ship shit.
I like it because every episode delivers on what I started watching it for: adventures in this ampibia-world with strange creatures. Every single episode has some sort of conflict that rises to an adventure and, along the line, involves a new part of the world/creature that lives there. It's a cute little adventure with characters that I've grown to like. No one in the show is insisted upon, characters tend to honestly realize when they've fucked up, etc.

I want sasha to step on me

See I read stuff like this and think, "what if we become as bad as TLH fags"?

I've been avoiding the threads as it just seems to devolve into shitposting. You guys are on par with Hilda.

I feel you. I can't get into it but I see the appeal. It's cute and charming and copys the formula of "slice-o-life turn plot driven" that works at times. I found it boring but I'm bias. I already have my autism hook. Mediocre if it doesn't hook you but great if it does is the best way to describe it. Plus fandoms are next to worthless when it comes to judging a show.

As long as Anne doesn't commit genocide at the end it'll be more satisfying than the last show I got into.

Don't understand how people are calling it mediocre. The episodes are all really well written.

>lorefags
ALWAYS A FUCKING MISTAKE

Is just an isekai about a frog city + three romance kingdom

Show hardly is muh deepest lore. There's little things here and there but most of it just speaks to a consistent writing crew.

Idk I can feel the writers trying to set up questions the same way that Gravity Falls did (like Anne doing frog shenanigans is cool but I need to know what that box is all about)

It has cute female characters and Anne isn't as bad as Mabel Pines

Thank god no one in the show is nearly as insufferable as Mabel

Sprig is one of the most visually appealing and delightful characters in recent memory, and the jokes are okay

Why the fuck did you spoiler your fucking review? There were literally no spoilers throughout it.And saying Steven Universe has less filler is like calling your mother a virgin.Practically half of SU was filler, and even then half of the other half was borderline filler that only shoved the show along cuz somebody inside probably knew that you can't just keep vomiting out townie skits after a fucking 6 month hiatus.
Tell me, OP. user to user. No judgement. Im lying Are you autistic?

Why am I meant to believe Anne is Thai, when she 100% looks like an American mulatto with an afro puff?

>"DUDE."
>"DUDE."
>"DUDE."
No it isn't written well at all.

Her last name is Boonchuy and her mom makes weird ethnic snacks. But yeah I feel you, until that Thai restaurant ep I thought she was some breed of negress because of the dark skin and attitude

It's mediocre, with ugly artstyle, unfunny jokes and lack of waifus. Owl House will wipe the floor with it.

It's for the lesbian subtext. Nothing more, possibly quite a bit less.

I need to hear the asian one speak first before I can condemn Amphibia for not having quality girls

That's just not what the show is user. It is using an episodic format to build the world and develop the characters. And advancing the plot is taking a backseat to that, at least for now. It's not a bad thing it's just different.

I usually have yuri goggles with these shows but I don't like the yuri ships this time. They seem forced and lame. Anne and Sasha were only on screen together for one episode and they spent most of it fighting. My goggles aren't tinted enough for this shit.

A lot of Thai people have brown skin, you dummies.

Dude, people actually talk like that.

I like how character grew and it stayed.
Hop pop is best

I just finished watching it an hour ago too, A lot of the plot points in it felt like they came out of nowhere as if the writers were thinking "Okay so how are we gonna give the plantar family some personal stakes in this? How about we make a stupid subplot about how hes a political figure to a rebellion But other than that the season finale was pretty good. I hope the wait for season 2 isn't too long.

Oh God this is how is starts , lorefags shitting on a perfect good show.

whats the story with those shorts we were getting?

You should've been here when we watched and discussed the show daily. It was quite an event. The series itself is at least alright and nobody claimed it was a superior cartoon apart from a few of those tribal shitposters. Anons like it for frog shenanigans, comfy family moments, likable characters and non-tumorous bits of romance. I liked how there seems to be more to those otherwise generic-looking bully friends of Anne. However, some would indeed like it more if it didn't involve any of that epic-magic-destiny-world-saving stuff that's coming, apparently.
And what's with the assumption that something must be great just because it's popular. It just happens to hit the spot for a number of viewers and doesn't mean everyone will love it.

Are Western cartoons having a problem with lore right now? The best one so far is arguably Gravity Falls, and cartoons are trying too hard to be like it without studying build ups, pay-offs, and pacing.

Christ I can't believe how some people are this fucking impatient. The first season is to set up the world, the characters, and the plot. Not every fucking show has to fully focus on nothing but the fucking plot. Everyone gets mad when things move forward because of plot and nothing else. This way, characters can cause the plot to move forward and not just lazy "haha that happened because plot"

Steven Universe gets hit by this flak the most because the fucking townies add NOTHING to anything. Here, the townies add to the growth of the main characters.

Also you want wacky frog adventures with no grand story but complain about filler? Are you actually stupid?

Reminder that Matt basically confirmed SashAnne as endgame.
It’s over. No show can escapo the lesbo

I think it had a reasonably nice balance. They introduced the world at reasonable pace without it eating up the character relatinship and comedy. There's no inorganic mood swings or anything.

It's not perfect, but that's the price of being a cartoon. As far as the current crop goes, so far it seems to be the best written and structured.

Five episodes in and so far she's not was bad as mable, just really ADD addled

Right? Some series, in turn, go out their way to explain everything asap, dumping tons of exposition on the setting and the protag on the very first episode before actually getting on with the story. Characters should be developed organically by showing and not just telling.

The animation is trash. Are people standards really that low for western shows nowadays?

This, the art style of this show is new low, Anne got the laziest design I ever saw on a main character in years. Absolutely nothing about this show is good let alone great like some faggots try to push.

It's got excellent characters and their interactions are enjoyable. The humour also gets better and better as it goes along. In general, it's just enjoyable to watch these characters grow closer.

>It's got excellent characters
How so? They are bland and non memorable, they all act in a stupid random way even more than the show tone, Anne sounds like a woman in her 40s but got the personality of a kid 5 years younger than she actually is because those hacks can't write teenager characters

>Owl House will wipe the floor with it.
The show has aweful ratings and no one cares about it. Every show wipes the floor with it. It will be canceled after season 2
